Throwback & Thankful Tuesday.....

Today would have been my dad's 89th birthday. He was only 63 when cancer took him from us in 1989.  I just need to remember him on his birthday each year, so please bear with me.

Dad was born on November 3, 1926, and was raised on a farm in Fayette County, Ohio.  He was the baby of three kids.  Aunt Phyllis was the oldest, then my Uncle Bill.  Dad quit high school in the middle of his senior year to join the army.  WWII ended while he was in basic training, so he never had to go to war.  He also didn't go back to school, but supported his family working for the Department of Defense where he reached a GS11 level and retired from there at age 55.  I'm glad he retired when he did, and he and Mom got to enjoy some years together, traveling between Ohio and Florida where they were "snowbirds" living here six months of the year. They are the reason Joe and I moved to Florida, actually.

Dad loved being on the water. This is him, here in Florida, on the lake where they lived for six months of the year, near Leesburg, FL.

I was blessed beyond measure with such a wonderful dad.  Of course, I miss him still, but the memories are all happy ones.  I'm glad I could be with him when he took his last breath. That was a blessing too.

Thankful. Happy birthday in Heaven, Dad!!  Peace & hugs!!

  1. I know your dad was proud of his family too. Although he had a job he didn't like, he was lucky to have had some years doing what he enjoyed doing. Happy birthday to your dad in Heaven.

  4. I can relate to missing your Dad so very much. My Mother died when she was 61 of a heart attack. We had a wonderful life and I treasure those days. I know your Dad is proud of you and as he loved Florida so much, he is happy you are living there. Have a blessed day my friend.

  5. Such a sweet tribute to your dad. No matter how long it has been since they left us, it still hits us like a wave sometimes. I am struggling with my first holiday since mama passed this year. Her birthday (which she shares with my dad) is in January. Gonna be just as hard. Remember the good times with your dad.

  6. Teri, so sweet to have been with your dad in those last years and that he was able to enjoy the time with your mom and you and Joe. My parents did not live long enough to enjoy that. It was something I felt sad for them. Happy Birthday to your Dad.
