No silly cat jokes today (hooray!)! LOL
I had the nicest phone call surprise yesterday that tickled me silly! My BFF Elaine called from Illinois to tell me they will be visiting us for a few days in March!! We always have such a good time when she and hubby Jim visit us. (Now that I'm retired, we WILL be venturing up that way soon to visit with them!)
Most of you know that Elaine and I have been besties since we were 10 years old. Her house was across the street from mine and we basically grew up together. She was in the band (flute/piccolo) and I played the trumpet. We both worked at Weldon's Ice Cream Factory. We both loved Nancy Drew. She was a year ahead of me in school because of her July birthday and my December birthday but it was fun for me to visit her (my senior year) a few times at The Ohio State University where she graduated with a degree in nursing and is also where she met her hubby Jim. Elaine was my maid of honor in my first wedding and I was a bridesmaid in her wedding to Jim. They have three boys who are all successful and have made us all proud.
We will be going to a Spring Training game with them. Jim is a Cardinals fan so that event has been planned for but who knows what else we will find to do...
We were 15 in this picture. Both of our families were vacationing in Canada at a fishing camp on Rice Lake, Ontario.
A baseball game a couple of years ago.
An airboat ride...
Visiting Soloman's Castle in Ona, FL...
Dinner at our church's Mardi Gras event...
The Alamo replica at Solomon's Castle...
The Ringling...
The beach at Tarpon Springs...
And when Joe and I visited Ohio over Labor Day weekend (2017), we visited Elaine's mom and spent an hour or so visiting with her. She calls me her fourth daughter. We ran back and forth between our homes like we lived in them both (and we sort of did).
I have been so blessed by Elaine's friendship over these many years. When you have a friend for 50+ years, it goes beyond special to my thinking.
We have also been blessed with visits from Elaine's two sisters, Judy and Peggy....
Peggy, her hubby Kirk, and Joe visiting Hollis Gardens
Judy, Aunt Sid (their mom's sister), Joe and me at The House of Blues
So I am tickled with anticipation of another visit from my dear friend and her hubby. Elaine reads my blogs by email. I know she will see this. Thanks for the call, Elaine, and for putting us into your itinerary!!
Thanks for your visit today! Peace & hugs!

I'm so happy for you that your friend is coming for a visit. That's a long time to be friends.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
AWESOME NEWS!!!! smiles...have a beautiful day, friend.
ReplyDeleteNo friend like an old friend.
ReplyDeleteI realize I have been following your blog for a while because I remember her and your long relationship ! Anticipation is some of the best part of the visit.
ReplyDeleteA friend that long is 'family', not just a friend. So happy she is coming to visit again and I know you will have a fun time. Enjoyed the pictures of days gone by.
ReplyDeleteHooray for such a nice surprise! Visits with friends are always a blessing.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of you and Elaine at 15 is awesome, y'all were cute girls. It is a blessing that the two of you have remained close friends through the years.
ReplyDeleteLove that you will have your BFF visiting in March! That is quite a treat! I know you will have a great time. I guess we'd better get our reservation in soon before you get booked up for the spring training games!! Anyway, I am excited for you to have such a great visit to look forward to!! Sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteA friend like that is a special gift! I remember her visiting before. This is something to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteI'd be squealing! 50+ years is sure noteworthy. Sounds like something Good Housekeeping used to feature.
ReplyDeleteOld friends are the best. I have a friend, Debbie, that you read about in my blog that I have been friends with since high school -- 40+ years. I am so excited for you having your friend visit! Can't wait to read about all you do together!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful blessing it is to have such a long friendship! That's how I feel about my friend Elaine - the one who took that RV trip to Alaska last summer. So many memories we made together.
