Soda Pop!
Welcome to Tuesday 4 which was started by our friend Toni Taddeo and kept up in memory of her.
Different sections of the USA have different words and customs they use. Let's talk about them.
1. In New Jersey, you put your groceries in a paper bag or plastic bag. In Athens, Ohio where I went to university, you put them in a paper sack.
Is it a bag, sack, or something else where you live? I think I use bag and sack about the same. I'm from Ohio but lived in Virginia for 12 years and here in Florida for 30 years. Some old-timers in Ohio might call it a poke!! :)
2. NJ says Stockings. Athens, Ohio used to call them "hose" and in Britain they are tights. What about where you live? I have always called them pantyhose.
3.Soda, Pop, Coke? In Ohio we always said pop. Here I usually say soda.
4. Shopping cart or trolley or? What do you call it? I say shopping cart. Once in a while, I might use a buggy though.
It will be fun to see everyone's answers today! Joe got his teeth pulled and is resting with a mouth full of gauze now (as I write this), with an ice pack. He will be hurting for a couple of days. No hot foods and soft food only. Thanks to all who offered prayers!

Oh wow! Good answers! I grew up drinking "pop" (from PA.), but here in Florida most everyone said "Coke" for any kind of soda pop! Or soft drinks...(I guess as opposed to "hard" drinks! LOL). I always wore either "hose" or "pantyhose". Some people say "nylons". And I always have to get a "buggy" at the store. I hope Joe is feeling better today, but I can imagine his mouth will be quite sore for a while. Will he be getting a partial? Hope everything goes well. Have a good rest of your week...

Sack,Hose,Coke....in the south it is ALL Coke.:), definitely buggy!! Glad the surgery went well. Dental surgery is some of the roughest in my opinion.
ReplyDeletePrayers for Joe to heal quickly. When I had two teeth pulled - - they stitched one side to close it. The other they left open to heal on its own. It's so much easier when they stitch it! It sounds like a milkshake may be in his future! Or a nutritional Smoothie.

He had all of his upper teeth removed and has false upper teeth now.
It takes time to heal.

ReplyDeleteOuch!! Prayers for Joe's healing. Back in my working days I wore pantyhose everyday. :) No pantyhose, another good thing about retirement!

I think I use sack and bag. Definitely sack if it is paper. Pantyhose.
ReplyDeleteCoke is all sodas in the south I grew up in. Definitely. I just could not use soda or pop if I tried. My mother called them Co-colas. What is funny is that I now drink no cokes of any kind and kind of gag at the thought. I gave them up about 6 years ago and now they are all too sweet.
I think I used to say buggy but now living in Florida I use the term cart.
I almost mentioned panty hose. I used to call them that too. I never hear much about them anymore. Loved your answers! Have a great week.

ReplyDeleteWe use bags, I wear pantyhose (seldom!!), we drink soda, and use shopping carts. Before pantyhose had panties, we called them nylons.
