Thanks to Joyce for this week’s Hodgepodge, the first in the new year! You can join the fun HERE!
1. It's that time of year again...time for Lake Superior University to present a list of words (or phrases) they'd like to see banished (for over-use, mis-use, or genera uselessness) in 2018. You can read more about the decision making process and word meaning here, but this year's top vote getters are-
unpack, dish (as in dish out the latest rumor), pre-owned, onboarding/offboarding, nothingburger, let that sink in, let me ask you this, impactful, Cofefe, drill down, fake news, hot water heater (hot water doesn't need to be heated), and gig economy
Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word not on the list you'd like to add?

I am baffled by these words because, frankly, I don’t believe I’ve seen them used, misused, or over-used. I also don’t have one to add this year.
2. What's something you need to get rid of in the new year? There are still drawers to clean out from our move nearly a year ago, so there is that. I also can always do a little attitude adjustment now and then….
3. Where do you feel stuck? I am stuck on Joe! LOL...and retirement!
4. January is National Soup Month. When did you last have a bowl of soup? Last week. Was it made from scratch or from a can? From scratch. Your favorite canned soup? Chicken Noodle. Your favorite soup to make from scratch on a cold winter's day? I make good chili and good soups in general. We love soup and I like making soup.
5. Tell us one thing you're looking forward to in 2018. I look forward to each new day, but we do have some fun things planned already. Our son’s retirement party later this month and we have a beach weekend planned with family in June! That's more than one!
6. Insert your own random thought here. I tripped and fell (again) in the parking lot at the hardware store. When my knees hurt, I tend to drag my feet and once again I hit a parking stop. My wrist is sprained, and I landed on my bad knee. Two lovely men helped me get up because I wouldn’t let Joe help. One of these days I will really hurt myself and that knee will get done whether I want to or not. Ice is my friend for a few days. Sigh.

Thanks for your visit!! Happy new year! Peace & hugs!

Ouch! Sorry to hear that you fell. Sending you healing vibes.
ReplyDeleteBless your heart Terri....falling is dangerous at our age. I am making a big pot of chicken and rice soup today. I plan to share some with a friend. I hope it will help us deal with this cold weather. I am sick of it.
ReplyDeleteI hate that you tripped and fell. It can happen so easily and it takes a long time to heal. Take care of yourself. It's cold and rainy here today...a good day to stay inside and blog! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteFirst, STOP FALLING. Ok, now...LOL I am just now hearing some of those words and the definitions don't make sense on several. I don't know why every generation feels the need to give nonsense definitions to words that were fine to begin with. Stay warm down there. We're in the 20s right now with sleet which is predicted to turn to snow in a couple hours. Needless to say, several bridges are closed for the day.
ReplyDeleteI dont think I have heard or used any of those words either, but there are some really crazy ones out there these days. I am sorry that you fell and I know you are in pain. Please take care of yourself, and with 'snow' supposed to come your way, stay inside and stay warm.
ReplyDeleteOh! So sorry about your fall. Hope that your on the mend soon!!
ReplyDeleteOh no...I'm sorry you took a tumble in the parking lot. Remember when you fall pull your arms in and land on your side or butt. Never ever try to catch yourself with your arms. I learned that lesson the hard way last year. Sending healing prayers.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year,
Lori in Blue Ridge, GA
I sure did those questions wrong by answering them in my comment. It does work better doing it on my own blog, oh well, so much for starting off wrong. I don't think I will go back and do it over though, takes too much time and I wan to surf the web today and read others post. Glad I stop by. The questions are great for getting to know the writer of a blog. Happy new Year
ReplyDeleteTough fall! I'm so sorry to see this! Icing your knee while dealing with this cold weather, is that an unfortunate combination or what?!!
ReplyDeleteQuite a lot to think about, good post. Hope you're ok from the fall.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about your fall. I feel a couple times too - and now I try to be really careful. I didn't see words on the list that were over used and used incorrectly either. Keep being stuck on Joe! sandie♥
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your fall Terri. I hope you are taking it easy. It's very obvious from your posts that you are stuck on Joe :)
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your fall. I find myself being over cautious because my knees don't want to work a lot of times. Going to the beach in June, how nice to have that to look forward to!
ReplyDeleteOh Terri! I'm sorry you fell. It's hard on the body and the pride!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are still stuck on Joe - he's a good one to be stuck with!
I don't understand that list of words either. Other years have been much more on target.
I made homemade vegetable soup on Monday and we've been having it for lunch as well. It's perfect for this cold weather!
Oh Terri, I was so concerned to hear about your fall. (Tom shuffles all the time, as well.) A dear friend and former blogger, had the same thing occur; only hers required back surgery and living with a neck brace. Makes one wonder how many others this happens to. So glad you're OK!
ReplyDeleteOh Terri no!! I'm so sorry to hear of your fall. That is no way to usher in the new year.. :-(((. I am glad to hear, however, that you're still stuck on Joe and on retirement. ❤️ A beach party sounds like a fairy tale right now when we've got such bitterly cold temps. Take care of yourself and I sure hope you're not in a lot of pain. A fall like that does make even simple tasks harder to do though. God bless you two in the new year. xo
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to read about your recent fall. I pray for a swift recovery. On the unpacked boxes thing, we moved into our current house almost 20 years ago. We still have unpacked boxes.
ReplyDeleteSWMBO is retired as of January 1st so we're in a period of transition and adjustment.
I hope that you and Joe have a wonderful New Year with great health and all the things that life has to answer.
Thank you for visiting my blog page and commenting.
Oh yikes, so sorry about your fall and your injured knee. My mom had her knee replaced at age 80 and wishes she'd done it years earlier if that is any encouragement to you : ) Take it easy and enjoy this new year!
