The Saturday 9...

Before we get to Sam's questions, I want to let you know that my cardiologist cleared me for surgery.  My stress test and the echo were just fine, as was my most recent EKG.  Many thanks to my fellow prayer warriors for lifting this in prayer!!  As he was leaving, he said "See you in a year".

-------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's nine questions!  You can join in HERE!

Goodbye

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions!

Saturday 9: Goodbye (1969)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

This song was chosen because it's time to say goodbye to 2024.
Thanks for participating in Saturday 9 this year.

1) In this song, Mary Hopkin asks her lover not to let her sleep too late. Did you wake up this morning on your own, did someone wake you, or were you jangled awake by an alarm clock?  I always set my alarm, but usually wake up before it goes off.  I also have cats that don't let me sleep too late.

2) The lyrics reference "a lonely song." Can you name a song about loneliness?  Alone Again, (Naturally) by Gilbert O'Sullivan (telling my age).

3) "Goodbye" was written for Mary by Paul McCartney. He was the one who signed her to her first record contract and produced this and all her Apple Records, including her first big hit, "Those Were the Days." Looking back on 2024, who is someone who gave you a helping hand when you needed it?  Most recently, my neighbor Dee came over when I had that kidney stone and called 911 for me.  Her hubby, Bill, fixed my leaky roof earlier in the year.

4) This video shows Mary performing on The Ed Sullivan Show while wearing a miniskirt. Minis were very popular in 1969. Did you embrace a fashion trend in 2024?  No.  I don't even know what a fashion trend was in 2024.  Too old to care now.  I did have a couple of miniskirts, though, back in those crazy 1960s.

5)  Also in 1969, the Colts lost to the New York Jets in Super Bowl III. The game is famous because of all the hype leading up to it, including Joe Namath "guaranteeing" the underdog Jets would win. Do you have a special sports memory of 2024?  Nope.  Watching sports was fun with Joe because he loved it so much but it's not much fun watching by myself.  I didn't even enjoy the Olympics.

6) What's the farthest from home you traveled in 2024?  From Florida to Ohio.

7) What was the biggest purchase that you made in 2024?  New floors in the whole house (except bathrooms).

8) What was your favorite book of 2024?  Janet Evanovich's latest Stephanie Plum book Now or Never (#31).

9) What are you looking forward to most in 2025? One more project in my house (a guest bathroom re-do), friends visiting, and perhaps a little travel that lets me check in with some of you!!

Peace and Hugs!!

All hail the power of Jesus’ Name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all,
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all.

  1. So happy to hear the good medical report! That is great news anytime, but especially before surgery! Oh, I'm anxious to hear/see what you are planning to redo in your guest bathroom in the new year. Do tell! We have been discussing redoing John's bathroom that has the shower stall. But we are afraid what it might involve...thinking floors underneath the shower may be getting compromised from possible previous water damage...but we know that's going to be a major repair, so we are putting it off. Hopefully we won't fall through the floor some day while taking a shower! LOL. (I don't think it's really THAT bad, but we need to check it out). Oh, those "fashion trends" of the 60's were something else, right? I had some very short skirts, maybe not really "mini", but short enough to make sure I was wearing appropriate undergarments just in case I bent over too far! LOL. My mother was much too strict for me to wear anything really inappropriate, but I stretched the limits as far as I could push them to be "in style" with the rest. LOL. "Those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end..." Happy Saturday. Oh I love that hymn..."crown Him, crown Him, crown Him, and crown Him Lord of all!" It's great to harmonize on that chorus!!!

    1. Pam, my guest bathroom has wallpaper. For the record, I hate wallpaper. The seams are curling - never put wallpaper in a bathroom!! Casper decided one wall was a cat toy and started pulling the paper off. The shower surround has come loose from the wall and needs to be replaced. The man who did my floors is coming back to do the bathroom. A new surround and paint. Then I am done, except for painting the kitchen, and maybe my bathroom. We'll see. Paint is easy.

  2. I hope you get to accomplish the things you want in 2025. And if you should be anywhere near southwest Ohio, let me know and we'll meet up for lunch. I'm willing to drive a couple hours if needed. I'm like Pam, I wasn't allowed to wear the minis, but I too pushed it as much as I could. lol

  3. Wonderful news from your doc! I thought I was the only one underwhelmed by the Olympics. I'm right there with you on fashion trends (huh?) ... and left caring about that sort of thing 30 years ago. I'm going to check out that latest Stephanie Plum book; hopefully, a change of genre will help stoke my brain cells.

PS - Don't forget, our welcome mat is always out!

  4. Thank goodness Dee was able to help you. How scary.
I had a great time with family today. I got to see my nephews that live out of state, so that is always nice. One lives in Texas and the other in Alabama. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend. Happy New Year 2025!

  5. A fashion trend we see these days is a slit (or a hole) in dresses and blouses in seductive places. We see it on TV anchor women all the time. I think it's just terrible.

  7. I would have chosen that same song, Terri, if I had to think of one about loneliness. I loved Mary Hopkin back in the day and I had that album, too. And who needs an alarm clock when you have cats? LOL! Have a great weekend!

  9. My Oliver doesn't like to let me sleep in, either. He will sit beside my pillow and meow. If that doesn't work he will whack me in the face...gently, but still. I hope you get to do your traveling in the new year!

  10. You're going to have surgery?! I need to back up in the blog and see why. Hope it's nothing serious. Glad you've been cleared for it.
I'm with you on the wallpaper: not a fan. Paint and/or wood or something is so much easier and, to me, prettier.
Love & Happy New Year! 🎉
