The Wednesday Medley for Valentine's Day...

Okay, okay. I'm going off calendar a bit.  The National Days for Wednesday the 13th are National Cheddar Day and National Tortellini Day.  We did food last week and I can't let Valentine's Day go by without some attention.

VALENTINE’S DAY – February 14

Valentine's Day - February 14

VALENTINE’S DAY

Valentine’s Day began as St. Valentine’s Day, a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus.  February 14th, Valentine’s, Day first became associated with romantic love during the High Middle Ages as the tradition of courtly love was then flourishing.  During 18th century England, this day evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery and sending Valentine cards.

HISTORY
Credit is traditionally given to Pope Gelasius for declaring February 14 as Saint Valentine’s Day around the year 496 to separate the church from the Roman celebration of Lupercalia, an ancient pagan fertility festival which occurred on February 15th.

1.  I think St. Valentine's Day is for everyone, whether you have a romantic love interest or not.  I received a Valentine card from my sister (thank you Patti!) - case in point.  It is all about LOVE, not just romantic love.  What are your traditions for celebrating Valentine's Day?  We usually have a card for each other and will go out to eat - but maybe not ON Valentine's Day.  It really has never been a big deal for us.
2.  When you were in elementary school, did you decorate a shoe box and deliver those little valentines to all your classmates?  I LOVED making my shoebox into a work of art for exchanging cards at school. Perhaps in Sunday School?  I don't recall that we did this in Sunday School or MYF.

3.  Do you enjoy playing Cupid?  I never have, so I don't know! Have you ever introduced a couple who really clicked?  No, I don't think so.  I would be happy to put some friends together, but it hasn't happened yet.  You never know what could happen...
4.  Which traditional Valentine's Day gift would you rather receive:  Chocolate, flowers, or a card with a personal message?  I've mentioned before that, though flowers are beautiful, I would just as soon not receive flowers. I can't put them in the house because of our cats so they go in the trash much too soon and I don't get to enjoy them.  Give me some chocolate and a nice card... I'm happy!
5.  What is the best movie to watch on Valentine's Day?  There are so many sweet movies, how can you pick just one?  I really can't.  I just asked Joe and he didn't hesitate to offer An Affair To Remember.  Then he said, or Nightmare on Elm Street.  Ha!
6.  Tell us something random about your week!  We are at the surgeon's office this morning. I have Kim filling in for me at work (she had the job before me). We are anxious to hear what Dr. Streitman has to say and to get Joe's procedure (whichever it will be) scheduled so he can get back some enjoyment in his life. Prayers appreciated!  He is also still fighting this cold we have both had and he is having a harder time than I've had. We need something to just dry it up now. We are both so tired of coughing!! Whine, whine.
I appreciate your visit and I hope you will leave your link below if you joined in today!  It is fun to visit each other and compare answers!
Peace & hugs!  God bless!

  2. Praying Joe gets well soon and can have his procedure even sooner. Valentine Day has never been a 'biggie' for us, but if it were, I would say a card would be just fine. Will be anxious to hear what the surgeon has to say today.

  3. I hope things go well for Joe. Nightmare on Elm Street! I was thinking, but decided against it, Witness For The Prosecution. :-) I feel for you two with that cold. We had it too, and the cough hung on over a month!!!

  5. Valentine's Day isn't a big deal for us, either. Joe's answer to the movie question sounds like something Tim would offer up. LOL Praying things go well today!

  9. Praying both you and Joe will feel better soon. So many people have had "the cough that won't quit" this year. No fun at all!

  10. I don't recall ever having seen An Affair to Remember, but will be on the lookout on Netflix or one of Tom's myriad channels. Like y'all, I don't like going out on major holidays, because of the crowds and feeling like we're being rushed. Prayers for great news from Joe's doctor!

  11. "Nightmare on Elm Street" !!! That Joe, still has his sense of humor even when he's feeling punk with that cold! I'm praying he gets the answers he needs at the doctor's visit today!

As for flowers, chocolate, or card, I'm with you. I'll take the chocolate and the card, but I do love flowers too and we have no pets.

  12. So sorry you and Joe have been under the weather. It isn't fun, but hopefully, we can get over whatever this mess is in time to do it all over again once the pollen starts. Oh the problems we have. LOL! Do you hope you get some answers from the doc today.

  14. Happy Valentines Day and I will pray for the both of you. I imagine that the severe changes in the temperatures do not help one bit.
