Good morning! I'm trying to be up-beat about my Thanksgiving 'cloud nine' dropping to 'cloud eight'. We talked with #2 son, Jeff, last night for over an hour. He can't get away for Thanksgiving, but has locked in a visit during my birthday week, next month. He has worked for Safeway stores, for 29 years. They are open every holiday and getting off for one is just next to impossible. On top of that, he is trying to move to a new store. Jeff has been a Deli Manager and a Meat Manager for Safeway. He is trying to get Meat Manager in a different store, so didn't want to push for extra time off. I'm very sad, but it is what it is. We just don't get both of our boys, together, with us much anymore.
I hope my sister and her husband are able to get the time off. Tammy was pretty sure she could get the time, but is wasn't locked in yet, last time we talked. I'm hoping to stay on 'cloud 8' and still be able to put the extra extension in the dining room table. I like it when my dining room table has to be extra long!
Guess I can be glad I haven't purchased a 25 pound bird yet.... (sighing).
So, I have picked a few throwback photos to share today:
This is the meat market that supported the D'Orsaneo family, and is where Joe had to work (hard) before and after school, and on weekends. That is his mom and dad, and their dalmatian, Jack, in front of the door.
Tristan and his great-grandma (Joe's mom), during Christmas 1999. She died just a few days later.
After Joe's dad died, Mom moved in with Joe's younger brother and family. We brought her to Florida for two or three months, in the winters. We got to enjoy her company and Nick and Debbie got a little break. This isn't a great photo of Joe or his mom, because the sun is in their eyes, but we tried to get out and do things with her, while she visited. I sure did love her, and I still miss her. She was great fun, and was an amazing cook. Homemade pasta, gnocchi, biscotti.... oh my!! She sure did spoil me when she was here, and left the freezer full, for us, before she went back to Pennsylvania.
We have a busy three days at the Museum. Today is our Wearable Art event (artists who make jewelry, paint scarves, make purses, etc.); at 2:00, we will have Tea at 2:00; and at 6:00 we have our annual Holiday Soiree. The two events are to bring in people for the Wearable Art artists. We always have a nice crowd, all day long. Tomorrow night is Art+Music, and the theme is 1950s. Two bands will be playing 'rockabilly' music. It will be a fun event. Saturday, all day, is the Art Crawl. We made the cover of the Time Out section of our newspaper today. HERE is the link.
Enjoy your Friday Eve!! Thanks for stopping by. Peace & blessings!

If you lived nearer we could have Thanksgiving together - it will just be the four of us! lol
ReplyDeleteI would love that!!
DeleteIt's always sad when they can't make it home for a holiday, but when it's work related all you can do is support them. Hope you get that extra leaf in your table too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice post and throw back Thursday. So sorry about your son not making it for Thanksgiving. I'm finding like you, it's so hard when they're on their own to get them together under one roof at one time.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet memory of your Mom-in-Love. Sounds like a really nice Thanksgiving even though not all of the family can make it. I know all will be there in spirit.
ReplyDeleteI know what a letdown it is when the family can't all be there. As for the turkey, our son bought a 27# turkey. I have no idea what he thinks he's going to do with a 27# turkey, for they're not having anyone in at Thanksgiving. I think he's going to be eating turkey sandwiches into February. LOL Your mother in law sounds like a wonderful woman - and a spectacular and generous cook! I miss so many in the generation ahead of me. :-(
ReplyDeleteHope your Thanksgiving plans don't suffer any more changes! I hope your wonderful mother-in-law shared some of her recipes with you. Thanks for sharing such sweet memories with us. Happy Friday Eve!
ReplyDeleteHave a memorable Thanksgiving and happy birthday in advance! Old photos have certain nostalgic effect, don't they?
ReplyDeleteToo bad about your son but I do wish him the best with the transfer. I enjoyed your old photos today and the story of your mil. Hope the activities go well today.
ReplyDeleteIt is too bad that your son cant make it, but hopefully he will get the new job and next year he can come. The museum will be buzzing this weekend for sure. Enjoy it all.
ReplyDeleteJumping up and down, OM Gosh!!!!!! I grew up not far from Silver Springs!!!!!!--Terri, look at the bright side....you have Joe....and if no one shows up or your party slims down, you have each other. I am so envious (well..not the right word)...it will be just us 3--family issues. I would love to have friends and family over, your welcomed anytime. Blessings
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy Thanksgiving! It's hard here too to get all the family together at once. I think our oldest and his family will be here and our daughter and son in law..and of course our youngest who is in college yet. the others we'll have to visit another time this year. The museum you work for sounds awesome. I'd love to see sometime
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving. I know how it feels when children can't come home for the holidays because of work. It happens very often here but as parents we can only pray they get what they want. By the way I like your fondness for your MIL
ReplyDeleteWhat great photos! I can totally see Joe in his mom. She sounded like a sweet person. That's a bummer that your son isn't able to get the time off for Thanksgiving but how nice that he will be able to spend your birthday with you! I hope you get good news soon that your sister was able to get the time off.
ReplyDeleteI so understand the problems surrounding the Thanksgiving family gathering, but we have a bigger family so there are usually enough to need a long table.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the throwback pictures. Where in PA?
