NATIONAL FROZEN YOGURT DAY

NATIONAL FROZEN YOGURT DAY
National Frozen Yogurt Day is observed annually on February 6th.
Frozen yogurt sales are increasing every year as people want a healthier alternative to ice cream. The explosion of flavors and topping choices add to the popularity of frozen yogurt.
Frozen yogurt was first developed 1970 in the United States as a soft-serve treat produced by H.P Hood called Frogurt. Humphreys and Dannon soon followed with their own versions of the treat. Its popularity grew in the 80s, mostly due to frozen yogurts “health food” status. Ice cream manufacturers soon caught on, offering low-fat options.
Frozen yogurt is again making a comeback as consumers have begun to prefer the tart taste of yogurt.

HISTORY
Within our research, we were unable to identify the creator of National Frozen Yogurt Day.
-----------------------------------------
Frozen Yogurt Day was the most fun of the choices for today's first question. I have no idea why the creator chose a winter day to celebrate a frozen dessert, but here we are!! Let's talk about food today (one of my favorite subjects)!
1. Today, Wednesday, February 6th, is Frozen Yogurt Day! A cold dessert on what must be a very cold day for most of you reading this today! Do you enjoy frozen yogurt? Yes, I do! Does it matter what the weather is? Not really. Share with us your favorite flavor and/or topping, please!! I love chocolate frozen yogurt with wet walnuts... lots of wet walnuts!!
(Walnuts in a syrup made of brown sugar, corn syrup, maple syrup...)
2. What food do you know you shouldn't eat but can't help yourself? Pasta with Alfredo sauce, which is so loaded with bad calories. If it is on the menu, I will probably order it and usually with shrimp, too.
3. If your life was a meal, what kind of meal would it be? I'm a small-town, Midwestern girl and my life would look like this...nothin fancy and let's eat in the kitchen.
With a side of sliced garden tomatoes and cottage cheese,
but instead of pepper (in this picture), I would sprinkle them with sugar.
My life has been pretty grounded in ordinary with sweetness sprinkled in!
My life has been pretty grounded in ordinary with sweetness sprinkled in!
4. Do you like spicy food? Yes, I sure do! Why or why not? We Kelly kids were raised eating Dad's garden hot peppers and his hot pepper goulash. What is the spiciest food you have ever eaten? I don't know if Wasabi is considered a food or just a condiment, but that stuff can make your sinuses burn!!
5. (Most of you know I have been sick with a cold.) What food do you eat or crave when you have a bad cold? Salty crackers, Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup, and hot tea.
6. Please tell us something random about your week (and maybe it will involve food). Joe and I were both sick Super Bowl Sunday so before the game, we ordered egg drop soup, pork fried rice and egg rolls with hot mustard from our favorite Chinese restaurant (and they deliver). It went down good for both of us. Speaking of the game... what a bore! When we really don't care who wins we usually root for the underdog. Hard to get excited about the Rams. We just got to the point where we wanted it to be over!

Meatloaf/mashed taters/green beans... .my kind of life too!! Have a great Wednesday!!!
ReplyDeleteEgg rolls and hot mustard sounds really good. It's been a while since I've had that but I love it! What a fun Medley! Food is definitely something we all have in common. I'd never heard of wet walnuts, but walnuts or almonds or pecans are always a welcomed addition to my frozen yogurt or to cookies or cake! Thank you for the Medley, Terri!
ReplyDeleteLove the walnuts too on any dessert. That super bowl was so boring that I didnt watch the whole thing. I like hot spicy foods but they dont like me, so dont eat them often. I enjoy pasta with alfredo sauce too and most often order it when on the menu. But the meatloaf and mashed potatoes are a staple and always enjoyed. Hope you and Joe are both feeling better and will have a good Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness...your life meal has me hungry. I love a good meatloaf! (And all the rest you have with it looks good, too, like "wiggly" green beans.) My hottest thing is a condiment, too, I guess, but it's still the hottest thing I've had. I couldn't muster enough interest to even watch the Super Bowl this year. Thanks for hosting and have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteYour Super Bowl food sounds delicious. We had the game on, but hardly paid any attention to it. It was so underwhelming!
ReplyDeleteBlessings~
I put the wet walnuts on my yogurt, too! Hope you and Joe are feeling much better.
ReplyDeleteWet walnuts are my fave too. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI hope you + Joe are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about walnuts on top of yogurt like that. Your meal is similar to mine and so is the chicken noodle soup for a cold. I’m glad you two are better. We didn’t watch the game. Take care of yourself.
(But I bet you watched the SOTU, huh?)
(I think I figured out this posting thing. Google only recognizes me when I comment on my computer and not the iPad.)
That is weird but glad you figured it out! Yes, we watched the entire SOTU!
DeleteLove.
ReplyDeleteHope you are both getting better.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I am not a big fro yo fan...my grandkids are however. Hope you are feeling better today Terri.
ReplyDeleteOooh, now I'm craving pork-fried rice and egg-drop soup! Wish I'd thought to say Wasabi; man, that stuff is evil! I wasn't even tempted to turn on the Super (aka Stupid) Bowl.
ReplyDeleteYes...a fellow Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup fan! I have to admit that I do love meatloaf and mashed potatoes too...now THAT is also comfort food!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, chicken noodle soup is great when one has a cold! I wish I could tolerate spicy foods, but I can't. It's a challenge to even eat medium salsa. Always makes my nose run - lol! And I love yogurt, too, but would rather have ice cream any day.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Terri, and hope you're feeling much better today!
Oh, my husband will order Shrimp Alfredo every time we go to Olive Garden and he really shouldn't. :o)) I order their stuffed mushrooms as theirs are some of my favorites. Thanks for hosting us each week.
ReplyDeleteChocolate frozen yoghurt sounds good but I wouldn't have walnuts anywhere near it. I'm not a lover of nuts.
ReplyDeleteHi Terri! Someone had me try wasabi once, I think I spit it in the trash like a little kid. I did not care for it at all. It WAS hot.
ReplyDeleteThat meatloaf meal looks good! YUMMY! Loved your answers! Enjoy the rest of your week.

Wiggly green beans -- how funny! I've never heard of them called that.
ReplyDeleteThe Super Bowl -- yes, we were ready for it to be done long before it was. The singing of the National Anthem by Gladys Knight was good. We tuned it at the last of the 2 girls singing (before Gladys). Not sure why the anthem was sung twice.
Hope you and Joe feel better pronto!!!
LOL... I don't like green beans that are served nearly raw like we get in most restaurants these days. I always ask if the green beans are cooked and wiggly or just blanched. We are getting a little better each day.
DeleteTerri, Terri, Terri - why would you ruin a perfectly good frozen yogurt by putting walnuts in it? :)
ReplyDeleteI think I would be a meatloaf and mashed potatoes person too.
I was hungry when I came to visit your blog...now I am real hungry. LOL Hugs and blessings.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how long Wednesday Medley been around but I hope it stays. It fun.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
