Jolene
Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Jolene (1973)
Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Dolly Parton sings about a woman with great hair, great eyes, a great smile and a great voice. OK, so Jolene has it all. Of these, which is your most attractive feature: your hair, your eyes, your smile or your voice? Most definitely NOT my hair! People comment on my smile but I've always said my green eyes. It is not really something I think about.
2) Dolly tells us her husband mentions Jolene in his sleep. Do you talk in your sleep? I don't think so. Joe would have mentioned it.
3) Dolly has said this song was inspired by a bank teller she caught flirting with her husband. That was in the 1970s. Today we can do our banking from our computers, our phones or a bank ATM. When is the last time you spoke to a banker? On Wednesday morning, before the hurricane. My debit card had been compromised and I needed to sign some papers and get a new card, then I got cash to have for after Milton when cards couldn't be used.
4) Dolly had a crush on Johnny Cash. When she was just a teen she saw him perform at The Grand Ole Opry and called it "love at first sight." Are you crushing on anyone right now? No. Not even a little.
5) Dolly is more than a singer/songwriter. She's an industry! Her Dollywood is a theme park, water park, hotel and spa. Looking back on the summer of '24, did you visit a theme park, water park, hotel, or spa? None of the above.
6) A luxury stay at Dollywood can get expensive unless you're the teacher who wins this year's Chasing Rainbows Award from Dolly. She treats a deserving teacher to a week at Dollywood. Tell us about a teacher who made a difference in your life. They all did, but grade school would be my 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Everhart. Jr. High/High School would be my band director, Mr. Hoeltzel, and my art teacher, Mrs. Buskirk.
7) Dollywood is in Sevier County, TN. Her ties to the community are strong, and in 2007, Dolly raised the funds to build a new hospital that opened there in 2010. When you were last in a hospital, were you a patient or a visitor? Visitor.
8) In 1973, when "Jolene" was popular, Elvis' "Aloha from Hawaii" concert aired. "Aloha" is the native Hawaiian word used when greeting or parting. Can you say anything else in Hawaiian? The only thing I can think of is Merry Christmas, from Christmas Vacation: Mele Kalikimaka
9) Random question: Have you more recently eaten cold pizza or cold fried chicken? Cold pizza.

So thankful you are able to get back online and even write a post! Yay! Praise God! I enjoyed your answers, and the Hawaiian Christmas greeting is sweet. Was that in Christmas Vacation, with Chevy Chase? I'm trying to remember...maybe when he was daydreaming...I love that movie. Such a classic funny one! We are happy for some cooler days right now, which is great for all the outdoor clean up everyone is having to do. Hope your electrical issues will be resolved soon! Have a blessed day and weekend.
ReplyDeleteYes, to the pool scene in Christmas Vacation. Cooler temps are good for those of us who still don't have AC, as well. Happy weekend!
DeleteYay, I am so glad your back online. Thanks, I am now humming that song. lol--have a beautiful day friend.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to take care of the card issue before the hurricane! We recently had our card compromised too; someone was buying yoga classes in CA. :)
ReplyDeleteI adore Dolly Parton and all the wonderful things she's done for the people in her own backyard. She is a blessing in so many ways. Glad to see you posting normally, too, Terri. You're such a blessing to all of us!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're staying on top of things, Terri. (I'm not surprised.) This identify-theft crooks are getting more devious by the day. Makes me so cross, but I don't know there's anything we can do but remain vigilant -- and pray. (At my son's urging, I did buy a dozen RFID envelopes.)
ReplyDeleteI love cold pizza ... sometimes with a sunny-side up egg on top.
PS - I think Blogger at my comment on your last post, but *WOW* on that video your neighbor captured!
So sorry you had to deal with the compromised credit card but glad you were able to address the matter before the storm hit.
