Wednesday Medley for October 16th.
Welcome to this week’s Wednesday Medley! Thanks to Katsumi for this week's questions! You can join the fun HERE!!
1. Today is Bosses' Day. Workplace politics at the highest level of competition. Is this a day for employees to thank their bosses for being unfailingly kind and understanding throughout the year? A meaningless holiday pressuring backstabbing co-workers to kowtow to tyrannic managers? Or just another way for the groveling sycophants to max out their credit cards in a piteous attempt to curry favor?
Bonus question for those of us who've retired: On the One-To-Ten Scale, how incomprehensibly ecstatic are you about not having to put up with this kind of malarkey anymore? I am off-the-scale ecstatic about not having to put up with Boss' Day malarkey (or Administrative Assistant Day!!). Or any words of encouragement to those of us who still have forty years to go before Social Security kicks in? Get everyone to just agree to ignore it. My former boss didn't like it at all. The one before her.... we forgot one year and his wife tore into us about how could we forget. It was awful. Hated that meaningless stupid "holiday". Not so bad if you truly appreciate the person being celebrated but awful when there is no respect or appreciation!
2. October 16 is also National Fossil Day! Just as new living species are discovered, new fossilized animals are found.
A type of trilobite was named Aegrotocatellus jaggery after Mick Jagger, lead singer of The Rolling Stones. Believe it or not, there are plenty of people who feel Mick Jagger is a fossil. Not me!! I have loved the Rolling Stones since I was barely a teen. If Mick is a fossil, then so am I!! LOL
If someone was to name something after you, what would you like it to be? Please don't name anything after me. I would much rather honor my parents with something named after them!
3. Today is Hagfish Day! What is a hagfish? Well, I wouldn't rush to look it up. Those things should come with a warning. All the cuteness of a viper and the cuddliness of an eel. Allegedly very delicious and plentiful, though, if you can get them to stop slithering around long enough to cook them. Which is why we celebrate Hagfish Day!
Which member(s) of The Animal Kingdom gives you the creeps? Or is it a slimy co-worker from Question #1? I can't think of an animal that gives me the creeps but that boss I mentioned (or maybe just his wife) still gives me the creeps! LOL
4. Cheers! We also celebrate Drink Local Wine Week and National Liqueur Day! Is there a winery in your locale? I have mentioned numerous times that we like to visit a local winery (45 minutes away) in Clermont, FL. called The Lakeridge Winery. Do you have a favorite cordial or a mixed drink made with a liqueur? I don't drink much but have enjoyed Amaretta, Anisette, and Limoncello. A non-potent potable such as a refreshing smoothie? I am not a smoothie person.
5. Happy Birthday, Angela Lansbury! Her first two roles were as the maid in Gaslight and Sibyl Vane in The Picture Of Dorian Gray. Truly a star of stage, screen and television, Angela played on Broadway and as Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote. One of her most respected film roles was that of Laurence Harvey's mother in The Manchurian Candidate, an often overlooked political thriller. She was believable despite being only three years older than Laurence Harvey.
Can you think of any out-of-the-ordinary casting? Or the type of casting in which Hollywood expects us to suspend all logic? Just a couple of days ago we were watching a show and both of us said that they got the casting all wrong with that woman... and now I can't remember who or what show it was. But yes, I agree that it does indeed happen! I love Angela Lansbury, by the way!
6. Please share something about your week. Physical therapy, haircuts yesterday, and a trip to Publix for prescriptions and a few groceries. Today Joe has a doctor's appointment and we have a small group meeting with our church group. Tomorrow is Joe's pre-op appointment at the hospital and we sure hope he makes it through this one!! Prayers appreciated!

Thanks for your visit! Peace & hugs! God bless!!

Angela Lansbury was perfect in as the singer in the English music hall and Dorian's love interest in The Picture Of Dorian Gray. I have seen her competition for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress that year which went to Anne Revere, who was Elizabeth Taylor and Angela Lansbury's mother in National Velvet. Not even close.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day!
Lots of info today. I have worked around someone like your old bosses wife and it certainly doesnt make for a good work place. I used to be a wine drinker and there are a couple near by but dont imbibe any more...!!! I have two grandchildren named after me and it tickled me the parents wanted to do that. Hope all goes well with Joe's appt.
ReplyDeleteOh my word, that woman! I wonder if he (your boss) wasn't humiliated beyond measure?
ReplyDeleteYes! to Mick Jagger … but I've always liked Keith best. (*smile*) I do miss watching Angela Lansbury in Murder, She Wrote.
Prayers for Joe!
I love Murder She Wrote. I hope Joe has a good Dr appointment.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I am beyond ecstatic to not have to deal with all those made up holiday as well. I don't watch much TV...I stitch while my hubby watches. There is not much on these days that thrills me. I remember thinking Julia Roberts was very wrong for one of John Grisham's books and the Firm also had the wrong leading lady. I don't remember her name. Those are the the only two I can think of right now.
ReplyDeletelook at you all with small groups with your church - still makes me smile you found a good church home!!!
ReplyDeleteWishes that your Doc appointment has smooth sailing.... :)
ReplyDeleteI'm getting a kick out of your story of how your boss reacted to Bosses' Day. Our top administrator asked several people today if they were in on her gift and they were like, "What gift?" No one even knew it was bosses' day.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a good boss-less day!
Well - I didn't know it was bosses day today! And I have really nice bosses. How did I miss that?
ReplyDeleteI'm praying that all goes well with Joe!
Terri, I love me my wine, too! Prayers lifted for Joe; please keep us up to date, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
I'm with you on ignring Bosses day. Hoping your husbands procedures go well.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a job outside the home for almost 30 years, but when I worked, I had great bosses. Both of them men, and both of them no longer alive. (One died in a plane crash 33 years ago, leaving a wife and 2 little kids. The other died of a massive heart attack 2 years ago, at the age of 60). I never needed a "holiday" to show my appreciation to either of them. I think it's a dumb holiday.
ReplyDeleteI love visiting wineries! We have over a dozen in our area. When we have guests from out of town, it's fun to take them there.
Animals that give me the creeps are snakes and rats. I hate them!!
Just last week, my husband and I did a rewatch of Gaslight, and since Angela Lansbury is in that, I was prompted to Google her to see if she was still alive. Not many of the classic film stars left.
Oh, thanks for stopping by my blog and for following along. I am enjoying being back in blog land.
Praying for Joe's surgery!!
Love,
Patti
Hope you got all your errands done and Joe's appointment went okay.
