Hodgepodge Questions-Volume 383
1. The Hodgepodge lands on National Dog Day this year (August 26th). Do you own a dog? Did you have a dog when you were growing up, or maybe some other kind of pet? Would you say you're more of a dog person or a cat person? Neither is okay too : ) We had a dog when I was growing up named Happy. I had a collie during my first marriage and two cats. We had to give up the cats when we moved to the DC area but kept the dog, Sarge. My ex got custody of Sarge. Joe and I have had cats (plural) here in Florida for the last 30 years. We both love dogs too, but our lifestyle (working full time) kept us from getting a dog. Now, with three cats to care for, we just enjoy our friends' and neighbors' dogs.
2. Last time you felt 'dog tired'? These days, staying at home with nothing special to do makes me dog tired. Just going to the grocery perks me up! LOL
3. It's said you can't teach an old dog new tricks. When did you last prove this idiom true or prove it wrong? Well, I am old but do learn new things fairly quickly. I don't have a specific example to write about - who has done anything new these past five months? - but I am pretty good with techie things and am also good at putting things together, etc. That might change in ten years...
4. A favorite book, television show, or movie featuring a dog. Why did you love it? I loved watching Lassie on TV when I was a kid. Lassie was smart and loved Timmy. These days, I don't really seek out movies or books with dogs in them. So many of them have the dog die during the story and that always breaks my heart.
5. Last time you had reason to (literally or figuratively) exclaim 'hot diggity dog'? When our church opened its doors to in-person worship again I was thrilled!
6. Insert your own random thought here. Joe is doing well with his tooth extractions. The bleeding has stopped and there isn't pain. He said the numbing needles hurt worse than his gums did. Guess I have that to look forward to...
Happy Hump Day!
Peace & hugs! God bless!!

I had dogs + cats throughout my life. I love them both. Right now we have 3 goldfish which suits our lifestyle. I'm glad to hear that Joe is doing well.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I had both dogs and cats for years, Terri. Now, Danny and I are petless, and are glad for it, though we both love animals. We just love on other people's critters.
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear Joe is doing so well!
Blessings!
We have had both in my 31 years of marriage...but I have to say, I am a big dog person, lol. Have a great day friend.
ReplyDeleteI love dogs better than cats but haven't had one in years. One of these days I'd still like to get another one. Enjoy your day! It is so humid today that the windows are sweating! lol Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joe, when I had to have a tooth pulled in June the numbing shot definitely hurt worse than anything else...at least until I got a dry socket. That was no fun. Lassie was a great show and I used to love collies because of her. We never had one, but we did have a Sheltie that looked just like her for a while.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day!
Oh when I was a girl we always had hunting dogs that were my dad's but were family dogs as well. We had a cocker spaniel named Taffy when the children were younger but like you said, taking care of a dog is a big commitment so we have no pets now. With traveling so much it enables us to be footloose and fancy free. We do enjoy the neighborhood dogs though.
ReplyDeleteIs Joe having all his teeth pulled?
ReplyDeleteOuch.
You love cats and I love dogs!
No matter!
No... just four. He will get a partial denture plate.
DeleteWhen I was in the workforce I never thought being able to sit all day would be tiring, boy, was I wrong!! :) I understand about watching 'dog' movies, it breaks my heart. I guess I would be disappointed in myself if it didn't. Good to hear Joe is doing good, hope he continues to do well. Hope you're enjoying a great day.
ReplyDeleteWe had a collie when I was little, on the farm in PA. He was "sold" with the farm when we left to move to Florida. We also had an older Beagle that I don't even remember his name now, that's sad, but I was so young and he was so old. I think he must have died before we left the farm, and another Beagle pup named Cherry was accidentally killed by a farm tractor or truck. So when we moved to Florida no dogs...for a while. We had one named Brownie for a while, then a beagle named "Colonel", whom I loved. He knew all my "secrets". When we got married we got a puppy named Dusty, and he ended up living with my hubby's grandmother because we were moving too much. Then someone dropped off a collie in our yard in Ohio because we lived in the parsonage in front of the church. We named him Laddie too. But had to give him away when we moved. Had a Brittany named Brittany. Again, we gave her away when we moved. So, that's why we don't have any pets. We kept moving. Now we are settled and have two grandpuppies that we can go visit and love. The end. My sister is the "cat person".
ReplyDeleteKids and animals go together. Good way to start out learning responsibility. I had a wonderful English Setter..
ReplyDeleteI, too, loved Lassie back in the day. That and Rin-Tin-Tin. I agree with you about sad stories. Heck. I think it was 1960 when I read Old Yeller and I'm still traumatized. So glad to hear Joe's feeling better!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a very tender five or six years old, I went to the movies with my older cousin and we saw Old Yeller. I was horrified, cried and swore I would never watch that movie again. And I haven't. I won't watch Dances With Wolves again because the wolf gets killed. My heart can't take it.
DeleteI grocery shopped this morning and just had a little nap on the porch : ) I find the whole food ordeal exhausting, plus there was the perfect breeze blowing so a nap felt necessary. Glad Joe is doing well!
ReplyDeleteHe is doing better. A nap with a lake breeze sounds wonderful!
DeleteSo glad Joe did so well with that! He's got a good dentist!
ReplyDeleteGlad Joe is doing well. I went to the dentist yesterday and found out a crown I had done last year is failing. They aren't going to charge me but now I have to have it done again, and I'm not a fan of going to the dentist!
ReplyDeleteWe had a chocolate lab when the kids were younger, but then had cats. It is easier to work and do things with cats!
Oh, I loved Lassie when I was a little girl and I had forgotten about it. Glad Joe is doing well, teeth issues are NO fun. May the rest of your week include "splashes of joy."
ReplyDeleteWe are dog people in this household although we get along with cats just fine. Now in our retirement years, it's keeping us busy enough taking care of each other, so we don't have pets. We love on our 3 grand doggies and 2 grand kitties when we can.
