The Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions.  You can join the fun HERE!

Minute by Minute

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Minute by Minute (1979)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) It's easier to keep track of the minutes if your timepiece has a second hand. As you answer these questions, are you wearing a watch or can you see a clock that has a second hand? My watch has a second hand.  It was actually advertised as a "nurse's watch" and is waterproof, and has a secondhand.

2) In this song, Michael McDonald admits he knows his girl has lied to him. Do you suspect any one of your friends/family has fibbed to you recently?  Nope.

3) McDonald's big break came in 1973 when he joined Steely Dan's touring band. What do you consider your first professional success?  It was probably working at the art museum for 20+ years. I did a good job for them.

4) In 1975 he joined The Doobie Brothers. He was originally supposed to be a temporary replacement for Tom Johnston, but he ended up working with the band uninterrupted for seven years. Tell us about something that's happened to you that turned out better than you anticipated.  Gosh, I'm so very blessed in so many ways.

5) In 1986 he guest starred on an episode of The Young and The Restless. Have you ever been hooked on a daytime drama?  Oh, my gosh. When I was in high school, it was All My Children, One Life to Live, General Hospital, and Dark Shadows.  They were all 30 minutes starting at 3:00, and were over at 5:00.  I could do homework and watch, and during commercials, help get dinner started if mom left instructions (she worked full time).  I did watch General Hospital again when I had my little bakery with a TV to watch while I decorated cakes. It's been years since I tuned in.

6) Michael and wife Amy raised their family near Nashville, where they had their own pond and a garden they lovingly tended. Do you enjoy yard work?  I do not enjoy yard work of any kind.

7) In 1979, when "Minute by Minute" was popular, movie star John Wayne died. In 2004, the US Postal Service honored him with a stamp. What was in the last envelope you stamped and dropped in a mailbox?  A thank you card I mailed to my co-workers at Tenoroc, thanking them for the cook-out and cards on my last day of work.

8) In 1979, the most popular new car was the Oldsmobile Cutlass. Ads promised drivers the Cutlass could make it easy to get in and out of tight parking spots. Are you good at parallel parking?  I'm pretty good at it but freely admit that the backup camera on my car helps. I did, however, pass my driver's test on the first try at age 16. That included a flawless parallel park.

9) Random question: Did you know your great-grandparents? Two of my great-grandmas were living when I was born.  One passed before I was old enough to remember her.  Gr-grandma Swiss died when I was four or five.  I do remember her sitting in her rocking chair making string balls. Here she is at a much younger age with Gr-grandpa Swiss and my Gr-Aunt Emma.  Gr-Grand's name was also Emma.

I think my shelves are being delivered today, for my laundry closet.  I will be so happy to get stuff put away and off my kitchen table!! No pictures of that mess!! I did find some mold that I need to ask German about (my handyman). I think there will be some deconstruction that needs to be done. Sigh.  He is scheduled to install my new security doors on Monday. It feels good to be getting things done.

Peace and Hugs!!

Facing a task unfinished
That drives us to our knees
A need that, undiminished
Rebukes our slothful ease
We, who rejoice to know Thee
Renew before Thy throne
The solemn pledge we owe Thee
To go and make Thee known

  1. It feels like it was in another lifetime, but I used to love watching Days of our Lives. I'm so happy for you getting so much done around you house, too, Terri. Have a blessed weekend!

  3. The soaps were so much different back in the day, and were almost a part of the family without all the craziness that they developed in later years.. Always lots of secrets.

  4. I couldn't get into watching Soaps. My thing is British detective and mysteries. When I was a kid I enjoyed those silly Sci-Fi stories. They make me laugh now.
Hope your day is blessed. 💙

  5. Love the picture of your gr grands. I liked the soaps in my teens and early twenties. I especially liked General Hospital, Days of Our Lives, The Young and the Restless and As the World Turns. I do not parallel park. Wow! You haven't messed around about getting all the things done. Good for you!

  6. I used to watch All My Children too.
I like that photo of your great grandparents and aunt!
I hope the mold thing doesn't turn into a big problem. The shelves will be great!

  7. Gosh, I haven't worn a watch in forever; now I wonder why. My former husband and I were hooked on Days of our Lives -- and I may have had an tiny crush on the villainous Stephano. I'd rather do most anything around the house BUT yard work. 😝

  8. I remember those soaps. The only one I was ever hooked on was All My Children, and I used to watch it when I'd put the baby (Benton) down for a nap and I'd fold diapers (real cloth ones) while I watched it. Then a friend of mine who also watched it told me she got "convicted" at a revival about watching soaps and decided to quit, and she didn't want to hear anymore about it. We used to talk about each episode together on the phone. She also had a little baby the same age as mine, so this was our entertainment. Anyway, when she quit watching it, it wasn't fun anymore so I got "convicted" about it too and quit watching, and never have watched another one to this day. LOL.

  9. You really are blessed, Terri...but then, I think we all are. We just don't all have your gift for looking for the blessings and being grateful.
