Back in the USA
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
SATURDAY 9: BACK IN THE USA (1978)
Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.
1) This song lists seven cities -- New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Chattanooga, Baton Rouge and St. Louis -- that Linda just loves. How many have you visited? Chattanooga, Baton Rouge, and New York.
2) The lyrics refer to hamburgers sizzling on the grill. What toppings do you believe make a perfect burger? Tomato, onion, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Cheese and lettuce if available!
3) The original recording of this song by Chuck Berry has always been one of Linda Ronstadt's favorites, one she used to enjoy singing along within the car. What's the most recent song you sang? I don't remember but most likely something from the 50s playing on Sirius Radio in the car.
4) Linda sang The National Anthem at Game 3 of the 1977 World Series. The New York Yankees won both that game and the series. How is your baseball team doing this season? I'm not a big baseball fan, but Joe's Phillies are in second place so far.
Since this is our last Saturday 9 before Independence Day, let's ask some questions about the holiday.
5) During the Revolutionary War, General Washington celebrated the 4th of July by giving his troops a double ration of rum. Will you imbibe any spirits on Independence Day? Probably not.
6) The first man to sign the Declaration of Independence, John Hancock, said he wrote his name so large King George could see it, even without his glasses. Do you require glasses for reading? No. I am near-sighted and read without my glasses most of the time.
7) Since July 4 is a federal holiday, banks are closed and there's no mail delivery. Thanks to email and ATMs, Sam finds going without those services isn't a hardship. What about you? Will you find it inconvenient that banks and the USPS are closed on July 4? Nope. Not a big deal to me.
8) The first 4th of July parade each year is held at 12:01 AM in Gatlinburg, TN. Will you attend a parade or fireworks to celebrate the 4th? No parades. Our fireworks are the night before, here in Lakeland. We have never been. I avoid crowds whenever I can.
9) More and more Americans celebrate our nation's holiday by eating foods from Italy and Germany. For the July 4, 2016 holiday, more than $50 million was spent on Italian sausage and bratwurst. What's on your 4th of July menu? We are going out for BBQ with friends.
Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's Saturday 9!! You can find her HERE if you want to join in!

It's July already??
ReplyDeleteI don't remember this song at all. I liked Linda Ronstadt. We will be having BBQ at church and come home to watch fireworks from our patio. I don't like crowds either.
ReplyDeleteWhere has the time gone? Our 4th of July celebration will be very quiet. Maybe a grilled hamburger, but that is it! There are fireworks close by and if we sit on the porch, we can enjoy them. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who Unknown is. Please identify yourself!! I don't want to block you from my blog.
DeleteI don't like crowds either. I won't be leaving the house this weekend. We get to see fireworks every Friday in the summer from our house so the 4th fireworks don't seem so special anymore.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
Neither Danny nor I like crowds, so we will just stay home for the Fourth. We will hear lots of fireworks, though, as our town celebrates on the 3rd and a large local neighborhood on the 4th. Poor doggies with their sensitive ears!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Terri!
Wait, July already? (grin)---been to all of the places listed on number 1. Enjoyed your answers, smiles.
ReplyDeleteWe are going to Grimmwood on July 4th so not sure what foods my family will prepare. Most likely Hamburgers and Hotdogs. I love Hamburgers and I could eat them every day!
ReplyDeleteGoing out for BBQ sounds like a good idea!
ReplyDeleteWe just got BBQ from our favorite smokehouse to eat...and put in the freezer. I may want to take a pack out for the 4th! We're getting a rain shower right now and it's nice to be at home. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDelete… and I thought I was the only baseball non-fan in America! I've a new favorite burger: Putting an 'over-easy' egg atop with guacamole spice salsa on the side for dipping. BBQ's always a GOOD idea!
ReplyDeleteI probably wouldn't do very well on this meme...don't remember the song, but I liked Linda Ronstadt's voice. I'm not the huge baseball fan here...but John like the Rays. I'm more of a Red Sox fan if any. Still don't know what we are doing for the 4th. Having it on a Wed. makes it hard for people to come to our place from very far...seems like everyone is too busy or tired. We usually host a big gathering and make homemade ice-cream, etc. but I don't see it happening this year...I feel kind of sad...and relieved in a way too. A lot of work for me... I hope you have a pleasant time with your friends.
ReplyDeleteDetroit, Chicago and St Louis for me!
ReplyDeleteYou have the perfect hamburger toppings. I may have to come over. :)
Have a great 4th! I'll be working that evening.
Like you, I try to avoid crowds when I can. And especially in this time when it is more likely some kind of trouble might erupt in a large gathering of people.
ReplyDeleteThe fireworks show in Washington DC on TV is excellent and that's what we will be watching from the comfort of our recliners.
