January 12th: Monday Musings

Here we are, already heading into the middle of January 2026!  The new year is off and running!

I wish I could say that the Home Show on Saturday was great, but it was such a disappointment for all of us!  We expected a packed event, but I don't think there were more than 30 vendors.  It took us, maybe, 45 minutes to walk around, even stopping to talk with some of them.  I didn't take one picture, but I should have taken one at our stop for some skincare products (yes, at a home show).

I was the guinea pig to have the dark circles and bags under my eyes go away with the miracle product. She put the cream on and then used a fan to help it dry... she kept saying "do you see the difference?" and my friends were looking over her shoulder, laughing and shaking their heads! Then the woman said the normal price is $1,200, but the special for that day was $199, and they would include a free jar of something else that usually sells for $349, today only.  She was appalled that I got up and walked away!  The application was only needed once a week, so the tube would last a year!!  That made it even funnier.  I really wonder if she made any sales!

We left there and decided to go downtown for the Farmers' Market that closes an entire six blocks on Kentucky Avenue every Saturday morning.  I've posted pictures of it before, so I didn't think to get the camera out.  Sharon has recently retired and hasn't been to the market before.  It was fun introducing her to it.  She seemed to enjoy it and talked about getting her husband there soon.  Lakeland truly has a great Saturday Market!  We also visited a few of the downtown stores and had some lunch at The Purple Onion.  Day saved!!

Susan volunteered to drive on Saturday.  When we headed downtown, I mentioned the parking lot I usually park in when I go to the market.  Susan mentioned the parking garage she uses.  As we were discussing it, there was a parking spot ahead, just a block from the start of the vendors, and she whipped her car into that spot like a parallel parking expert!  We all cheered at how perfectly she did it!!  I am TERRIBLE at backing up and TERRIBLE at parallel parking (and I even have a backup camera)!  Susan is now the designated driver whenever there might be parallel parking involved!

It turned into a great Girls' Day Out, despite the disappointing home show.

I went to church yesterday, and it was communion Sunday.  We also had our monthly potluck, which is always nice.  I volunteered to bake one of the two hams the church supplied, so I didn't make another dish to take.  There is always plenty of food, and unfortunately, we were missing quite a few folks due to sickness, including three of our Praise Team members.  Something is going around, and I sure hope it doesn't stop here at my house!

The week ahead brings a lunch out with friends Al and Theresa, and then my trip north to my sister's in Georgia, before hopping over to Brunswick, to Joey and Darlene's house.  It will be a fast, two-night trip, but it will be good to see everyone, including lunch with Pamela and John (Closed Doors, Open Windows) on my return to Florida.  I am meeting up with them and Benton to buy one of Benton's Nativity Scenes!!  Pamela is making chili for our lunch!!  It will be cold (for us) this week!! Chili will be so good!  Thank you, Pam!! I'm looking forward to seeing you!

Thanks for making it this far.  No photos and too many words.

Peace and Hugs!

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit's call
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

  1. Oh, I am so glad your outing with your friends was saved by more good stuff to see than what you originally had planned on. That make up stuff sounds terrible! Who can afford that??? I'm glad you didn't break out from it or have any other adverse reaction! I've learned the hard way about trying out different kinds of cosmetics. My skin is too sensitive to be a guinea pig! LOL. All in all sounds like a good weekend, and I am excited that you will be HERE next Saturday for lunch. I feel so honored and blessed to be on your way home!! Just drive safely and have a wonderful time in GA with your sister and son. Yes, bundle up! The cold weather is on its way!!!

  4. I am sorry the home show wasn't the greatest, but it sounds like you salvaged your adventure with the farmers' market and lunch. I'm sure there are people who would have bought that overpriced skin care regime, but like you, I would not be one of them. Enjoy your week, Terri!

  5. What a bummer about the home show. I laughed at your description of the eye cream.
But, you girls made the best of it. I hate parallel parking too and avoid it at all costs.
You have a fun week ahead! I'm jealous that you get to meet up with Pamela again.

  6. That is a shame the Home Show wasn't great! Oh my goodness! That is crazy money for something to put on your face which doesn't do much. The farmers market sounds much better. It does sound like a great girls day out!

  7. Sorry to hear that the Home Show was such a disappointment, Terri, but your story about the face cream lady had me chuckling. What was she doing there anyway? Wishing you a wonderful week with your family and safe travels, too. Say "hi" to Pamela for me!

  9. Thankfully there aren't too many parallel parking spaces in my part of the world ~ except for Main Street in downtown La Porte. The good think is there is never a lot of cars parked so most times you can just pull up to curb. lol Have a great week.

  11. Dang! I would have walked away too. The best way to get rid of eye bags is ice. It works. Cheap fix. LOL ✨

  12. What a disappointment, that Home Show! I, too, wonder if that lady made any miracle cream sales -- there's so much of that stuff being bally-hooed about lately. I might have been tempted 20 years ago, but now? Whatcha see is whatcha get and I'm not losing any sleep over it.
3 cheers for Susan's parking. I think I've only parallel parked 3-4 times in my life. Under duress, ha!

PS - I hope and pray someday we'll be able to get together in person again -- when you've more time and Tom's better.

  13. I know you enjoyed the outing even if the vendors weren't plentiful or things fun to look at. you were a good sport about the cream. I would have been looking for a way out. They always seem to find me and want me.
Good for your friend on the parallel parking. I remember learning and doing it often in my hometown. It was an old town made for it. I learned in an Oldsmobile 98 so you would think anything would be easy compared to that big thing. I did parallel park in Pensacola a while back in my truck. I was quite proud of myself.

  15. At least the skincare booth gave you some laughs! haha! Knowing how to parallel park can come in very handy at times!! Have a great day!

  16. Not sure how I missed this blog the other day. Yes, the home show was very disappointing, but we made up for it by going to the farmer's market! Had a great time with my great friends. I just got lucky with the parallel parking but thank you for the compliment!
