Monday's Weekend Recap...

Philippians 4:13. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

.

I have prayed for strength over these past few days and God is always good.  Friday was Helen's moving day.  I didn't go over because they told me they would distract her, move everything and get her settled. They are the experts and have done it many times so I prayed for them all and set about finding a place to take the rest of Joe's clothes.  It was a blessing to have that extra day before I start work (today) to finish some things.

Since the Catholic thrift store didn't want the clothing, a friend told me that the Baptist Children's Home will take anything and everything so I called them.  They are less than three miles away.  The woman I spoke with was so nice, told me where to bring the things and that they were there until 4:30.  I decided I needed to get this done with my job starting, so I loaded up the car and took the rest of his things as well as two bags of household things that I had been saving to donate.

I had help unloading and they were happy to have anything. Praise God.  I got that done. Some may think I did it too fast but I just felt something that was telling me to get it done so I followed my gut and did it.  I also did some purging in my closet and drawers and got rid of some sheets and towels that were just taking up space. It feels good to have it done. I don't miss Joe any less or more because his clothes are gone. He still lives in my heart.

When I got that done, I went over to Brookdale to gather things that didn't fit in Helen's new room. (I didn't see her.)  The new room is smaller and there is only one closet. (When we moved her back in March, she didn't want to leave any of her clothes behind. Her new room had two big closets so everything fit then.)  They had all the big pieces moved but her clothing and some smaller things were still there.  I sorted through her clothing, leaving slacks, skirts, and tops that I knew she liked and wore and loaded up all of her suits and dresses (fancy "church" clothes) and her shoe rack to take back to her house (to deal with later). She doesn't have a refrigerator in the new room so I cleaned out her fridge and freezer (candy & ice cream) and brought it home with me.

I was able to check her house while I was there unloading and all seemed okay.  No water running and no lights left on, etc.  I think between the two clean-outs and deliveries I had over 11,000 steps in on Friday. My body felt it and I was happy to sit my backside down for the rest of the evening.

Saturday was a quiet day. I did some cleaning, got a load of laundry done, and changed the sheets on the bed. That's about it. If you follow me on Facebook, you saw that I watched the movie "My Cousin Vinney" for about the 100th time. It always makes me laugh and I know most of the dialog by heart!

Church was good yesterday and I just relaxed the rest of the day.  Today I have to drop Lucy off at the Vet before work and will pick her up after work.  Weird that I need to start thinking of things happening before and after work again.  I already changed four appointments later this month and in June. Back in the saddle again. Yehaw!

Peace & hugs!  Jesus loves us!!

  2. As followers of the Lord, we do things as we feel led, as we feel we can handle them with His enablement. The Lord has given you His strength in a time when some would just pull into themselves and do nothing. You are an illustration to the rest of us of God's help and grace.

I am praying your first day at your new job goes well, is a good fit for both you and your employer and that you enjoy it.

  6. You have a job!? That's wonderful! I must have missed that post. I pray it's something fulfilling. That you'll love it as much as your previous one.
Personally, having lost many loved ones, I think it's wise to cut bait and move on. The grief doesn't change with or without stuff hanging around. I don't like clutter and sometimes having everything neat and tidy helps me heal. I totally get that. You're very wise.
Wishing you health, happiness and joy as you start this new adventure.
    Love & Prayers xx

  7. Back in the saddle. That is about right. I hope the job is a good thing and keeps you just busy enough. Everything you said about cleaning up and getting rid of stuff was spot on. A prayer for you this morning.

  8. I can't understand why someone would dare presume (this) is 'too soon.' Absolutely, Joe will always live in your heart. 11,000 steps ... WOW! Are you wearing a FitBit, by chance?
Thinking of you this morning, preparing for the new job in what, just a few minutes! Hugs!

  10. Sounds like you had a very productive weekend. Everyone has to do what works for them, but I think dealing with the clothes sooner rather than later is somehow less painful. Hope you love your new job!

  13. I think everyone deals with going through things after a death in different ways. As you said, Joe lives in your heart so good for you for getting all that done.
On top of that you have been so busy with Helen. You've been so busy and it has to feel good to have her all settles.
And the job! I hope your first day went well!

I'm glad, too, that Helen is getting settled into her new place. I think she will be happier there and that will give you peace of mind.
