Remembering that horrific day, 12 years ago, when America was attacked. Remembering the bravery of the responders, the horror of the families who lost loved ones, and the trauma suffered by so many.
It is also Patriot Day, and fitting that I have a DAR meeting this afternoon. God bless America.
And now for Hodgepodge Wednesday:
1. What's the best thing about growing older? Relaxing. I can actually relax and not stress about
‘stuff’ anymore. It’s wonderful.
2. When did you first feel like a grown up? I think I have always felt grown-up, because I was the oldest child and had a lot of responsibility growing up, but I actually knew I wasold grown-up when everyone around me started calling me
ma’am, and I realized nearly everyone around me was younger. How did that happen?!
3. Chocolate cake with white icing or white cake with chocolate icing? Either would be fine, but chocolate cake with chocolate icing is divine.
4. What's the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for you? I guess it’s pretty bad that I can’t think of anything. Perhaps it’s when I’m at a side street during rush hour, trying to turn onto a busy street and someone stops to let me pull out. That happens frequently, and I will do it for someone else, too. It is maddening to be stuck while thousands of cars go by, or they stop and block the intersection.
5. What's something you learned from your grandparents? Patience from my three grandpas; love of family is centered in the kitchen, from my Granny Kelly; how to see joy in everyday things from my step-grandma (still living at 92 yrs. young). My mom’s mom – I learned how not to be like her, and we’ll leave it at that.
6. Wednesday marks a sad day in the history of planet earth-9/11...what's something you do (or can do) to bring peace to your little corner of the world? It is a sad day, and one that I’ll never forget. I do my best to not spread gossip, and to love people for who they are inside, not what they look like on the outside. I still fly the stars and stripes in front of the house, and have a banner that proclaims “God Bless America”. I love how we all came together after the tragedy of 9/11. I hate how it has now all fallen apart.
7. Share a favorite quote, scripture, or song containing the word peace. Being a ‘child of the 60s’ I can quote Jimi Hendrix: “When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.” Scripture: John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. And this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPH4LRASWbo
8. Insert your own random thought here. It is football season, finally!!! The Philadelphia Eagles stomped on the Washington Redskins Monday night. It was a joyful time at our house!

Peace, love, hugs & prayers!

Great answers! My fave is choc cake with white icing. Yum
ReplyDeleteAs usual I enjoyed reading your hodgepodge answers. I won't be posting mine until later today but I hope you'll stop by in the morning. :)
ReplyDeleteToday is a very solemn day indeed. Everyone is talking about "where were you"... it's still difficult for me to remember all the horrible things I watched happen that day, via TV of course. My heart still breaks for those who died and those who survived.
Have a good day. ♥
I'm an Eagles fan too-that was an exciting game! I like that you mentioned letting people out in traffic. I think it's a small thing, that can actually turn around somebody's mood sometimes. I know when someone lets me out in busy traffic I feel better about the world in general. Glad you played along today!
ReplyDeleteHi, I came to your blog via Joyce's Hodgepodge. I'm with you when you say that the best thing about getting older is that you can relax more and not worry about "stuff" so much. I think as we get older we learn what is worth the worry and what we should let go of. It makes for more peace in my life, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me stop by. Enjoy your day! Pam.
I was the first born in my family. I'm not sure I felt grown up. It was more a feeling of being smart. I didn't really feel grown up till my husband left me, and I had to make all my own decisions and take care of the house and kids and bills all by myself. That made me grow up, and it wasn't a bit fun.
ReplyDeleteI will always remember 9-11! I agree the best part of growing up is that we can worry less. And I agree chocolate and chocolate. sandie
