Happy Friday!! Whoohooo!

Front Porch Chat 147

Everyday Ruralty

From Patrice:  Hello! You are such faithful chatters! It makes me happy to see you participate in this chat, after 146 chats. That's a lot of talking. I appreciate all of your patience and understanding as I do not always comment. Frankly, I'm swamped. I guess many of you understand how life can be overwhelming sometimes. I care about my chat friends. Thank you for standing by me.
I know many areas got some of the storm last week, but we have been bone dry until last night. It's sad to see an entire field of corn shrivel up. We got some rain last night and are expecting some this evening. Unfortunately, it often comes with rumbling in the sky, which sends a small, paranoid dog of ours off the deep end. She is terrified of storms. Fourth of July was bad enough, but weather is a constant. To be so afraid. Sad :(. I had a perspective last week. I saw something on Facebook about respecting combat veterans with fireworks. I cannot imagine what someone with Post Traumatic Stress must feel when they hear fireworks. A person's home should be their refuge, not a reminder of war. Just saying...
 Today's Questions:
  1. Do you like cucumbers? Is there a favorite way for you to prepare them?  I love cucumbers, and so does Joe. We eat them in salads, but I also like to make them with onions, in cider vinegar with a little sweetener. I can also just eat a cucumber, and used to just pick one from the garden and munch on it (when I was a kid).
  2. How good a housekeeper are you?  I'm a good housekeeper. There is always cat hair to be found, but I clean once a week, keep the dishes done up and clutter under control.
  3. Please finish this: To spend a day reading; visiting with family; reading at the beach; flying to Italy again; need I go on?  would be amazing!
  4. How do you handle times when you are "down" or "blue"( depressed )?  I am so rarely down or blue, that I can't remember the last time. Probably 11 years ago, when my brother died of cancer. You just get through it and get on with life. I was blue, but it didn't get me down. There is a difference.
  5. Have you started using essential oils, since they have become so popular?  Years ago, I had a friend who was really into essential oils, and I purchased some from her. When I ran out, I didn't rush out to get more, though I do miss Tea Tree Oil. Probably should get some again. My friend moved away, so I need to find some on line.
Thanks for stopping by today!  I wish you a good Friday and weekend!  Blessings!

  1. I enjoyed your answers to Patrice's questions this week, Terri! Just a suggestion...but if you have a GNC store in your area you could find the Tea Tree oil there. Also Vitacost.com has good prices on their essential oils. That is normally where I order mine for my DIY cleaning supplies as well as the soaps I make. If I run out and am in a pinch I go to GNC.

  3. Ah, but you have used essential oils. In my soaps. :-) this was an interesting post. I think I handle difficult times much the same as you do. But my house tends to be tidy but still areas of clutter. If I ever get this back issue worked out, I'll be able to tackle the bigger projects. I hope you have a pleasant weekend, Terri. xo

    1. My kitchen is always "cluttered" because I have to store so much on the counters. I need a big pantry/closet for my kitchen clutter.

    1. Kim, I am definitely NOT OCD when it comes to cleaning and clutter, but it does start to get to me if I haven't done it for a week. I'm sure running a business out of your home makes it hard to ever feel like you have climbed out from under it all. How exciting, though, to have a successful business you can do from home!

  7. I've heard a lot about essential oils but I really don't understand how they work, I'd like to learn more about them sometime.

    1. Mari, there is a wealth of information about then on-line. Tea Tree oil is so soothing on rashes or bug bites. It has a strong scent that is not necessarily pleasant, but it works!

  8. I have a recipe for cucumber salad that I'm going to try, but I always put cucumber in gazpacho. Some people make a version of it without cucumber - not I. Cucumber is really cooling. I love essential oils and have quite a few. Some of them I've ordered through my local chemist's/drugstore.
Hope your day is going well.

  9. Great answers. I like cucumbers, but my stomach doesn't. Lori, my #2 daughter, who is a massage therapist, uses essential oils on some of her clients at the spa. Hope you have a good weekend.

  11. I actually cleaned the laundry room today. I had thought about it three times in the past week but it was too overwhelming. I had heard that you're supposed to take everything out and then put back only what you need. I couldn't bear the thought of two rooms being a total mess during the process, so I just took a bag in there and started tossing things I've not used in a year. It now looks so much better. I'm going to tackle the back closet next week. I hope. I want things to look better before our daughters are home for a reunion. :-)

    1. I think the best way is to tackle one room or area at a time, just the way you did it. It is less overwhelming than trying to do the entire house at once, that's for sure!

  13. Hello dear one....I'm feeling a bit better this morning so I thought I'd stop by and say hello and happy weekend.

I swear you and I are so much alike in life and our way of looking at things. Your answer to #4 could be me echoing the very thoughts.

  14. Last year I made Refrigerator Pickles for the first time with cucs from my garden. So yummy that way. I love cucumbers but have gotten spoiled with the fresh taste of homegrown. You could probably get Tea Tree oil at a local health or natural store too.

  15. I kinda cheat on the Refrigerator pickles sometimes, Dawn....When I run out of store-bought, I'll slice some cukes in the leftover juice and get a second jar of my faves.
Gotta say, I love your answer to #4 Terri.
