A Racing Hodgepodge #184!!

Happy Hump Day and thanks to Joyce, From This Side of the Pond, for another great Hodgepodge!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 184

Here are the questions to this week's Hodgepodge...answer on your own blog, then hop back here tomorrow to link up with the world wide webbers.  See you there!

1. "Summer is like childhood. It's full of warm memories and gone too soon."~Kellie Elmore  Agree or disagree? Share something you loved about the summers of your childhood.  Ah, the freedom of my younger years, for sure. Barefoot and outside playing all day. I had a platform-like tree house in the big maple tree, in our backyard. I would climb up there with a book and be happy for hours. During high school, I worked in the summers, but the jobs weren't that bad and I still had time for the beach and boating with friends. Songs on the jukebox, first loves.....

2. Are you a fan of auto racing-NASCAR, Indy, Stock, Grand Prix, etc? Ever been to a race in person? Any desire to do this?  Do you know a lot about cars? Do you notice particular makes and models when you're out and about?  I am not a NASCAR or racing fan and have never been to a race in person. I do have an uncle who is crazy about it, though. I can change a tire, check the oil, put in washer fluid and know what different sounds mean. My dad made me learn a lot of that before I could take the family car out on my own - bless him.  I notice Land Rovers because I want one (when I win the lottery!). I notice classic cars, and also want a 1956 turquoise t-bird - when I win that lottery! Cars today all look the same. My Kia Sportage is almost a twin to my friend's Lexus SUV. Seriously. How can you tell the difference, unless you know the logo/symbols, and are close enough to see those little things?

3. What's something you think is too serious to be joked about? Or do you think anything and everything is fair game? Jokes about politics are fine - especially when it's not about my party affiliation. Jokes about me are okay, but jokes about other people are usually not funny and border on bullying. I don't like jokes about my religious beliefs (or others' beliefs). I DO like a funny joke, though. Jay Leno-style. No bad words and all in good fun. People who think bad language makes for a funnier joke have it all wrong.

4. July 29th is National Lasagna Day. Are you a fan? Do you have a great recipe, and if so where did it come from? If given a choice would you choose a plate of lasagna or a plate of spaghetti?  I LOVE lasagna and anything Italian. It's the sauce that makes the pasta, and Joe's mom taught me to make good sauce (gravy, at our house). There isn't a recipe - you just have to watch and taste. Given a choice, I would probably take spaghetti. I like to twirl it against a spoon. It just seems more "Italian" to eat spaghetti.

5. What's a simple pleasure you'd miss if it were not a regular part of your life?  Coffee. Ice Cream.

6. If you could be the CEO of any company, which would you choose?  Being the CFO is enough for me. CEO's have way too much responsibility. If you make me choose, it would be a non-profit, not a big for-profit company. I would want to do good in a community by providing a needed service.

7. August is just around the bend...bid farewell to July in exactly seven words.  I'll not miss your heat and humidity. (...but August will be just as bad)

8. Insert your own random thought here. Just having trouble wrapping my head around the fact that it is almost August. That, and our youngest grandson will be a senior in high school this year.  We really need to enjoy life each day, because the days soon turn into years, seemingly over night, and we wonder where the time has gone. Weeks go by, with us waiting on Friday and the weekend, then complaining about Monday mornings....cherish those Mondays!! (Remind me, when I post about dreading Mondays!!) Precious, precious time.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, and for your comments! Peace, love, blessings & hugs!

  1. MY youngest grandson graduated high school this last May. And he enters college for legal major in August. Wow.

I could really relate to your answer #1. And cars....yes, I agree no matter what make and model they all look alike. You're the 2nd one this morning that I read coffee is a simple pleasure. Bud would say the same, but not me...I don't 'do' coffee.

  2. If a car runs, I am happy, otherwise, I am not interested in racing. Teasing is one thing...bullying is another and wrong, wrong, wrong. It is flying by and you are right, we need to slow down, enjoy each single day. This year my youngest grandchild will start 1st grade and my oldest will be a Jr. in high school. They were all just born yesterday - what happened to time? Gotta have that coffee! Happy Hump Day dear friend.

  3. I've heard it called gravy up here sometimes too. I say sauce though : ) I feel like our July was the most relaxed and unscheduled month we've had in a very long time. We've got another full month of summer up here and I plan to relish the time. I do love the fall, my favoritie season, but I am not ready to think about winter yet.

  4. Time certainly does go by speedy quick. I've tried so hard to slow it down but it just keeps on going. I've heard a couple of people call sauce, 'gravy.' Here, gravy is the sauce that goes on mashed potatoes or rice or biscuits. LOL Have a great day!

    1. Growing up in the mid-west, gravy was brown or white. Growing up in an Italian family, in Philly - gravy is red. I had to learn to say brown gravy, if it goes on potatoes.

  5. We say sauce but my Italian friend growing up always said gravy. I can't believe July is almost over. It went by fast. Have a great day!

  13. The other day my brother-in-law, who is a rail fan, posted lots of photos of trains. In some of them I think there must have been a car repair place beside the tracks, because there were lots of old cars. I saw a 1957 or 58 Chevy. I love old cars too. I love Italian food too. Thinking about that is making me hungry and I'm going to the Chinese in a bit. Enjoy the rest of your hump day.

  14. It really is amazing how quickly they grow up, isn't it. And I've noticed that things I think were a couple years ago turn out to be more like 5 years ago. Time flies! Enjoyed your Hodgepodge and those posters at the end. So true! I love the Land Rover (but do not own one), but I'd like to own one of those old English touring buses from the 1930s (that I see on Miss Marple.) :-)

  15. Time surely does go by too quickly, especially summer! I liked your answers, especially #1. I also liked your joke answer. I really dislike listening to most comedians because of their awful language.

  16. A tree house....how awesome was that!!! Your random is what I think about all the time. I want to seize each moment. I do envy your grandchildren. My sister has 4 and the two oldest are going to college. I have to trust in God's plan for me but I would love to have one. I wanted to be a younger grandmother :)

  17. Hi Terri, You and I have a lot in common - coffee, ice cream and childhood memories of reading in a tree!

  18. Coffee and a little ice cream together sounds good. I had to laugh about the jokes being more funny when they're not about your party affiliation! I dated an Italian guy for a while and he taught me how you swirl the spaghetti against the spoon. I never knew that.
