Saturday 9.... the Beatles

Baby's In Black

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Baby's in Black (1964)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
 From our archives.

1) Black is this week's signature color because Friday was "Black Friday," the day when retailers cut their prices and consumers flock to the stores. Did you score any "Black Friday" bargains?  Joe needed watch batteries for two of his watches so we went to Foshee Jewelers, where we have gone for years for watch batteries and repairs, and I got a new band for one of my watches. They gave us 25% off because it was Black Friday.

2) Feasting and football are also popular Thanksgiving weekend pastimes. Do your Thursday-Sunday plans include pigging out or watching a game?  A little of both!

3) At Thanksgiving dinners, Crazy Sam's homemade gravy is always a hit. (Probably because she's so generous with the cognac, which gives the gravy a nutty taste.) What was particularly delicious at your Thanksgiving table?  Can I just say everything?!

4) Among the biggest the Black Friday advertisers are Target, Kohl's, Macy's and Best Buy. If you could have a $100 gift card to any one of those stores, which would you choose?  Target.

5) This week's song, "Baby's in Black," is about a girl who wears black because she's in mourning. Do you find that the color you're wearing reflects your mood?
Not so much. I never really thought about it.

6) The woman who inspired this song, Astrid Kirchherr, has been friends with Paul McCartney since he and his bandmates (John Lennon, George Harrison, Stu Sutcliffe and Pete Best) met her in Hamburg back in 1960. Tell us what you believe are the components of a strong, lasting friendship.  Trust and respect.  True for any relationship, I think.

7) In the early days of the Beatles, Paul McCartney and John Lennon began writing a play but abandoned it. Do you have a novel, painting, play, song or poem that you're going to finish "someday?"  Nope.

8) When he was 16, George Harrison dreamed of moving to Canada, Australia or Malta. In just a few years, he would visit all those places with Beatles and eventually decided there was no place like home and stayed in England (though he did also maintain a home in Hawaii). Have you ever thought about moving to another country? If so, where?  I have not. I, too, believe there is no place like home.

9)  Random question: Finish this sentence -- If you want me to give you "yes" for an answer, the best time to approach me is anytime but saying yes would depend on what the question is.

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's Saturday 9!  You can join in HERE!

Thank you for your visit!  Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

  1. I don't do Black Friday shopping anymore, no sense in it since my son is 22...anyways, I did scour the ads to make sure the items I/we did buy back in October weren't on sale.

    Have a great day, Terri.

  2. We went shopping at Old Navy on Thanksgiving night. It's a hour away from us but it's on our way home from MIL's where we ate dinner. Black Friday we went to Walmart but only for groceries.
    Have a nice day!

  3. Hooray for a discount on everyday items! It sounds like you're having a nice holiday weekend.

I think Target is going to get a little crowded with all of us who chose to go there!

Have a lovely Saturday, Terri! I am off to check on our turkey.

  4. Those were fun! I choose colors to wear based on my mood sometimes and dream of living in another country all the time. My imagination....because I would much rather be right where I am. Thanks for sharing! Any leftovers from Thanksgiving dinner? Hugs!

  5. Well it is iron Bowl day here in Alabama so all eyes will be turned to the game in Auburn. Known as the Iron Bowl, it is the big Thanksgiving game here. In Georgia, The Yellow Jackets will most likely get hammered by the DAWGS...not looking forward to that.:) I have really enjoyed the football season this year...so many upsets and everyone is wondering who will make it to the final four.

  6. How nice that the jewelers extended you a Black Friday discount! I, too, never thought about my wardrobe matching my mood. (Uh-oh, since I favor basic black!) Wow on those hypothetical gift-card choices. I wouldn't want any of them, but would probably take Target and give my (liberal-leaning) girlfriend. Ha!

  10. No Black Friday for me! We spent the day with family, then traveled home from Mom's. Our Thanksgiving, thanks to Danny, was an incredible feast - I'm so grateful for his cooking!
    Blessings, Terri!
