Sunday Seven....

Sunday Seven.... not a Meme (I made it up), but here goes:

Rule #1, keep the cables in your trunk!

We left church last night, after the 4:00 Vigil Mass, only to find the battery in my car was dead.  You know that clicking sound you hear when you turn the key....that was it.  No advance warning. Friends were coming out as Joe started back in, to find someone who could give us a jump. They came to the rescue with cables (mine were in the garage, instead of in my car) and the organist, who was parked next to us, came out right after and she let us use her car to get mine started. We drove right to Advance Auto, and they put the new battery in for us (free labor!) and we were home only 45 minutes later than usual. Blessed that it happened in the church parking lot, and not somewhere else. Blessed to have dear friends who came to our rescue!

We checked the calendar and determined that there is no way we can get away to visit our son and daughter-in-law, in Georgia, during the week Joey is off work. Bummed, but we are looking at the first week in December as a possibility.  Doctor appointments and a three-day event at the Museum made it impossible for Veteran's Day week. I am so looking forward to being retired someday. Seriously.

Our painter (Don) came by yesterday morning, to give us an estimate to paint the outside of our house for us. He is going to do it this coming weekend. We need to get the paint this week (he said 20 gallons).  Our handyman (Sam) is coming on Tuesday to fix the fascia board. We are also going to get new hardware for the doors.  (I'm doing my best to keep Joe off ladders!)

We also have a friend (DeWayne) who we are going to call this week to do some landscaping work for us.  I guess the outside of the house will look great for our Thanksgiving company!!  And our boys, who usually end up doing heavy work for us when they visit, can enjoy their time with us instead, this time!

I did some lite cleaning yesterday, while Joe pressure washed the driveway. The inside of the house looks presentable, as long as you don't look too closely at the corners.  I'll be doing some major cleaning over the next few weeks, before company comes.

Speaking of pressure washing, Joe got a new toy at Lowe's that made the pressure washing go so fast! It is called a surface cleaner, by Briggs and Stratton. It attaches to the pressure washer nozzle and covers 14 inches at a time. It took nearly four hours to pressure wash the driveway, before, but right at 1-1/2 hours today, with his new toy. Wow!!

Joe was at Sam's Club last week, and brought home some beautiful strawberries. I ate some with yogurt, for lunch, a couple of days, but decided to make a Bisquick shortcake last night, to enjoy with the rest of the strawberries. Some milk and whipped cream.....yummy!

I hope it has been a good weekend for you! Thanks for stopping by! Laundry is the only thing on my list for today.  Peace & blessings!

  2. Glad you were at church where someone could help. It is always a worry to think you are out on the highway somewhere, and the car dies. You must really be ready for retirement...you have mentioned it several times lately. I remember back when I did, and oh it was such a relief. I will tell you tho, it takes some getting used to and revising your daily schedules.

  3. Glad someone had jumper cables and you were able to get battery replaced. Mmmm I love strawberries. The rest of my family doesn't. I haven't had strawberry shortcake in years. Mmmm. Have a great week!

  4. What a blessing to be in a safe place when your battery failed. I'll have to tell John about the pressure washer attachment. Your strawberries sound delicious. Happy to hear you are getting things lined up for the exterior painting and landscaping. Have a lovely day.

  5. Your dead battery reminds me of what happened to my sister's car a couple of days before my flight back. We'd been to Newport, KY and Cincinnati, and on the return trip the car suddenly lost power and didn't want to climb hills. At first my sister thought it was her husband, who was driving, playing around, but there was something really wrong with the car. Thankfully we were able to make it home and the next day she took it to the garage and they fixed whatever the problem was.

I'm a gadget fan too, especially if it makes your work easier. Your house is going to be like new!

  6. I hate when something goes wrong with a vehicle. Thank you for commenting on my Sunday Stealing - you know you can do it anytime, right? Even like, right now, middle of the day on Sunday! LOL.

Good luck with all of the home repairs and sprucing up.

  7. While we were doing Trunk or Treat last Wednesday at church, my friend kept the dome light on so the kids could see inside the "Three Bears Cottage." Her battery went out too and I walked around the parking lot looking for someone with jumper cables. What I discovered was there is something called a jumper box and you don't even need another car to get your car going. How cool is that?

    1. Nonnie....we have one of those too, also in the garage!! How idiotic is that, to not have things where you need them?! You DO have to keep that little box charged, though - another problem! Ha!

  8. If you have to have a dead battery, you picked the right time to do it.
Sounds like an expensive time at your house, but the house will look great!

  9. That truly was a blessing with your car battery going dead at the church. I wish you all the best keeping Joe off a ladder, I try that with my Gene but once in awhile he insists he needs to be on a ladder...at 87 I figure not! It is going to be very busy at your place for awhile but it is going to look really nice when it is all done I bet. Hugs
