Tuesday 4...

Thanks to Annie for today's four questions!  You can join in HERE!

Countdown to Christmas

Hello and welcome once again to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 where we hope that 4 questions help you to blog, meet people and think about things in general.     Sometimes the simplest questions can be a bit difficult to answer.
Christmas is celebrated all over the world.

Let's talk about the countdown to Christmas .

1. What was the countdown to the holidays like for you as a child?  Special projects at school.. at home.. with friends?     Do you use an advent calendar?  It's been a very long time since I was a child.  The countdown seemed to take forever, as I recall.  I don't remember special projects at school.  We did not use an advent calendar.

2. As a kid did your family stay home on the holidays or go visiting around ... what do you do now?  My family celebrated Christmas three times.  The Sunday before Christmas was at one set of grandparents' house and all the cousins, aunts and uncles were there.  The Sunday after Christmas we celebrated at the other grandparents' house.  We had Christmas on Christmas day at our house.  The grandparents usually showed up during Christmas day.  It worked well for our family and I have good memories of those big family gatherings during the holidays.  I miss them.  When we moved from Washington Court House, Ohio, we were an hour from the grandparents.  Things changed some and one set of grandparents moved across the street from us.

3. What foods did Mom and Grandma make for those days?   What snacks were out?   What is the food situation in your home today?  We had all the usual traditional foods.  My mom always made red velvet cake for my birthday and for Christmas.  I don't remember any special snacks but there were always cookies and my dad loved hard ribbon candy so there was usually some of that accessible.  I  follow the same traditions here but on a smaller scale.

4.  What is Christmas dinner for you and yours? Goose? Turkey? English Roast Beef?  I make ham for Christmas dinner.  This year I will have potatoes, mac n' cheese, a green veggie, deviled eggs, pickles, rolls, red velvet cake...

Peace and Hugs!!

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree,
How evergreen your branches...

  2. You have happy childhood memories...so do I. Our families knew how to celebrate Christmas right! Although we didn't get to see my mother's side of the family as they were all up north when we moved to Florida. My paternal grandparents moved to Florida when we did, so we always had Christmas dinner with them either at their house or ours. And my one cousin Becky, who now lives back in Ohio! LOL. I think your birthday is tomorrow??? Happy Happy Birthday dear Terri!! I'm singing to you from a distance!!! Hope your day is super special! May God bless you with many many more happy birthdays!!

  3. Those are good memories! My grandparents had all passed by the time I was 4, except one grandpa and he spent the winter in Florida. We always spent Christmas with my moms sister and her family. Sometimes they came to our home, other times we went there. We were close to our cousins and it was always special!

  5. My maternal grandmother always sent us an Advent calendar before Christmas so my brother and I could take turns opening the little doors. That was such a great tradition! I so wish we could have lived closer to our grandparents when we were growing up. Your gatherings in the past must have been grand, Terri. Blessings!
