Saturday 9 Two Divided By Love...

Two Divided by Love

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Two Divided by Love (1971)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? You can hear it here.

1) Sam's teacher told her she'd use math every day. What's the last math problem you solved? (Did you add to/subtract from the balance of your checkbook ... use division to figure out how much you'd save with 25% off that sweater ...)  Since I am an accountant by profession (Joe is a CPA) I like to remind people that arithmetic and math are two entirely different things.  Accounting (balancing a checkbook, for instance) is arithmetic. Adding and subtracting and simple equations.  The last time I used MATH was in college! LOL  Algebra, calculus... who still uses that?

2) The lyrics tell us that if you take away the rain from a flower, the flower just won't grow. Do you have any indoor houseplants?  No.  I have a brown thumb and three cats. Could they use a drink of water this morning?  N/A

3) This week's artists, The Grass Roots, are introduced in this video by country music superstar Kenny Rogers. Who is your favorite country music singer?  Oh gosh, I was really "into" country music in the 80s and I love a lot of the old-timers:  Willie, Hank Jr., Waylon, Merle, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Alabama, Ricky Scaggs, Ronnie Milsap, Alan Jackson...

4) The two unmarried members of the group -- guitarist Warren Entner and drummer Ricky Coonce -- competed for a lady's affection on a 1968 episode of The Dating Game. Neither of them won! She chose Bachelor #1. Anyway, have you ever appeared on a game show?  No. Do you know anyone who has?  No.

5) The Grass Roots were originally called The 13th Floor. They chose this cheeky name because many high rises do not have a 13th floor since 13 is considered an unlucky number, and they were thumbing their noses at superstition. Are you superstitious?  No, I am not.  Thirteen has never caused me any trouble.

6) At the time of his death in 2011, group leader Rob Grill was still playing music, touring with a reconfigured Grass Roots. His widow Nancy referred to him as "one lucky son of a gun" because he'd been able to support himself as a musician, doing what he loved for 45 years. In what ways do you consider yourself fortunate?  Oh my goodness, God has been so good to me!  I have Joe, I have a wonderful loving family, dear friends, I have a roof over my head and food in the pantry.  Yes, indeed, I am fortunate. We don't have much money for extras but we have all we need and are so much more fortunate than many.

7) In 1971, the year this song was released, Walt Disney World opened in Florida. The Epcot Center was added in 1982. Have you ever visited this, or any, Disney theme park?  We live 45 minutes from Disney and had season passes for many years when the grandkids were small and when we had visitors all the time with little ones.  So yes, we have been to Disney World, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios.  We have not been to the Animal Kingdom though. It opened after we gave up our Florida Resident Passes.  It is very expensive to go today.  We would have to eat oatmeal all month if we were to buy tickets now! LOL

8) Fresh chicken was just 43¢/lb. in 1971. Do you prefer the breast or drumstick?  Drumstick. I prefer dark meat when given the choice.  The breast is good if it is moist!

9) Random question: Do you work well under pressure?  I do work well under pressure but don't bug me while I'm working! I get focused and don't need outside interruptions.  I might not be nice.  Just keeping it real and giving a warning. LOL

Thanks for your visit!!

Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

  1. 13 was lucky for me as my oldest daughter was born on that day. I love the old country music - not todays rock and roll country. I have been to Disney World when my children were little but none of the others and am too old to fight it now. I am very blessed to have a home, family, good friends and my church. It would be easy to be 'down' at this time of my iife, but my hope is in God.

  2. Eating oatmeal for a month to go to Disney ..... yes, we feel the same way. However, we do go to Disney Springs (formerly Disney Marketplace and Downtown Disney) several times a year to celebrate birthdays and such.

As a matter of fact, we'll be doing that today! Somebody is celebrating her 5th birthday and has an appointment for a Princess Makeover!

Terri, being so close to Disney has been there, but for those who don't know, Disney Springs is not inside the parks. It's a beautiful area on the outside of the parks with many restaurants, shops with Disney merchandise, and pleasant places to walk and sit for people-watching. It's free to walk about and even the parking in the multi-level garages is free.

    1. We do enjoy Disney Springs, and especially The House of Blues. If you haven't been to the Sunday Gospel Brunch there, do give a try some day. It is a bit pricey but the food (buffet brunch) is delicious and the gospel music entertainers are great! They have you one your feet, praising God. We have been many times.

  3. Ha! I like your definitions of arithmetic and math. It turns out I've been right all these years when I've said math is not my friend. Put your way I haven't used math since school, either. I feel the same about Disney. I loved going when we lived there back in the 80's but it was so much more affordable. I can't see spending an entire week's salary or likely more, to take a family. They've become a not so family friendly place in that way. Happy Saturday to you, Terri and enjoy your company!

  4. Oh I loved the Grassroots. I did not know their original name was 13th floor. How interesting. Like you I use arithmatic but that is about it for me. Marvin is the math guy in the family. I would like to go to Florida to see Harry Potter world but Marvin is not a fan so I doubt I will be going. We went to Disney World on our Honeymoon. Saved for a year to buy a four day package. We had a great time though.

  5. Disney tickets are so pricey. I don't know how families can afford to go.
    Have a great weekend!

  6. HA! I'm the same way--dont bug me, LOL. Have a great Saturday and are you sure I can't entice you with some snow? (ducking, lol)

  7. I loved the Grassroots. I have several songs downloaded on my phone, but now I think I might have to add this one. It was a favorite. I have been using some simple math with my latest cross project since I am kind of using a bunch of different patterns to design the one I am doing.

  8. What a wonderful response to #6. Were I to play along (new glasses-- don't ask, lol) my answers to #3 and #9 would be just like yours. Oh, I'd have to add Kris K. and Earl Thomas Conley to the mix.

  9. Great answer. Would you believe I was at Disney World the day it opened? I was about the 10th person in line. Blogging I met someone that was there also and was about 15 people behind me in line. Crazy, huh?
I do hope to get to Epcot for a day and, yes, it is expensive. xo Diana

    1. That is crazy, Diana! I was at Disney the year it opened and we stayed at the then very new Contemporary Hotel. That was "my other life" and was a long time ago. When we first moved here 30 years ago, Florida residents could by a one-day ticket for $25.00.

  10. I love your last comment about working well under pressure...spoken like a true bookkeeper/accountant!! That was my position also, and it's a good thing I worked well under pressure, because it seems like I stayed in the pressure cooker all the time! I am happy to say that I just got out taxes done this week instead of waiting until the last minute! That's a happy thing for me! Loved your answers. We have only been to Disney maybe two times, and we've lived in Florida for many of those years. However, when our kids were small we were mostly out of state. And then when our grandson came along, they only came to Florida a few times when he was little, and no one cared about going, so that was fine with us. We enjoyed Sea World and Busch Gardens with our grandson..especially he loved the RIDES at B.G. when he was older. So there you go. I prefer natural beauty over manufactured and artificial. However, my hubby's brother worked at Disney when he was in college during the summers as the Riverboat captain. And his mother also worked in wardrobe for a while. I wouldn't want to fight the traffic or the long lines or pay the money to go now, even if you paid me to go! LOL>

    1. We (and the kiddos) preferred Busch Gardens to Disney when they were older because Busch has the best roller coasters. We kept our BG and Seaworld passes a few years longer than we did Disney. We hate Orlando traffic!

  11. I remember that song well, Terri! Yes, I've been to Disney World once, and that was enough for me. I know I sound like an old grump in saying that, but I'd much rather be in the mountains. Do I work well under pressure? Yes, I do! But like you, I do NOT want to be interrupted whatsoever.
    Blessings!

  12. I am the same way...I liked country in the...I am going to say early 90's...but for the most part I am not much of a fan.
I also like dark meat! Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend!

  13. You two should have all your numbers straight. I am not a math lover!
I always enjoy your thankful attitude.
