Hodgepodge 200!! Wow!!

The Bicentennial aka Volume 200

This week marks the 200th edition of the Wednesday Hodgepodge! In honor of that I'm going to host a fun little giveaway on 'this side of the pond', but you'll need to check back tomorrow for all the details. Today is Tuesday, and like the 199 Tuesdays prior to this one, it's just the questions today.

Here we go-

1. What is something in your life right now that feels a little 'hodgepodge'?  My living room is a hodgepodge of Christmas decorations, right now. I need to get motivated to finish and get the boxes back to the attic!

2. What does 'peace on earth, goodwill to men' mean to you?  Well, this could take awhile, to really get into a discussion, but my short answer would be that I think it means exactly what it says - we should strive for peace on earth, and goodwill to all people.  Since that is more or less a pipe dream, we should at least be applying the sentiment to those around us all the time.  Treat others as you would want to be treated.

3. Which edible treat you are most looking forward to sampling this December? Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday meal, and there aren't many edible Christmas traditions that tempt me, other than my mom's recipe for red velvet cake, with her special buttery icing (so much better than cream cheese icing).  A red velvet cake mix works fine, as long as it has her icing on it!  Of course, mom is no longer here, so it's up to me to make it.

4. It's that most wonderful time of the year...do you agree, and if so why is it so wonderful?  If not, what would you say is the most wonderful time of the year?  I think the song refers to the fact that kids are better behaved, with Santa looming, and that families tend to gather and share love.  But any time families can gather and share love is a wonderful time of year.  The older we get, the more important family becomes.

5. What was the last word you looked up in a dictionary (actual or online) and why?  I can't remember the word, specifically. I do look words up now and then, but am more likely to use the thesaurus than a dictionary.

6. Besides a Christmas tree, what is your favorite thing to decorate this time of year?  Probably the packages I wrap for loved ones. I try to make them pretty, and special (except the ones that get mailed - not as pretty).

7. Share one thing you've learned (about yourself, people, or anything at all) in the Wednesday Hodgepodge, or through blogging in general.  I always look forward to Hodgepodge answers on the blogs I am connected to here!  I've noticed that we tend to "hang" with people who have similar beliefs, and Hodgepodge highlights that, since many of us answer the same on so many of the questions.  I blogged on Yahoo360 and then Multiply before moving to Blogger. The friendships formed here are true friendships. I care about everyone I'm connected to here, and feel the love right back.  I've also been blessed to meet many of you in person, and look forward to continuing that in the future! There are such good people here!!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.  I want to thank Joyce for 200 Hodgepodges!! I've not been here for all 200, but am happy to have found Joyce and this great meme!! It is something I look forward to each week.  Thank you, Joyce!! Thank you.

  2. I don't remember if I met you on the Hodgepodge or not, but I've sure enjoyed our friendship, Terri. I also enjoyed your #4 answer. Joyce has been a great facilitator of blog friendships!!

  3. My utility room is a "hodgepodge" of boxes - fall decorations being put away, and boxes of Christmas ones open, stacked wedding boxes for our daughter's April wedding. I bought 150 mason jar mugs on sale (inscribed with their names & wedding date) and they take up a lot of room in there! lol Yes - thanks to Joyce for all the work she does organizing HP each week!

  4. Like you, I tend to take more effort with the local gifts as opposed to the mailed ones. Practicality takes over, right?! I liked your comments about how much you enjoy the Hodgepodge. We do have a sense of community that is a blessing every week.

  5. This time of year is as exciting as we make it. We dont buy as many gifts as we used to, but our family has grown so much, we all agreed to downsize the # and cost of gifts. We have a very small tree on top of the mantel because of our new kitty, we couldnt put one on the floor. Our children all have big trees tho, and we can enjoy them, when we go to their houses.
Hope your Wednesday is a good day.

  9. I love decorated presents. Some say why bother because it just gets ripped apart but I say there is nothing like a well decorated box :)
It is nice to be back to the Hodgepodge after a long break. I've missed everyone's posts.

  10. Just hearing about that Red Velvet cake makes my mouth water :)
I used to love wrapping and decorating Christmas presents, too, but gift bags have sort of spoiled me!
I feel the same way as you on #7. I'm enjoying getting to know you better, as time goes on!

  11. My living room is not a hodgepodge of decorations, because I have not started yet! Hopefully this weekend. I do love Christmas because of the music and and all the beauty of decorations and lights. When my tree is up and I put on my Christmas CDs I feel so much peace.

  12. It's the time of year when I'm busier than usual and probaly eating too much. How I love your answer to number 2! As I haven't started decorating yet, I have things scattered about too. As for what treat I'm looking forward to, I hope our turkey is a good one.
    Happy Friday Eve

  13. Oh yeah! I didn't think about wrapping the packages! That is a fun thing to do this time of year. I hope to get a tree up this weekend and two wreathes. That's all I'm doing this year and, if I don't get them up this weekend, they're not going up at all. And yes, I am stomping my feet. LOL
