No. 9 Dream
Saturday 9: No. 9 Dream (1974)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) John Lennon liked the number 9. It shows up in three of his songs (in addition to this song, he performed "Revolution #9" and "The One after 909" with the Beatles). He was born on the 9th of October, as was his son Sean. Coincidentally, "No. 9 Dream" hit #9 on the Billboard chart. Do you have a favorite number? Not really, but three keeps showing up in my life.
2) The phrase repeated in the chorus, "Ah bowakawa pousse pousse" means nothing. It's gibberish that John sang until he could come up with "real" lyrics for this melody. Then he decided he liked the sound of it, so he kept it. Can you think of a word that's fun to say just because you like how it sounds? I have answered with this before, so how about Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious?
3) John referred to "No. 9 Dream" as an example of "craftsmanship writing." A snatch of the melody just came to him and he got it down on a tape recorder, wrote lyrics, arranged it and recorded it in short order because he needed another song to finish the LP, Walls and Bridges. What's the last thing that you did because you were supposed to or you had to, and not because you wanted to? Ha... go to work, even though I really do like my part-time job.
4) Yet once "No. 9 Dream" was recorded, it became one of John's favorite of his solo songs. He loved its ethereal feel. Tell us about something that turned out better than you thought it would. My part-time job!!
5) When he was working, John drank a lot of tea, as many as 30 cups in a day. Do you take your tea with cream, sugar, honey, or lemon? Hot tea with two stevia packets, please. Sweet ICED tea with stevia or half n half at a restaurant. Sweet tea here in the south is just too sweet for me.
6) During his reclusive years (1975 to 1980), John didn't have household help, preferring to take care of his young son and housework himself. He did, however, have a chauffeur on call around the clock. If you could afford to a staff of one, what single thing would you have him/her do? Clean.
7) When John was a boy, he requested watercolors and colored pencils for his birthday and at Christmastime. Do you recall a special birthday or Christmas gift you received as a child? I got oil paints for Christmas when I was in 7th grade. Loved that gift!!
8) Beatles producer George Martin said John was "a completely impractical man." Would you describe yourself as impulsive, with flashes of practicality? Or are you practical, with flashes of impulsivity? I am not impulsive at all and tend to be too practical at times, so neither of those describes me.
9) Random question -- Congratulations! You just one the Saturday 9 Sweepstakes, and the prize is your choice of a boat or a motorcycle. Which one do you take? The boat, please!!
Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's Saturday 9!! You can find her blog HERE to join in!
Thanks for your visit today!
Peace & hugs! God bless!!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
This was fascinating, in that I had never heard of that song before, so I listened and watched the video of John and Oko singing that song. It was very interesting and I actually enjoyed it. I loved the Beatles as a teen, but never really got into John on his own, I guess because at that time I was busy with my own "dream"...getting married and having children, so rock music fell into the background and not on my playlist. This was different. Gave me a new appreciation. Anyway, I am impressed that you could spell supercalifragilisticexpialadocious, even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious! I've always loved that word too!! I take my hot tea with a spoonful of sugar, and lemon if it is available. I drink my iced tea UN-sweetened, with lemon. It is much more refreshing that way, without any sweetener. I'm not a traditional southern gal. I can be impulsive at times, but practicality and economy usually win out. (lack of funds to be too impulsive). Have a blessed day. I know you are working today, so I pray it will be a peaceful day and that you will feel better w/no coughing! God bless you my friend from Florida!
ReplyDeleteI drink my iced tea unsweetened. Sometimes I add lemon.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I'm with you on #6 -- I'd want someone to clean the house for me!
ReplyDeleteI use Splenda in my coffee and tea, but when I make a big pitcher of tea, I use plain old sugar. Enjoyed these questions and your answers.
ReplyDeleteNot a big John Lennon fan but I remember distinctly the day he was killed. We lived in Ga and I was listening to WSB radio as I washed dishes in the kitchen. The radio announcer gave the news and I remember being shocked. For someone who embraced Peace to be gunned down was shocking.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed learning more about you from your answers.
ReplyDeleteI did the questions on my own blog too. I love doing these. :)
Hope your weekend is wonderful.
I'd take the boat, too, Terri. Motorcycles scare the living daylights out of me!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, and happy Saturday!
Prior to Debbie's visit, I bought a little bottle of Stevia drops; must remember to try that in my tea! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious was the first thing that popped in my mind, as well. Re. the boat/motorcycle? I'd have to learn which would bring the most $$$ resale. HA!
ReplyDeleteI'll take the boat too! I love being out on the water. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.
