We met with our cardio-vascular surgeon yesterday, Dr. Streitman. No surgery yet. They are ordering a heart cath, a CT scan of his torso/vascular system, and an ultra-sound of his neck. These are all important before they decide whether they will do open-heart or insert a TAVR.
We are hoping for the TAVR now. and it seemed like the doc was leaning toward that. It is less invasive and will last at least 10 years (and can be done again if necessary). He will be able to come home the day after the procedure. Right now he is considered right at the cusp of moderate/low risk. The TAVR is approved for high risk and some patients at moderate risk, but in about a month the FDA will be approving it for all patients so I think we are looking at (perhaps) April-ish.
I am thankful for wise doctors and the care being taken to make sure Joe will have the most successful procedure. Measuring the arteries and the opening of the aortic valve is critical to getting the right size valve replacement. None of the tests will be scheduled until Joe is over the cold and coughing, so we are still in the waiting pattern.
I am thankful for all the good wishes and prayers. Please continue to keep us on your prayer list!!
Happy Valentine's Day!! Love & hugs to all!!
God bless!!
Praying for you and your husband, Terri.

ReplyDeleteSo thankful that God has provided you with good doctors who really seem to have Joe's best interest at "heart"...pun intended. Praying he will soon be over the cold and feeling stronger and ready to take the next step in this process. Hope you are feeling better too. Happy Valentine's Day!
