Taking a Hodgepodge Pass.....

Our plans for Tarpon Springs yesterday had to be changed.  At 10:00 p.m. on Monday night, Joe asked me to take him to the emergency room.  He had been having stomach pain all day and had started vomiting.  The pain was worse.  Off we went.

Long story short, his small intestine got twisted and caused a blockage. He was admitted and got a CT scan, a couple of x-rays, lots of blood work, etc., etc.  I left the hospital yesterday morning at 3:45 a.m. after seeing him settled in his room and got home to get about two and a half hours of sleep before heading back out for the hospital.

He is doing fine, making progress (TMI...passing gas) and will get a clear liquid diet today.  Hopefully, they will let him come home tomorrow.  Fingers crossed.

Prayers requested and appreciated!!  Thanks for your visit.  Peace & hugs.

BUT...here are the Hodgepodge questions (thank you Joyce!) with my quick and very little thought out answers!

1. What title would you give this current chapter of your life?  You Call This Retired?!

2. December 6 is National Microwave Oven Day. Who knew?  Not me! Besides popcorn and coffee reheats, what's the most common thing you microwave?  Bacon.  And meats to defrost.  Could you get along without a microwave?  Yes, I could, but I don't want to.

3. If you could insert yourself into any Christmas carol and experience the lyrics in real life, which Christmas carol lyric would you choose and why?  Silver Bells, because it seems joyful and bright!

4. Describe the most beautiful drive you've ever taken.  Any drive through the Smokies is beautiful.

5. What's something on your Christmas list this year? (an actual list or figuratively speaking, either one)  I really and truly don't have a Christmas list and there really is nothing I 'want' or 'need'.  I always love anything under the tree with my name on it and love being surprised!

6. Insert your own random thought here.  All my thoughts right now are with Joe and getting him well and home!  So again, prayers are appreciated!

  2. Wow! What a difference a day makes...I am SO sorry to hear about Joe's painful experience. so thankful that it wasn't more serious, but this is certainly serious enough. Thankful they seem to have it under control and hopefully he'll be home soon. Makes me wonder how that happened? Strange. I know you are very exhausted and I am surprised you could even write, but thank you for letting us know so we can pray for both of you. Praying today is a good day in every way. God bless you dear friend.

  12. Of course that's where your thoughts are. I pray they get Joe all fixed up and he will be back to his normal. I know that's a lot of stress for you both and bless his heart, the pain of a blockage. Glad the doctors were quick on it!

  13. Hope Joe is continuing to improve.
Loved your answers and #1 really made me chuckle as I'm sure my beloved would agree with that. I almost chose Silver Bells as it's such a happy song.

  14. Praying for Joe, Terri. What a scary thing! I've heard of that and have wondered how a person's intestine gets twisted, and then because it can happen, isn't it surprising it doesn't happen more often, and thank God it doesn't. I sure hope that Joe is on the mend and thankful you have health care facilities nearby. God bless you.

I enjoyed reading your answers, even if they were short :) Mine were, too... Take care!

  18. Okay, I'm commenting to this blog post long after you wrote it. Had to read backwards to find out what had happened to Joe. Wow! So sorry!! How does an intestine get twisted? Is there anything at all a person can do to prevent it (I can't imagine what it would be). Sounds terribly painful. I'm glad to know (since I'm writing this on 12/12/17) that he's much improved now.

    1. Barbara, the doctors don't know why. It could be a lazy small intestine, it could be scar tissue from previous surgeries (appendix or gall bladder) or who knows...they don't. We have two friends who had the same thing. One got better (like Joe) and they other had to have surgery. It is scary. No lettuce, cabbage or raw veggies for two weeks.
