I love starting my Saturdays without an alarm clock buzzing! I actually think I sleep better, knowing I don't have to get up until I want to. Awesome.
We had some excitement in the neighborhood yesterday morning, that turned out to be sad news. When I left the house, for work, there were three police cars at our neighbor's house, across the street and at the corner. I called Joe from the car, and told him to see if he could find out what is going on.
We have known Al & Sheila since before they moved into the neighborhood. As I expected, Al had died. Their son, Al Jr., is a good friend of ours, too, and called Joe to let us know his dad had died. Al Jr. was a Sheriff's deputy at one time, and well known in the law enforcement circles. The three police cars arrived at the house, when they heard the call, because they all know the family.
I talked with Sheila on the phone last night. She said Al got up at his usual 3:30ish and went to the kitchen. She stayed in bed. The dog came in and woke her up around 5:00, whimpering. She got up to let the dog out, and Al was sitting at the kitchen table, slumped over. She called 911 and it all went from there. He was 86 years old and had not been doing well lately. Sheila seems to be doing okay. She is 20 years younger than Al, and in good health. She said the officers all hugged her and one gave her his cell phone number, in case she needed something. She has a good friend staying with her, and their two sons are going with her, today, to get funeral arrangements made. Always a sad time.
So, after a sad morning, I took yesterday afternoon off, from work, and Joe and I went to the movies. I felt like I was playing hookey. We saw "Jersey Boys" and loved it. The Four Seasons made some beautiful music and the story of how they came to be is very interesting, even though a bit sad, too. The music was great. We've not been able to afford tickets for the stage production, so I was happy to get to see the movie.
Afterwards, we stopped at PDQ for some chicken tenders and waited out a rain storm before going to Publix for some groceries.
Now, I am into my vegetative mode, looking at all I need to do and not doing it. It's Saturday. I'll need to get moving, to get to church, at 4:00.
My sister sent this to me! Loved it!!
Wishing you a good weekend!! Thanks for stopping by!

Sad about your friend and neighbor. Prayers for her comfort at this time. You need to be as lazy as you want to be. The house work will be there tomorrow and even the day after! Always love Aunty Acid cartoons...she hit the nail on the head!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad discovery to make at any time. I'm sorry for your neighbor, but am glad she is surrounded by people who are helping her.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Saturday. Except for the regular chores around the house, we have been pretty lazy around here ever since we returned from vacation. You should enjoy the down time while you can.
I have been retired for a few years, but my internal alarm clock still goes off in me each morning!
Awww..that is so sad..deepest condolences. It is good to play hookie at times..love Aunty Acid. Blessings
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your neighbour. We've had some different excitement near where I live - actually in my friend Cathy's neighbourhood. Some presumed Islamic terrorists were arrested.
ReplyDeleteSo sad about your neighbor. Prayers for her and the family. Heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteBeen thinking of going to see the Jersey Boys, but the play is coming here this winter and maybe will go then....would hate to have a spoiler.
Sorry to hear about your neighbor. I think that going that way is the best, but it's always shocking and hard on the family. (My Mom went that way at 69 - too young, but I see people lingerining and passing slowly and it's hard on everyone)
ReplyDeleteGlad you've enjoyed your Saturday. I love the skinny comic.
I am glad you took the afternoon off yesterday and went on a date with Joe. One thing we are all realizing more each day is to cherish the time with our loved ones cuz it's getting much shorter than we want. That cartoon is great!!! Too bad it doesn't work. LOL
ReplyDeleteSorry about your friend.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if Jersey Boys was good. I would like to see it. They had so many hits.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend
I don't know if I sleep any better being retired but just not getting up until my body says it is time makes the start to the day have more energy. Did Clint Eastwood direct that film? I am glad you took a mental health break.
ReplyDeleteHow sad, Terri..I am so sorry I will keep Al's family in my prayers. We had a similar situation yesterday. Parked in front of our house was 2 fire trucks, an ambulance and 2 police cars. I could hear crying coming from our next door neighbors garage. I knew it my neighbor's dad had been ill and he passed away at home. It was really sad. I love mornings when I can sleep as late as I want! I wish there were more of them..lol. Enjoy your Sunday!
ReplyDeleteSo sad. My heart goes out to all of you for the loss. We had a very similar situation with our neighbor who was a good friend. He died in his sleep.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the heads up. I looked in the mirror and found out I was skinny too! Hope you have a great day.
I'm so sorry to hear about your neighbor!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to go see The Jersey Boys. Ed and I listened to the music of The Four Seasons while we were dating, and we still love it today. If I don't catch the movie in the theater, I'll definitely watch it on dvd. Thanks for the 'heads up' :)
By the way, it ruins my night's sleep when I have to set the alarm!
So sorry to hear about your friend.
ReplyDeleteI'm poking through everyone's blogs tonight, trying to catch up with all my friends. I'm so sorry about your friend that passed.
