Saturday 9.... Moonlighting

Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's Saturday 9.  You can join in

Moonlighting

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants' posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme.

Saturday 9: Moonlighting (1985)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Moonlighting was an award-winning comedy-drama that ran from 1985 to 1989. Are you familiar with the show? Were you a fan?  Yes, I watched it every week and was a big fan.  I need to look for reruns, perhaps!

2) The series revolved around The Blue Moon Detective Agency in Los Angeles. There have been countless TV shows and movies about detectives and their cases, yet Crazy Sam doesn't know anyone who has ever hired a private investigator. How about you? Have you ever had anything or anyone investigated?  No, but I worked for a PI years ago (30) for a few months.  It was fun.

3) The agency was named Blue Moon because one of the owners, Maddie Hayes, was a model known as The Blue Moon Girl, famous for promoting Blue Moon Shampoo. If we were to rename their detective agency based on the shampoo you most recently used, what would it be called?  Pantene Curl Perfection Agency. Blue Moon sounds better!

4) Cybill Shepherd played Maddie Hayes. Cybill believes we can all find romance many times and said she considers the concept of one true love as "dramatic treacle." Do you agree?  I think we can find romance many times but I also know many who found one true love and it lasts forever.  Romance and true love are really two different things in my mind.

5) David Addison was played by Bruce Willis. At the beginning of his career, he couldn't support himself as an actor and held down part-time jobs as a security guard, shuttle bus driver, and bartender. How many different occupations have you had?  Going way back to babysitting, ice cream dipper, motel housekeeper, to office clerk, to accounts receivable clerk, to accounts payable clerk, to GS-7 personnel clerk, to office manager, to bloodmobile coordinator, to word processing manager, to business owner, to business manager, to administrator... that's 14.  I think I caught them all, but that last one lasted 20+ years.

6) The Moonlighting theme was co-written and performed by Al Jarreau. While in college, Al planned on being a career counselor. Yet once he began performing with a jazz trio, he knew that music was where his heart was. Tell us about a time you found joy from an unexpected source.  I can't think of a time when joy was unexpected but I really do feel joy in each day... not to sound hokey but I do.

7) Moonlighting was created by Glenn Gordon Caron. ABC gave him the opportunity based on his work on Remington Steele and Taxi. Of these three shows -- Moonlighting, Remington Steele and Taxi -- which would you prefer to binge-watch?  I never watched Remington Steele so I can't speak to that but I did love Moonlighting and Taxi.  I have watched Taxi reruns but have not seen Moonlighting reruns anywhere.  Need to go explore!!

8) In 1985, the year Moonlighting premiered, Coca Cola introduced The New Coke. It was not successful and disappeared from store shelves quickly. What's the most recent beverage you drank?  Just good old spring water.  I prefer water to most any beverage.

9) Random question  -- Each day, do you put more time into improving your mind or your appearance?  Not my appearance and unless hanging on the computer and watching TV improve my mind, I ain't doing that either.  Been there, done that and over it.  I guess if you count taking a shower every day and keeping my hair trimmed improving my appearance, I am doing more of that than improving my mind.  LOL

An update on my brother-in-law.  As of this time (Friday evening), Bruce is still hanging in there, breathing on his own. The doctor said this "process" can take another day or so though his breathing is shallow and slow.  Tammy (my sister) is there and his four kids have been there and can pop in as they can.  They had some good family time on Thursday with him. The hospital is being generous in allowing them to be there with Bruce. We have gone through this so many times with loved ones.  It is exhausting physically and mentally (as many of you also know). My heart breaks for Tammy and Bruce's kids and grandkids. Thank you for your prayers.  UPDATE:  They are sending Bruce home on hospice care tomorrow.  Tammy is okay with it and said she will be happy to have him at home.

Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

  1. Praying still for Tammy and Bruce and the family. Hospice care at home sounds like a better option than being at the hospital. Praying God will give comfort and peace in these last days. I never watched Moonlighting...sounds like it was a good show. I like private investigating, and sometimes think I would have made a good one! I like to solve mysteries. You and I have done a lot of similar jobs through the years, and both ended up with the same kind of job. I never stayed anywhere more than 6 years, however. We just moved around too much but it was always an adventure. I also prefer spring water (or our own water filtered to get the chlorine out), but do drink hot tea in the morning and iced tea for lunch. (Unsweet). I enjoyed your post. Always fun to come here. But I will keep praying for your family, and please keep us posted. (((hugs)))

  2. My heart goes out to Tammy and Bruce, Terri, but I'm so glad the hospital is allowing him to go home. I will continue to be in prayer for all of them. Please keep us updated as you can, my friend.
    Blessings!

  3. Praying for Tammy and Bruce and family. This is a very difficult time as I well know. Hospice is a good choice and for him to be home is much better than being in the hospital.

  6. Prayers for your family Terri. It just seems so many are hurting these days. We just got home after being with my mother. That always depresses me because I can see her losing ground each time I visit. As to Moonlighting, that is one show I never watched. And I love detective shows. I guess I was busy raising kids then and exhausted after supper.lol

  7. Terri, I liked that old show. My mom was so good at snooping things out, that we started calling her Columbo. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  9. Thank you for this update on Bruce! So glad his kids have stepped up and shown up. (Prayers continuing!) Loved your response to #4. Just wish I'd realized that years ago. #6 has me stumped ... but I love those sorts of posers that make me think.

  12. I liked Moonlighting too and we were also fans of Remington Steele.
I think it's so cool that you worked for a PI. You'll have to blog about that sometime. I don't know anyone who has used one.
Thanks for the Bruce update. Praying.

    1. I mentioned it in a blog awhile back but it isn't worthy of an entire blog. I typed up reports for a former FBI agent who did mostly insurance fraud cases. It was when we first moved to Florida. I met him through a neighbor and he found out I was former FBI and hired me to do some typing for him. It only lasted a few months until I got full time work. It was interesting.

  13. I feel joy every day, too, so I get it. Joy comes from God...it doesn't depend on any circumstances. :)
Praying for your sister and her family. We have been through that several times over, too. Hard, but often precious times those last few days or hours.
