Saturday 9 with England Dan & John Ford Coley...

I'd Really Love to See You Tonight

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

I'd Really Love to See You Tonight (1976)

Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.

1) This song is about a guy who, out of the blue, phones an ex. Have you ever spontaneously phoned or emailed a former lover?   Nope.  Has an ex ever reached out to you?  Nope.

2) He suggests walking through the park, taking a drive along the beach, or watching TV. Do any of those suggestions appeal to you right now?  Right now, watching TV.  Tropical Storm Nestor is in the Gulf right now making a beach visit difficult, and the coming rain leaves out a walk in the park.

3) "England Dan" got his nickname because he was a passionate Beatles fan and would affect a British accent when he talked about his favorite group. Are you good at imitating accents?  Terrible -- laughable, actually!

4) Dan met John Colley when they were high school classmates in Dallas. When they were still kids, they agreed that "John Ford Coley" would be a better stage name. Think back to your high school days. Which of your friends daydreamed along with you?  Elaine and I day-dreamed about horse ranches. Karen and I day-dreamed about the boys we liked.  Mary and I day-dreamed about movie stars.

5) After the duo disbanded, "England Dan" went to Nashville, billed himself by his real name -- Dan Seals -- and recorded country music. Who is your favorite country performer?  I like quite a few but Pasty Cline came to mind.

6) Today John Ford Coley lives in TN. He performs occasionally and raises horses. Have you ever been to TN?  I  have been through Tennessee several times and visited blogging friends in the Chattanooga area a few times.

7) In 1975, when this song was popular, Foster Grant Sunglasses had a suggested retail price of $5/pair. Do you buy sunglasses more for fashion or utility?  Utility.

8) The most popular movie in 1975 was Jaws. Have you seen it?  LOL... only about 100 times. It was grandson Tristan's favorite movie as a youngster and we watched it daily when he came for his 2-week summer visits.  Seriously. I think I still know most of the lines and he is 23 now!!

9) Random question: Excluding anyone related to you by blood or marriage, what man are you closest to?  Probably our friend, Gregory. If I called him to help with anything, he would be here. He has been our friend for 20+ years.

Thanks for your visit!!  Happy Saturday!!

Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

  2. So you dreamed of horses, too! I don't seem to hear about or know too many horse-crazy girls these days. It's unicorns. lol
I agree about terrible accents being the best. We have a lot of fun at work singing along to "Amore" in ridiculous Italian accents (Dean Martin probably spins in his grave) and we break out the worst British accents you've ever heard for "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts." Good times!
This was fun! Have a blessed and wonderful Saturday, Terri!

  5. What an interesting post today. I loved the bit about England Dan. Raining here as well today but tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful so hoping to get in a beach walk before we go home.

  7. As I said on Stacy's post, this song really takes me back to sophomore year of high school. I quite loved that song back in the day, plus their "Nights Are Forever Without You."

Ooh, Patsy Cline! She was awesome! What a voice she had!

I will be going to Nashville with my daughter in November. Also joining us will be her mother-in-law and sister-in-law. We 4 gals might get to take in a concert or visit the Grand Ol' Opry. I am so excited.

Oh, an while a drive along the beach always sounds great (but not doable for me in landlocked Idaho) and park walking is something I regularly do, watching TV is one my agenda every single evening. Gary loves TV---it's his way to relax---so we spend most of our evenings watching something.

    Have a great weekend,
    Patti

  8. Yes(!) to Patsy Cline. I never knew much about her until the recent PBS series on Country music; I thought it was so well done. Just returning home, I've not heard any updates on Hurricane Nestor. Hope it stays well offshore!

    1. Tropical Storm Nestor is long gone but sure spun off some nasty tornadoes and more rain than we have had in years.

  9. Danny and I usually listen to songs from the 70s when playing backgammon, and the one here is often played, so of course, it's going through my mind - lol! I love Patsy Cline, too, Terri. What a unique voice she had, and it was such a tragedy to lose her so young.
Stay safe in all of Nestor's aftermath!
    Blessings!
