Friday was my first day at the new job. I am now the part-time Administrative Secretary at Teneroc State Park, working for the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC for short). There are three men in the office and me. My boss is a fisheries biologist and the head man at Teneroc. This week I am sure I will learn more about the other two guys and what they do, and maybe I'll know a little more about what I do!! This is the view from my office window. It looks out on the picnic shelters...see the roof in the distance!
Friday evening, I treated my friend, Mary Jane, to dinner as a thank you for watching the cats over Memorial Day weekend. We went to GOSH which is a Vietnamese restaurant (a favorite of mine). We shared an order of spring rolls, a sushi roll, and we both had a bowl of chicken Pho. Delicious!
My calendar had nothing on Saturday so I slept in until 8:00ish, When I got myself up and had breakfast, I decided to tackle my closet. I had cleaned out and purged Joe's closet but mine was still a bit of a mess. My donation pile grew a bit, I reconfigured how things were hung and stored, and, yes, I have started using Joe's closet for my things too. I had some of my things in both of the guest room closets such as jackets, holiday clothing, fancy dress (Gala) dresses, and some other dressier things I rarely wear anymore. Those things all live in Joe's closet now. I feel okay about spreading out and taking over his space. Yes, I even had a short conversation with 'him' about it.
On Sunday, I went to church early for a summer women's Bible study that takes place in the usual Sunday School slot. Sunday School is suspended during the summer so one of the rooms is for our 9-week Bible study. We are using this book and will be studying the book of James...
After church, I drove over to Bealls Department Store to pick up a onesie in the baby department. Two years ago, Lucy had surgery and she wouldn't keep the collar of shame on, even when we bought her a pretty pink one. The Vet told me to buy a newborn onesie, cut off the bottom, and put the t-shirt on her, That worked for the entire two weeks she had to keep from licking her incision. Hoping it will work tonight when I bring her home from today's surgery.
Fingers crossed that the surgery goes well, that it isn't cancer, and that her new PINK onesie will do the trick. I have to drop her off at the Vet at 7:15 a.m., well before work. (Yawning!)
I left Bealls and went to visit Helen. She was awake this time and sitting in one of the common rooms. She got a big smile when she recognized me and seemed happy to have company. I couldn't understand much of what she was talking about but she sure did talk. I nodded a lot, smiled a lot, and laughed when she laughed. She was not nasty about staff this time and actually said that they are helpful... at least I think that was the gist of her comments. I was happy that she looked good and was animated. She wasn't upset when I said I had to go but told me to be sure to come back again. She stood up and hugged me. I kissed the top of her head and told her I loved her and she told me she loved me too. That was nice.
I went to Publix before going home. By then it was just after 4:00. I left the house at 8:45!! I put things away, fed the cats, cleaned the litter boxes, made some dinner for me, and sat down to read blogs and watch a few more Murdock Mysteries on AcornTV.
This week is packed with busy-ness. Lucy gets my attention tonight. Tomorrow, after work, I am getting a pedicure (all by myself, sadly, instead of with my sisters). Wednesday afternoon I am zooming with my great-great-niece, Maya!! We have a 2:00 appointment!! At 6:00, I am having dinner with women from church. It is called Femaleship (instead of fellowship) and we are back to meeting for dinner once a month in a restaurant somewhere. It's Italian this month. Thursday is my small group meeting, and on Friday, I am having a late lunch with my across-the-street neighbors, Anne & Paul. They are getting ready to head north for a couple of months to be with their kids & grandkids.
Hoping for a good first week of work!! Your prayers are always appreciated!!
(Good luck to blogging friend, Linda, on the first day of her new job!)

Terri, when you get done organizing at your house, come and help me sort out the closets I just jammed with things during the move.:) Onesie Idea is perfect...I had never heard of it. And much better than the cone of shame. Glad Helen has settled in and that she seemed to know you when you visited. So many changes for you but you are such an encouragement in your dealing with them. You inspire me.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post. I am glad Helen had a good visit with you. I fear my troubles with Mom are just on the cusp of starting. It is hard watching one get old.
ReplyDeleteTerri, it sounds like you have a busy week ahead. I hope it is smooth sailing. Glad to hear that Helen is adjusting and is settling in. Hope the kitty's surgery goes well. Thinking of you!
ReplyDeletePraying for you at work this week. Hubby and I are watching the Murdock Mysteries too. Pretty interesting show.
ReplyDeleteThe historical characters that pass through are always fun!
DeleteYes. Annie Oakley as what we watched last night.
DeletePraying for Lucy and trusting all is well for her. Also praying for you at your new job, and hoping it will be a happy place for you. It certainly looks like it ought to be. I think I would enjoy it there too. So glad you had a good visit with Helen, and that she seems to be adjusting so much better now. That is a great relief to you I am sure. And I am amazed at you being able to clear out the closet, etc....I know that had to be difficult, but I am glad that your "conversation" with Joe gave you the peace of mind to go ahead with it. I am sure he would approve and be proud of you for moving forward. (((hugs))) Glad you have some great friends and also women's groups at church to help support you. You are very blessed. Take care and keep us informed of all that's going on. I look forward to reading your daily messages!!
ReplyDeleteYou are one busy girl. Congrats on the new job. Hope Lucy will be okay.
ReplyDeleteI admire you.
What a pretty view out your office window! I'm so glad to hear Helen was in a cheerful state of mind when you visited. Weren't you so surprised and gratified? When you spoke of your conversation with Joe, my heart just did a little flip and imagined him saying, "You go right ahead, dear. Take all the room you want!"
ReplyDeleteLifting prayers for Lucy and looking forward to reading good news!
LOL.. Joe would not have said that but would have had a funny response that would have made me laugh... like I was just waiting for him to go so I could have his closet... I was happy to see Helen in a good mood and I appreciate your prayers for Lucy. They just called to say the procedure went well and I can pick her up at 3:30.
DeleteHow cute is the onesie and the cat in it is even cuter. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYou are one busy lady, Terri! Hope your kitty will be okay, and it's nice to hear that Helen was much more alert and attentive during your visit. I wish my mother was doing the same . . .
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
You sure had a full weekend! I'm glad the first day on the job went well. I think Joe would be happy to have you using his closet and I think he would tell you so with his big grin!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice visit with Helen too. The Bible study sounds interesting. I always enjoy studying the women of the Bible.
Hope Lucy did well!
I imagine your post tomorrow will tell how the surgery went. That flower-looking cone of shape is VERY CUTE! I hope the onesie does the trick again this time!
ReplyDeleteAll that this week in addition to working!!! You are gonna be a tired girl by the end of the week!
ReplyDeleteWe will be using Jen Wilkin's Hebrews study at our women's Bible study at Calvary this fall. I have never heard her teach.
