Some weeks Friday takes twice a long to get here (feels like it, anyway!).
My Thursday morning started with an MRI to check on that 'spot' the CT Scan picked up when I went to the ER two weeks ago. That isn't me in the picture, but that is exactly what the contraption looks like. I had to fast - no food OR water - for 4 hours before the scan. Happy they had me scheduled for 8:40 a.m. I'm not claustrophobic, but having your arms over your head for 30-40 minutes is brutal. I told them that was the worst for me. My shoulders were starting to cramp up and it was very uncomfortable.
I have an appointment next Tuesday to get results, so will be sure to fill you in then. I'm not worried and neither is my regular doctor. She thought the MRI was over-kill and an ultra sound made more sense. The urologist told me the ultra sound would most likely pick up the same thing the CT Scan did and we would have to do the MRI anyway, which is why he went right to the MRI. I have enough respect for cancer and finding things early that I didn't make a fuss about it (even though my co-pay is HIGH). ALWAYS better safe than sorry. If you search on the internet for kidney cancer, it clearly says that kidney cancer is usually only found early because it was caught with a CT Scan for something else. Early detection is always good. If that's what it is, we can and will deal with it.
Hoping my kidneys look normal and all of this was for nothing. Your prayers for the same are much appreciated!!

Sometimes the tests they order are overkill. But, I too would rather have a peace of mind when it comes to my health. We have a ridiculous high deductible and it makes us double think what is necesary and what is not. You have a great attitude here Terri on this.

Take every precaution and glad your doctor is doing all that. Praying for you that you receive a good report and if there is anything there, it is being healed. MRIs truly are something else. Have a good weekend free from worrisome thoughts that try to come your way.

ReplyDeleteI will definitely be praying for you in all this, Terri. You didn't mention the unbelievably loud banging and clanging and hammering sound inside that MRI machine. I had three MRIs within a few months this year and by the third one it was old hat. But the first time, sliding into that narrow little tube was pretty weird. God bless you, Terri.

DeleteI, too, am so happy your docs are taking all precautions. You're always in my prayers, but I'm sending up a few more for you right now. You're absolutely right about how early detection of kidney cancer is rare and happens while looking for something else. But early detection makes it curable. Praise the Lord.
ReplyDeleteI had to have an MRI some years ago because of a concern about MS. (It turned out ok) You're right about having your arms up, and it is a bit claustrophobic.
