It has been a busy (and long) Saturday! There was so much going on in our beautiful city today, and we didn't get to participate in any of it. There was an ice cream festival going on downtown, as well as a Jazz Festival, not to mention the Saturday farmers' market, also downtown.
Instead, we spent three hours learning about firearms and the laws for carrying a concealed weapon. Joe and I both got our certificates! We still need to go be fingerprinted, get our applications notarized and send it all in with a rather large check. If we are approved, we will get a photo ID allowing us to carry a concealed weapon, good for seven years. I was interested to learn that it doesn't just mean firearms. It also certifies us to carry a concealed stun gun, a billy club, mace and/or a big knife. Oh my!
After going through the laws and then seeing different weapons, how to load a gun and unload a gun, etc., etc., we also had to fire a gun. Got through it all. Now we need to spend some time at a range, and decide on the right weapon for me (Joe has one). I need to practice, practice, practice!!
There were only four of us, and the other two were a young married couple. The man is a Sheriff's Deputy, and his wife is a school teacher. It was fun having a small group and we also got to hear some police academy stories, as well as info about traffic stops, etc. I enjoyed it. Yes, my "real" name is Teresa. Please know that I don't like my formal name, and much prefer Terri.
After the class, we popped into Walmart for a couple of things, then went to Publix for groceries. We went to our Saturday Vigil Mass, and then took Helen out for dinner at Panera Bread. She likes to get a bowl of soup there. When we took her home, Joe got the paperwork needed to do her tax return and we visited for awhile.
No alarm clock tomorrow, but I'll have laundry to do, some cleaning and bookkeeping. At least no alarm clock!!
I hope you have had a good Saturday! Peace, love & hugs.

According to my calendar, tomorrow is "No Housework Day." I think that "holiday" should be more than once a year!
ReplyDeleteWell, congrats! Now I need to go do that. I want a stun gun! I need to taser my son, who claims they don't stop him. I want to find out whether or not he's lying ... ;-)
Too bad you missed some of the events downtown, but I think you did quite a lot. Hope you have a relaxing Sunday.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I am sure glad we are good friends...lol Enjoy your day of rest.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm glad you enjoyed it and passed as that was your aim. Personally I would rather have been at the ice cream fair.
ReplyDeleteAs an English person I simply cannot get my head around why you would want a gun at all but I guess it is a cultural difference.
I cannot believe the list of other items you are now allowed to carry. A stun gun? WHY???? I don't even know what a mace and a billy club are.
I don't want to carry a concealed weapon, Jilly, and won't ever, probably. I am doing this because our constitutional rights are about to be taken away and I am just making a statement. We Americans enjoy our freedoms and the right to bear arms. Just because I won't carry a weapon, doesn't mean I can't carry a weapon. If I want to, I can. I'm making a statement. Plus, it won't hurt to know how to handle a firearm, in case I ever am called to do so. I will protect my home and family, should I ever need to.
DeleteI'm glad you had a good time at the class. Can't wait to hear about your adventures at the gun range. Enjoy your Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThe class went into quite detail. That's good. I'm glad you enjoyed it. You know I totally agree with your thoughts and this decision. I need more practice on the range. I have a good teacher.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great day.
Congratulations!! You did have a busy day. Lots of weapons you can carry, you would be loaded for bear if you had all those on you. LOL I have not fired a gun in years. At one time I was a member of a rod and gun club and shot skeet almost every weekend. That was longer ago than I want to think about though. I would loved to have gone to that ice cream festival and the farmer's market. Thank you for visiting my blog. Hugs
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. I don't know anything about guns, but I believe everyone should know how to properly fire and care for a gun should they need to. My daughter wants to learn, and I'm thinking of learning along with her.
ReplyDeleteWe have thought about getting firearms too. Congrats. sandie
