Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions! You can join in HERE!
Linda
Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Our theme for August is "Girls' Names."
2) In addition to singing with big bands, Buddy sang commercial jingles live on radio programs and was the voice of Carnation Milk. Can you think of a jingle that's stayed in your head? You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent!
Linda (1946)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Buddy Clark sings that when he can't sleep he doesn't count sheep, he enumerates Linda's charms. Did you sleep well last night? I slept great last night (Thursday) and groaned when my alarm went off. Bed felt good and I really didn't want to get up.
3) For "Linda," Buddy Clark performed with bandleader Ray Noble. Ray was classically trained at London's Royal Academy of Music, but much preferred big band music to that of Mozart, Beethoven, or Chopin. When did you last listen to classical music? Classical... a long time. Classic rock, classic country... every day.
4) Composer Jack Lawrence named this song after a particular little girl, the daughter of his lawyer, Lee Eastman. Without looking it up, do you know what became of Lee Eastman's daughter Linda? Nope. I would have to look it up. Just did, hand hitting head.
5) According to the Social Security Administration Linda was long one of the most popular names for American baby girls. It was #2 in the 1940s and 1950s (second only to Mary). By the 1960s it slipped to #7 and by the 1970s it fell to #68. Are there many Lindas in your life? There are four Lindas I count as family & friends (one is blogging friend, Linda!).
6) 1946, the year this record was released, is regarded as the first year of the Baby Boom, which lasted until 1964. Are you from The Silent Generation or are you Boomer, a Gen-Xer, a Gen-Yer, or a Millennial? I'm a 'right-in-the-middle' Boomer, born in 1951.
7) In the summer of '46, hats were a standard part of any woman's outfit. Hats for day, hats for evening, hats for rainy days ... The 1946 Sears Spring-Summer catalog devoted nine pages to women's hats. Do you own many hats? I have one hat. If yes, for what occasions do you wear them? Joe bought a straw hat at Mayfaire one year and he loved that hat. I look ridiculous in hats but kept his hat. If I was going to be out in the sun, I just might put it on.
8) Also in 1946, the Mensa Society was created. The only qualification to join was an IQ in the top 98th percentile. Do you know your IQ? Does reading backward/upside down on Facebook count? Those posts say you have a high IQ if you can read them? I've had IQ tests but don't remember the number - which should tell you something.
9) Random question: Tell us something you admire about your best friend. Joe was my best friend, ever. I still don't know how he put up with my hard head. Bless him.
Peace & Hugs.
Prayer Request:
There was a tragic car accident Wednesday evening and three teens were killed. One of them was the stepson of a co-worker. Two 16-year-olds and a 19-year-old. No drugs or alcohol were involved. They actually had milkshakes in the car. The 16-year-old female driver was going too fast, passing a car, and t-boned another car turning. Tragic for all the families now grieving the loss of a child. Lift some prayers if you would.

I love Joe's hat! I have a similar one that was my Papa's.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog background. So pretty! Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

What a cute expression on Joe's face. Happy in a hat!
ReplyDeleteTom's all the time rolling his eyes when I walk around the house singing the lyrics to commercial spots: "Oh-oh-oh, Ozempic!" and "Jardiance is really swell... the little pill with a great big story to tell." (Can't help myself, lol.)
Lifting my prayers for those grieving families.
What devastating news. Yes, I am praying for them now.
ReplyDeleteI have an old hat for the sun, including the pool.. now attached so much to it I refuse to let it go
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear the terrible new. A tough one indeed.
I don't look good in hats, but Bob wears them all the time.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing that pic of Joe. :)
Such sad news, praying for the families,
