Saturday: 9

Feliz Navidad

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Feliz Navidad (1970)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1. "Feliz Navidad" is Spanish for "Merry Christmas." Can you wish us happy holidays in a language other than English or Spanish? Buon Natale (Italian)

2. According to ASCAP (the American Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers), this is one of the 20 most played holiday songs of the last 10 years. What's the most recent carol that you heard? I have Christmas music playing in my car, and all day yesterday, for my little luncheon, at home. I think I've heard them all....6 CDs in both players.

3. Which Christmas song do you hope you never hear again? Elvis' version of Blue Christmas makes my skin crawl.

4. This week's featured artist, Jose Feliciano, was honored to perform this song at the tree lighting ceremony at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. If you were to win a trip to our nation's capital, which sites would you visit? I lived there for 12 years, and our youngest son is still there. I still love to visit the Smithsonian Museums.

5. As a very young child, Jose taught himself to play the accordion. If you could suddenly, easily learn to play any instrument, which would you choose? Piano.

6. Jose says that hearing early 1950s rock on the radio made him want to become a singer. What's your favorite music genre? The only kinds of music I can't take for more than a couple of minutes is Rap and Opera. I listen to oldies more than any other kind, but also love lite jazz and R&B. Can't beat the old gospel music groups, and I do like old country (not the newer stuff). I have a couple of Jose's CDs. I like his music.

7. At 17, Jose had to drop out of school to help support his family. Too young to enter bars, he played guitar in coffee houses for tips. Have you ever worked a job where you regularly received gratuities? In high school, I worked two summers in an ice cream parlor and waited on customers. We made tips that mostly went right into the juke box when there were no customers.

8. Jose and wife Susan have been together for more than 40 years. Who is the happiest married couple you know? Since my folks are gone, I could say Joe and me...almost 30 years!!

9. Jose wrote and performed the theme of the 1970s show, Chico and the Man. What's your current favorite TV show? We watch so many it's hard to name just one. We are really into Scorpion right now, though, and love Revenge. Downton Abbey will be back in January!!

My little party went great yesterday. I had such a good time with my girlfriends. They arrived around 11:30 and the last two left at 3:00.

Terry, Shirley, Cindee, Me, Heather, and Melody

The Red Velvet cake I made for dessert

 Snacks for before lunch.

The table set. Yes...I used paper plates!

I am writing this to post before leaving for the staff Christmas party, so will have photos of that for another time.  Thanks for coming by!!  Peace & blessings!

  1. Wow, Terri. I always learn so much more about you through these memes. I can't imagine how you can NOT like Elvis' Blue Christmas....it's one of my favorites. The one I can't take is Jingle Bell Rock....arghh.....man, do I hate that song. I do like jazz, too, but the "standards" types (like, Bobby Troup) more than the Kenny G types. Have a great weekend, Sweetie. Mwah

  5. Yes, everything looks lovely. Can't wait to try your mother's special icing. When I saw that this week's song was Feliz Navidad, I couldn't help but think of some of the mondegreens for the song like 'Fleas on your dog' or 'police car ahead.

Enjoy your evening with family and friends.

  9. First off, that Blue Christmas....yes indeed. I so agree. Of course, this time of year the repetition of the Carols gets a bit grinding on the nerves when you hear 'em in the huge crowds.

You even had time to BAKE a Red Velvet Cake?!!! I am beyond impressed. Looks like a grand time had by all.
