Acorns....

In Florida, we know Fall is here when our yards start looking like this picture!  And ours does. They crunch under our tires as we back out of the drive-way and pull back in. They get tracked into the garage. They crunch under our feet! But the squirrels are in happy mode! They are taking as many as they can carry, up into the trees.  We have five Live Oak trees in our yard, all full of these 'acorns' (not sure they are really acorns, but that's what we all call them), and all full of squirrels!  It's September in central Florida.  The leaves will start shedding next, but our trees are never bare. The leaves shed, as a new leaf is pushing out. Always green on the limbs, and always brown on the ground.

Our temps are still in the 90s and we still have rain at least once a day. That won't end until mid-October, though the nights may become a little cooler.  I'm ready for that!

I enjoy everyone's blogs about apple orchards, canning the garden's bounty, and sweater weather.  I have no desire to move north, but I do fondly recall all that is being described by those of you who live north of the Mason Dixon Line. Thanks for the memories.

Back to work, and back to 'normal'.  I hope your September 3rd has been a good one!  Thanks for stopping by!  Peace, love & hugs.

  1. Your picture looks like fall to me too, except the nuts on our ground are walnuts! It hasnt really cooled down here enough to feel like fall, but it wont be long. I am so ready - not the freezing cold, but the fall cool. Hugs

  3. Wow - that's a lot of acorns. We had a whole yard that looked like that last year, but it seems better so far this year.

  4. Not sure if those are acorns either. The only ones I know have the brown bumpy cap on top of each.
You really should come back to Ohio. LOL Just teasing. Yesterday afternoon we had the A/C on. At 5:00pm we turned it off and opened the windows. At 9:00pm I stepped outside and wanted a sweatshirt on. At 8:00am this morning, the kids wore light jackets to school. It got down to 40° last night!! We'll be seeing the leaves falling before too long but the trees will remain empty until next March. :( Did that bring back memories? I wish I was in FL with you.

  5. I remember as a kid, running into a yard where they had acorns on the ground. Since we were usually barefoot, it was never fun.

  6. It's still hot in Madrid, but here in Ohio I've had my jacket on all day long. I always get cold when I come here, especially in places where the air conditioning is so strong.

  7. Still hot in NJ. We still have our a/c on. I noticed yesterday that our neighbors yard was covered in leaves. I thought maybe they cleaned under their steps or rain gutter but when we rode by their oak tree is about 1/2 empty. I noticed a few other neighbors have shedding trees too. Our trees haven't started shedding yet but I'm sure it will be soon. Can't wait for cooler Fall weather.

  8. I remember the sound of those crunching under the car tires growing up. Our home was surrounded by big trees. Looks like it might be a colorful fall this year. Maybe our rain will make it a nice Autumn. Have a good night.

  9. I never knew that Florida had so many acorns! I love Florida in the fall even with the afternoon showers. We will be going to Orlando Marriott Grande Vista at the end of this month! What does your schedule look like?!
