Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 512
2. July 18th is National Sour Candy Day. Who knew? Do you like sour candies or other foods with 'sour' flavors? Kimchi, rhubarb, gooseberries, tamarind, dill pickles, sour cherries, sauerkraut, cranberries, and grapefruit...of the sour foods listed, which is your favorite? Having grown up in central Ohio, we ate rhubarb, sauerkraut, cranberries (Buckeye Lake has a cranberry bog)... and put sugar on it!! We ate sugar on lots of food, including cottage cheese and tomatoes. I've never had kimchi, gooseberries, or tamarind but have had the others and will pick grapefruit to top the list (with some sugar on it!).
3. Share a favorite memory of an aunt or uncle. My favorite aunt AND uncle were actually my great-aunt & great-uncle. My Aunt Dorothy was SO FUN, loved her family, and I loved spending time with her. The most fun thing about Aunt Dorothy was that she didn't carry a purse. All she needed was stored in her cleavage and bra. She would pull out whatever she needed and didn't try to hide her hiding place!! Joe loved her too and they were hilarious together. Loved her so very much. Uncle Jim, too. Uncle Jim was my maternal grandma's younger brother and also an accomplished artist.
4. How would you describe your ability to manage stress? I manage it well but am happy to not have much stress in my life anymore. I had a stressful job for 20+ years at the Museum (accounting, HR, and operations), and there was also a lot of stress when I had my cake business. Wedding cakes had to be beautiful, taste good, and get delivered without mishap. Now my life is pretty chill.
5. What do you think about when you let your mind wander? While sitting in my happy place, my mind wanders to what I should be doing and don't. LOL
6. Insert your own random thought here. My across-the-street neighbor, Dee, knocked on my door Monday evening and brought me a gift. She said she has a collection of painted rocks from when she and Bill lived in The Villages, and she saw this one and had to pass it on to me. She said, "You say that you are blessed, all the time." My reply was that I surely am and gave her a big hug.

I love this post from beginning to end! Bizarre goings on indeed.
ReplyDeleteYour aunt was a hoot! I would have loved her.
The stone and quote are perfect.
The fav great Aunt for me... always made me feel special..
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful dickens, your Aunt Dorothy! She and Jim certainly made a handsome couple. I've heard about painted rocks, but have yet to see any 'in the wild.' You're sure surrounded by sweet neighbors.
ReplyDeleteLove your memories of your aunt. She sounds like someone I would love to be around. Cute rock and so true...we are all so blessed.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you had a wedding cake business once upon a time. I'm not sure what to make of these UFO/the government stories. Everything is suspect these days. I'm trying to imagine putting sugar on cottage cheese...hmmm. Although I do often put fruit on mine, which I guess is similar. Enjoy your day Terri!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you don't have too much stress anymore.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I do not like sour candy - yuck.
I don't believe in UFO's either.
"Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!" We sang that on Sunday! Love this post. UFO's? At this stage in the world, nothing would surprise me much. LOL. Your Aunt and Uncle look like a sweet and wonderful couple. I loved the story about her "non-purse". LOL. I love the painted rock. That is very sweet, and yes, you ARE blessed!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet gift to get, Terri. I'm in the "Blessed" club with you, as that's how I feel every day. And I loved the photos of your aunt and uncle. They both look like fun-loving folks, and Dorothy was a hoot!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
One of my Great Aunt's was a favorite too. She's one of the few in my adopted family that treated me nice. I miss her.
ReplyDeleteNow I wanna paint one of those rocks! That would make a nice Christmas gift at Church with other little do-dads thrown in. Thanks for the idea.
Love & Blessings. xx
I think I would love your Aunt Dorothy too, seems she was a lot of fun. Great rock, I wish I was an artist, painting rocks could be so easy if one could paint! lol
ReplyDeleteStress: I'm learning how to manage it better since my first husband died. I think I'm getting better at it. Just whispering the name of Jesus and reminding myself to let Him take care of [the current problem] is working for me.
