I posted on Facebook yesterday that Onyx got a good report at the Vet!! He has gained a pound, in just a week, which is wonderful! Dr. Dunham was pleased with his progress and we don't have to take him back for another visit, as long as he continues to thrive. Hooray! All the prayers and positive energy sent his way last week, worked! Thank you!
I am posting a few more old photos. Again there is no rhyme or reason. Just bear with me!
This is Domenick and Rosella. They were Joe's first wife's parents. I was so blessed that they accepted me into the family when Joe and I were married. Joe's first wife and the mother of Joey and Jeff, died of brain cancer. It was (of course) a hard thing for all of them to experience. Rose actually started calling me her 'adopted daughter', which was an honor I did not take lightly. They came to the United States, from Italy, as did Joe's folks. Joe and Loretta knew each other from the time they were kids. Close, Italian immigrant families stuck together. Joe's folks had the meat market, and Rose & Dom had a neighborhood grocery store. I will offer that Loretta helped pave the way for me to be in Joe's life. She told everyone that she wanted him to find someone to love and to marry again, so to trust him. I think she and I would have liked each other, had we ever met.
This is my Grandpa Kelly, when he was a very young man. I think it's great that these look like photo-booth photos that we still have taken today!
Above and below - I threw Joe a surprise 50th birthday party (1987). We had a house full of friends, and I asked everyone to bring something that is older than Joe (or represents something older than Joe). You can just see the head of a blow-up dinosaur on the table beside him. What made him laugh so hard was a can of Spam, which turned 50 that year, too, and the can actually said 50 years old! That was his favorite gift!
This is a photo of my parents. Probably in the mid-80s, is my guess. I just love it. The evergreen tree they are standing in front of was a tree I planted when I was in the Blue Birds, for Arbor Day. Dad dug them up (there were two) and moved them with us when we moved to this house. They thrived in our front yard, and got decorated for Christmas each year. Sadly, they are gone now (as are my folks).
I like this photo of the four of us, sitting on the fireplace hearth for our first Christmas together (1985). Me (see that cast on my arm, explained in a previous blog), Joe, Joey and Jeff. I am such a lucky girl!! Count my blessings daily!
Thanks for stopping by! I wish you a good Thursday! Be blessed!

I really enjoyed your pictures today. You are truly blessed. Glad to hear the good report on Onyx too.
ReplyDeletePS - I love your new look here too!
Thanks, Mari!
DeleteIt is fun to 'look back' and remember those happy times isnt it? Enjoyed these pictures and I am sure Joe's family is thankful to have you as much as you are thankful for them. Hope you have a good Thursday. Give Onyx a pat for me!
ReplyDeleteOnyx will be happy to have a pat from you, Linda.
DeleteI'll speak for Onyx when I say he's glad he doesn't have to go back to the vet's, and let's hope he doesn't for a long time. What wonderful photos! Who thought of bringing a can of Spam and did you eat it? I never liked it very much, just like I don't like it in my inbox. I think both you and Joe are lucky to have each other. It's almost Friday!
ReplyDeleteBrenda, I don't remember if we ate the Spam, or not. I would guess that I might have sliced it and fried it...we ate it at home, when I was growing up (now and then). I didn't mind it, fried, for breakfast, or on a sandwich. Lots of sodium, though! Whew!
DeleteGreat pics! I'm so glad Onyx is doing better. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kim. You too!
DeleteI so love looking at yours and other photos. Great pics. Glad Onyx is doing better. Thanks for the smiles. Blessings
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting, Linda!
DeleteGood news about Onyx, hope he continues to get better and will be all good very soon. I really do enjoy your pictures. Hope you have a great day sweet Terri. Hugs and give Onyx nose kisses for us
ReplyDeleteWishing you a good day, too, Maggie! Nose kisses - a must!
DeleteWonderful stories to go with your pictures - - - especially about his first wife - - their families' long relationship and his first mother-in-law accepting you like another daughter. Precious. Just think - - - one day - - our children and/or grandchildren will post our pics - - - as "old" photos. Hopefully with as many wonderful memories!
ReplyDeleteI hope so, too, Lynda!
DeleteWhat great memories. You know how much work it is to dig up pine trees, that speaks volumes as to how much your daddy loved you, Kiddo. What a great family your Joe has, and what a wonderful woman Loretta must have been. Thanks for sharing all these pix, Terri. Happy Thursday :)
ReplyDeleteKaren, they were very slow-growing pine trees. They were very small, still, when they got moved. He also moved a cutting of the ivy that was on their wedding cake. It grew at each home we lived in.
DeleteWhat a sweet and romantic guy! What a special way to care and honor a marriage, huh.
DeleteMom had a columbine (that grew in her mother's garden) that she moved with her everywhere she lived, as well. When she passed, I went out to that columbine and gathered the seeds. Unfortunately, the plants that I grew from those seeds got pulled up by an overzealous weeding husband a few years later...sigh. Sigh.
Great images....and I must say I think the series of Kelly [grandpa] was a mighty fine looking gentleman...so dapper.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are wonderful and I love that your shared them. How wonderful for your husbands first wife's parents to take you in. That was a huge blessing.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this post and meeting different people from your and Joe's families. You have been blessed by many. I know you miss your parents very much.
ReplyDeleteThat is the best idea I've ever heard for a birthday party for those of a certain age! :) Maybe I'll do that for someone soon. LOVED this post!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing so much of your life with us in all your TBT family photo posts! It's fun to see and read. I love that your folks dug up the trees to bring to your new house. It's fun when you have something like that to compare size and age over the years. And good ol' Minnesota SPAM brought some laughs!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear of the good report on Onyx! And Terri, I just love this post. So much love and family and wonderful acceptance when you became part of Joe's life. Beautiful!
ReplyDeletei am not sure why I enjoy your family history so much. Is It because I am getting older or because your have such a fascinating life, or am I a voyeur........
