September 24th: The Wednesday Hodgepodge...

A big thanks to our hostess, Joyce, for today's questions!  Be a Hodgepodger by clicking HERE!

Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 621

From this Side of the Pond

1. Fall officially rolls into the Northern Hemisphere on Monday (9/22)...what's your favorite thing about fall?  Cooler temps and less humidity!!  And also Thanksgiving!

2. What's one thing on your real or proverbial autumn bucket list?  Exercise.  My new doctor says I need weight training for muscle and bone health.  I liked him, by the way, for those who might wonder how my appointment went.

3. Apples, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and cranberries are some of the top fall foods. Which one is your favorite, and how do you like it prepared? Any on the list you don't eat? Which one have you had most recently? I love sweet potatoes, and baked with butter and cinnamon is my favorite.  I haven't had butternut squash in years, but not because I don't like it.  I just don't think to buy it to prepare.  I have Granny Smith apples in the house and have been having one a day...

4. 'Fall is proof that change is beautiful' is a popular sentiment. Would you agree or no? Elaborate.  I can agree for the most part, but change can also be painful.

5. Is there a spot near you where people go to see the leaves change color? Will you try to leaf-peep somewhere this fall? Lonely Planet lists the following ten places as the best for leaf peeping...of those listed, which would you most like to visit?  Here in Florida, some trees change color, but certainly not like those "up north."  I have no plans to go anywhere to leaf-peep. I'll pick Tennessee/NC just because they are closest to me.

Stowe, Vermont~Shenandoah National Park, Virginia~Columbia River Gorge, Oregon~Zion National Park, Utah~Tennessee/North Carolina border~West Virgina~Northwestern Wyoming~Wisconsin Northwoods~Northern Nevada~Ozark Highlands Scenic Byway, Arkansas

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I forgot to tell you all about a book I bought at the craft fair I went to last Saturday.  The local author was there with her books, and I bought this one...and she signed (scribbled) it for me.  She also told me that her Christmas mystery is free on Amazon Kindle this week.  I downloaded it and will read it after I read this one.  If you are interested, the name of the free Christmas book (available this week on Kindle) is The Fruitcake.   It was fun meeting the author in person!

  1. The cool temperatures and lower humidity of fall sound like the best things, and it's awesome that you're prioritizing your health with the new exercise plan for muscle and bone strength. I really hope you find a routine that you enjoy. melodyjacob.com

  2. Well if you do get to the mountains of NC let me know because I'll be there! I need to be exercising but the ankle is putting a damper on that. I hope to get some answers from the MRI later this week. Have a great day Terri!

I need to do some weight training too. Glad you like your new Dr!
Thanks for the book suggestion. I'm going to download it.

  6. I am looking forward to some cooler weather. I told myself that when October rolls around, I am going to be walking on my treadmill!! I feel so much better when I exercise, but I always find an excuse no to.

  9. Yea for good vibes on the new doctor. My fav Fall food is butternut squash bisque but I've never summoned the courage to try making it. I smiled at your reference to the Granny Smith apples. Without fail, my mother would eat an apple every evening -- not because she liked it, but because she believed it kept her 'regular.'

  10. I always feel sad when summer is over because it means we're heading towards winter. But Fall is really a lovely time of year here. Much warmer than Spring and so much more beautiful.

  11. I was able to add your link without any trouble just fyi. Sometimes when you put the link in the box you need to removed the s from https// and enter it as just http://. No idea why, but somtimes that's the issue.
