Throwback Thursday had me thinking about graduations. I've posted my senior picture before, so didn't want to go there. Decided to share my college graduation photo with you. I went back to college, and graduated with my Bachelor of Arts Degree, at age 50 (11 years ago). I was terrified about going back to school. Joe was so supportive!! I graduated with honors (Magna Cum Laude) and was asked to do the opening remarks at graduation, which is what the photo shows. All I can say is....if I can do it, anyone can do it. My school was Warner Southern College, which is now Warner University (a Christian college in Lake Wales, FL).
I had my annual mammogram this morning. Hope you all get yours, too!! Then, later in the morning, I saw my Orthopedic doctor about my knees. I mentioned yesterday that my insurance will cover the SynVisc injections, now. I've had it before, and it's not fun - but temporary discomfort brings good results. However... it took Dr. Vo FOUR sticks to find the right place, under my right knee cap and inside the 'sac'. Very painful. The left knee went in with one stick, no fuss, no mess. He then told me that some of the medication went outside the (right) joint, and will probably cause me pain for three or four days. I should take some Tylenol for it. Well, I can tell you that my leg now hurts from my ankle up into my hip. I'm not a happy girl, but will need to just deal with it. I hope it's only 3-4 days.
So that's my sad, sad story for the day. Thanks for checking in! Vinny is doing very well, but we are still keeping him quiet in his own room. I am anxious to let him out, to become acclimated to the rest of the house and the other cats. Maybe this weekend!! Happy Friday Eve!! Peace, love & hugs.

Hi Terri,
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the pain in your knee. I have decided to have knee replacement surgery and it is scheduled for July 15. It seems scary to me but everyone tells me I am doing the right thing. I never even tried the injections.
Ruth, please keep me posted. I'm headed there, too, but my doctor keeps telling me to wait. The SynVisc injections DO work and last 6-months to a year (my last one was a little over a year ago). You could ask about it. I will be very interested in hearing about your surgery, though. Please keep me posted.
DeleteGosh I am so proud of you going back to school and getting a degree with honors. You are a woman of courage. sandie
ReplyDeleteDo you still have your gold tassel, braid or whatever those things are called? I can only imagine that mine was destroyed when my sister's house burnt as she took most of my stuff when my family moved house. When I got my Master's none of my family showed up for the ceremony, because they had car trouble. Of course, in those days we didn't have smartphones or WhatsApp. I'm proud of you too.
ReplyDeleteYes, Brenda, I still have my tassel and my cords, but it does seem silly to keep them around, taking up space. I had the cords draped over a curtain in the bedroom/office for awhile. Now I think they are in the closet.
DeletePS - no one came to my ceremony, except Joe. I think about that sometimes, too. It seemed like a non-event to my family, but that's okay. Our step-granddaughter graduated that Spring, too, and I have a photo of us at HER graduation (took my cap & gown to Virginia). She is pulling on my cords, because she didn't get any. It was a cute moment.
DeleteYou are so smart and I am not one bit surprised that you graduated with those honors.
ReplyDeleteTerri, I am so sorry you are in pain, but at the same time, thankful you were able to get those shots to avoid surgery on your knees. Have a quiet restful weekend and maybe by Monday you will be able to kick high! Vinny will have fun once he gets used to the other fur babies. Hugs.
Ouch! Sorry your knees are still hurting. Hopefully your new meds will kick in fast. Glad to hear Vinny is doing well. He is a cutie! You should be very proud of your graduation. It is a huge accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteI admire you for returning to college and then graduating with honors - that's wonderful! So sorry to hear about your knee pain, I hope it's under control soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for everyone's concern. I woke up this morning with most of the pain GONE! Thank goodness. Still some swelling and bruising, but at least my whole leg isn't hurting. I'm hopeful that I'll be walking pain-free soon!
ReplyDeleteI am glad I saw your last comment. It is wonderful you feel that much better already. Praying the knees feel better again soon too and you almost don't know they are there!
ReplyDeleteYou are to be patted on the back often for returning to school. We enjoy learning more as adults but it often takes more time to comprehend and retain the information.
You probably are doing this or considering it - - but do you have some kind of barrier for the door of the room where Vinny is residing? Something like a baby gate. That way they can all start sniffing each other first.
Terri, I'm so sorry you are hurting.
ReplyDeleteLove that pic of you, and Fred and I are so proud that you went back and finished. You go, girl!
XO,
Sheila
Ouch! I got the willies just thinking about the needle in the knee. Hope that pain goes away soon.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture. Congratulations on your achievement. A college degree is something to be proud of, no matter the age. I think that's wonderful.
Hope you have a great day.
