Saturday 9...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!  You can join in HERE.

Touch Me in the Morning

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so to speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Touch Me in the Morning (1973)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Diana Ross sings that nothing good lasts forever. Do you agree?  I will say no.  I tend to be more optimistic about things.  Then there is my cup of coffee in the morning which goes pretty fast...

2) She sings about a happy past with her lover and the strength she'll need to face tomorrow alone. Do you find yourself more often remembering the past or anticipating the future?   I think of Joe every day and draw strength from the memories.  But, I also try to honor his memory by looking forward to the future and anticipating the good things that can still happen.

3) In the 1970s, Diana Ross had young daughters. To spend maximum time with her girls, she would sleep all day when they were in school. That way she could have dinner with them, bathe them and put them to bed before going to the studio and recording all night. Have you ever worked the night shift?  No, not past 10:00 p.m. or so and that was in high school when working at Weldon's Ice Cream.  They closed at 10:00 on the weekends.

4) Diana has five children altogether. There's a 16-year age difference between her oldest daughter, Rhonda, and her youngest son, Evan. Studies have shown that when there's a big gap between siblings, parents consider the older kids "built-in babysitters." In your family, were the older kids ever in charge of the younger ones?   Ha!! I'm the oldest of four and I babysat all the time.  Mom and Dad both worked so I had to be there after school, help with the cleaning and the cooking.  I resented it sometimes but learned from it.  Being "in charge" did go to my head now and then. My youngest sister is nine years younger.  She said she thought of me more like a mom back in the day.

5) She says her favorite sweet treat is Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies. Do you have a favorite cookie?  Girl Scout Thin Mints; homemade sugar cookies... homemade any kind of cookie, pretty much.

6) Around the time she recorded this song, Diana Ross considered making a movie called The Bodyguard. She was to play a singer who received death threats, and Steve McQueen would portray the man hired to protect her. Scheduling conflicts prevented the movie from being made. It wasn't filmed until 1992, and then with different stars. Without looking it up, can you name the stars of The BodyguardIt is a favorite and I have the DVD. Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston.  Great movie!!

7) In 1973, when this song was #1, Norman Mailer was atop the best-seller list with his controversial biography of Marilyn Monroe. Do you often read biographies and memoirs?  No.  I don't usually care for biographies or memoirs.  The only one I really liked was Gilda Radnor's.

8) Also in 1973, another Motown singer, Stevie Wonder, was injured in an automobile crash and still has a scar on his nose to show for it. Have you ever been in a car accident?  Two that caused damage to my car but no bodily injuries.  Not my fault, either.

9) Random Question: What's the last thing you borrowed or lent?  My neighbor borrowed my ladder.

Peace & Hugs!

  1. Working second shift was hard... still there was plenty of time to do errands if necessary during the day.. Weekends it was especially hard socially. But a buck was a buck,

  2. Oh, I loved The Bodyguard! Your response to #2 is so good. "Honor his memory", yes. I'm going to remember that whenever I get to feeling sad about Ron or my father.
    Have a wonderful weekend, Terri!

  3. You and I are so much alike. I'm also the oldest, with two sisters and a brother and my youngest sister is 9 years younger than me. :) I babysat a lot too and yes, sometimes it went to my head!
Great answer to #2. I always say that Joe would be so proud of you!

  4. My grandmother and her two younger sisters were at the tail end of 9 kids and their oldest sister, who was 16 by the time they came along, took care of them so much that my grandmother once told me her sister was more of a mother to her than her mother ever was. Would you believe I don't think I've ever seen The Bodyguard? I know it was a huge hit, but I think I missed out on it. Loved your answers...and you're doing a great job of honoring Joe. :) Enjoy your weekend!

I loved Diana Ross back in the day. I never did see The Bodyguard, but maybe I should make a point of watching it. Sounds good!
