A Patriotic Hodgepodge for Veterans' Day....

Joyce gives us the fun questions, we give the fun answers, then we hop back to her site to link up with all the other Hodgepodgers!  Join the fun!!

1. In two or three sentences tell us what Veteran's Day means to you? My dad and my husband both served in the U.S. Army and I know the sacrifices they made for the good of our great country. I grew up during the Vietnam War and saw many from my hometown go off to war what wasn't a war (including my first husband). To those who serve and have served, you have my utmost respect and thanks.

2. What's your favorite film with a patriotic theme woven into the story-line? The first one that comes to mind is "The Patriot" which takes us back to the great Revolution. There are many, though, like "Saving Private Ryan" which is a great movie and also a true story.

3. Flu shot-yes or no?
YES! If you answered no, do you plan to get a flu shot? If not, why not? Have you ever had the flu? I've had flu-like symptoms but have not been deathly sick with the flu, thank goodness. I've gotten annual flu shots for years and years and actually had two this year. The first was the standard that came out in September. The second was a new one that covers 13 kinds of flu - some super-duper vaccine that I was also happy to get just a couple of weeks ago. I believe in vaccinations.

4. I've seen lots of people posting pictures of their Christmas trees up and decorated. Many stores have had Christmas on display since well before Halloween. Red cups are back at
Starbucks, sans the holiday decor, and that has some people up in arms. What are your thoughts on all the holiday ruckus this second week of November? I long for the days when Thanksgiving was front-and-center after Halloween. I don't care about Starbucks and their red cups (which are only getting them lots of free publicity) and you won't find any Christmas decorations at our house until after Thanksgiving. Each to his/her own, but I prefer to keep Thanksgiving separate from the Christmas ruckus (and it has become a ruckus, unfortunately).

5. What 'critter' are you most afraid of encountering unexpectedly? An alligator. Why that one? Because they are fast, stronger than me and would like one of my limbs for lunch. No thanks!!

6. Do you like building things? I do, but it's been years. What's the last thing you 'built'? Probably dollhouse furniture for my Barbie in my grandpa's wood shop. That's how long it has been. I guess you could call my jewelry making "building" - I built a necklace, for instance, by arranging and layering the beads on the wires. Maybe that's more "crafting" than building.  I used to "build" wedding cakes when I had my little bakery.....does that count?  If so that was in 1989-1993.

7. In keeping with this month's theme of gratitude...what are you most grateful for that brings beauty to your daily life? Beauty? Walking into my workplace every weekday has me surrounded by beautiful artwork, so I am thankful for my job, in a place I love with coworkers who are also my friends.

8. Insert your own random thought here. If you missed my "thankful" blog yesterday, you missed my update about my MRI results, so I'll let you know with great JOY that the test shows no problems with any of my abdominal organs. The "spot" in question from the CT scan a few weeks ago didn't even show up on the MRI. Without naming each organ, just know each one is "normal", praise the Lord and thank you to all who offered prayers for me!! I have a family plagued by cancer, so this news was so good to hear. I even hugged the doctor.

Thanks to Joyce for another fun Hodgepodge.
Thank you for your visit today!
Peace & hugs.

  2. I chose The Patriot too for my movie. It makes me laugh, cry, feel, remember our history books and so much more. Not to mention great acting.

  5. Hello from your neighbor on Joyce's link. I agree totally with you about Thanksgiving. No decorations for Christmas at my house until we have celebrated Thanksgiving. Hope the rest of your week is good!!

  6. It's the same here with Christmas coming earlier every year - not that Thanksgiving is celebrated in Spain. The other day I was looking for rubbish bags which had lost their place to Christmas goodies. I finally found the bags. I enjoy crafting too, but building I don't. Have a good Wednesday.

  10. Those alligators are for sure scary creatures. I'll never forget that movie, Crocodile Dundee. Yikes. And you live in the land where you might actually see one. Teri, I am rejoicing with you over you test results. So happy that you came through that scary time.
The cartoon with the cows and the gator was funny.

  12. Well just like your family, my dad was in WW2 and my husband in the Viet Nam war. They believed enough to fight for our freedom - to make sure we have the freedoms promised to us in the US Constitution which Andy is studying now in his US Government Class. Thank them for their service.

  17. Good post. I don't think I could live anywhere that I might encounter an alligator. The foxes here usually keep their distance.

  18. I'm obviously running on fumes here this week, so a little delayed getting to the HP answers. I'm so glad your MRI came back clean. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and I try hard to keep my focus there until after that day.
