Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 397

From this Side of the Pond
1. Here we are entering the last month of the year 2020. 2020!! Every year The Oxford English Dictionary publishing team chooses a word that captures the general mood of the year we're leaving behind, or the one word that will leave a lasting impact on the world at large. This year they needed sixteen words in order to cover the whole enchilada.

While two of the other major dictionaries selected pandemic as their word of the year, Oxford came up with a long list including-bushfire, impeachment, acquittal, coronavirus, COVID-19, lockdown, social distancing, reopening, Black Lives Matter, Cancel Culture, BIPOC, mail-in, Belarusian, moonshot, net-zero (read more about each word here)

Of the words listed which ONE would you say should be in the number 1 spot? Which word/phrase on this list would you be happy to never hear again?  I actually still get a little angry at Black Lives Matter because I believe ALL lives matter, including all people of any color, creed, religion, gender, short, tall, skinny, fat, rich or poor...  They are all precious in HIS sight!!  So let's get rid of that phrase. Probably, of that list, social distancing pretty much says it all for the year 2020. I am so glad we are putting it behind us, even though we are moving into 2021 without much change.

2. What one word from your own list of words describing this year sums up/best reflects your 2020? Tell us why.  Lazy.  I have become a lazy TV slug.  We are retired and have not been affected too much by financial troubles or with shortages at the beginning of this mess but we have stayed home (until things loosened a bit) and have become habitual marathon-TV watching slugs.

3. Do you like peppermint? Peppermint mocha, a candy cane, peppermint bark, peppermint tea, York Peppermint Pattie, peppermint ice cream...of the peppermint treats listed, which one is your favorite? Will you bake anything featuring peppermint this holiday season?  I am not a big peppermint lover.  I can eat a Peppermint Pattie and I do like Bryers Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. No candy canes or mint candies in my stocking, please.

4. Besides Christmas, what do you associate the color red with?  My sister, Patti, has red hair and so did my Granny Kelly, so redheads.  But I own a lot of red tops and love red.  How about the color green?  I have green eyes and will most likely say my favorite color is green, even though I wear red more often.

5. Is your tree up?  Yes.  Real or artificial?  Artificial.  Joe is allergic to real pine trees.  Is your house decorated?  Yes, as much as it will be.  We downsize a little more each year.  Is your shopping done?  No.  Started?  Yes.  Wrapped?  No.  On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being Scrooge-like and 10 being Buddy the Elf, how's your Christmas spirit?  I would say it falls somewhere between 7 and 8.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  My consistent readers (bless you!) know that Joe and I love visiting Mazzaro's Italian Market, over in St. Petersburg.  It is especially fun introducing folks to Mazzaro's for the first time.  We always make the first-timers pose for us with the cut-outs.  Our former Assistant Pastor and his wife did just that yesterday.  We had so much fun spending the morning and early afternoon with them.  They have six kids, the oldest is 16 and stairsteps down from there. They were so happy to spend a day with adults! We laughed about that!

It was Brian's idea to switch places. I told him that he looked like every Italian grandma,
with a mustache and beard!! LOL

We had a good lunch with them! Such a cute couple!!

Thanks for your visit!!

Peace & hugs!  Jesus loves you so much!

  1. OH, I love that you are taking this sweet couple under your wing...I've heard you mention them a few times, and I know they were searching for a place to minister (are they still?). Praying God will lead them to His place of choice for them. But it is so wonderful of you to have fellowship with them...that is so very needful. We've been in that same position before, and too often people forget about their former pastor/asst.pastor once they are gone from the church...and it is so wonderful to be shown some true Christian love and fellowship by people of faith. Thank you for doing that. That is truly a blessing for them as well as for you.

  2. I did all my Christmas shopping about 2 months ago and now all I have to do is wrap. We dont buy for the adults - just the kiddos. I love mint anything! I am sick and tired of the BLM too. God made us all and we need to learn to get along as He would want us to. Browns/golds/orange are my favorite colors. I know you enjoyed being with your ex-Pastor and his wife. Hope you have a good Wed.

  3. Comcast had a freebie marathon from several pay subscriptions... lots of binging. Britannica was something else but addictive.

  4. I have watched more TV than ever in my life! I have tried to keep exercising, but with gyms closed, exercise class closed, the increase of cases on the rise, and the colder weather...not much exercising now.
Social Distancing....nope, don't want to hear it.

  5. A cute couple, indeed, Terri! Like you, I'm not a big fan of peppermint - just give me the chocolate, please. :) And I believe, with my whole heart, that all lives matter to God. Sadly, BLM is a Marxist group masquerading as a civil rights movement. People need to wake up!
    Blessings!

  8. Too funny about your friends switching places! And you're so photogenic!

I'm right there with you on the BLM. In fact, just reading these terms (Question #1) turned me off. Not buying my head in the sand. Well, maybe a little. I'm just OVER it all.

  10. I didn't see your link today but hopped over from my blog reader. I am sure most of us have consumed more mindless tv this year than most years. It is at least a distraction from all the anger and turmoil in the world today. Some day we'll re-develop better habits. We just watched The Queen's Gambit on Netflix and enjoyed that.
