Tuesday 4...

Thanks to Annie for this week's questions! You can join in HERE!

Trains and Planes and Boats

Welcome to Tuesday 4 in honor of the memory of Toni Taddeo!

Today.s subject was inspired by Elena Leno, Toni's daughter. Toni and I shared a love of many things including Agatha Christie, upstate NY and trains, trains, and more trains!

So.. Let's talk about Trains, Planes, and Boats this week. The Orient Express was a long-distance passenger train service created in 1883 by Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits. Fares range from £2,200 per person for a Venice to London journey, up to £40,000 for a Grand Suite on the Istanbul journey.

1. Do you enjoy riding on trains, planes or boats? Got a tale to tell us?  Not really any of those and no real tale to tell.  We hated the cruise we took and will never go on another, but recreation boats are fine.

  2. The Orient Express is super luxurious with 5-star accommodations including real bedrooms, cocktail bars, etc.    It stops along a route that includes, London, Paris, Berlin, Bucharest, Venice, Paris, Prague, and Istanbul.  Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express is set on the train.

You can choose your itinerary from the lists their site offers.  Of the places shown here, which cities interest you the most and why?  Berlin because my Gr-Gr-Grandfather was from there.  I've been to Venice and have no interest in the other cities.

3. Do you think you would enjoy a cruise?  Answered above. We hated it.  Where would you go?  Nowhere on a cruise ship.  Maybe a river cruise if we win the lottery.

4. Given the time and the choice and money being no object will you travel to Europe via plane or luxury liner?  First Class in a plane.

Dining on an Orient Express car.
As always Thank you so much for taking the time to join in.

Thanks for your visit!
Peace & hugs!  God bless!!

  1. Wow! Love those pictures of the Orient Express. Now that would be a train ride to take! I agree with you regarding cruises. I've never even been on one, and it just doesn't appeal to me at all. I wouldn't mind a really nice train ride, if it truly is a nice one. I'm a little leery of the Amtrak trips...not sure how comfortable they would be. We like to fly to our destination and then travel around there via rental car if necessary. Although a road trip would be fun if we could stay away from the cities and traffic. LOL. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts on these questions.

  2. I've never been on a cruise but always wanted to. My hubby likes old trains so I've been on historic train rides usually only a hour long but not a commuter train. I've flown when I was a kid but not as an adult. We usually just take longer vacations and drive to our destination.
    Have a great day!

  4. No cruise for me either. I love trains and I would prefer that method of transportation. I would love to take a train all across Canada, its on my bucket list, wink.

  5. We were upgraded to first class once on Delta for a trip from Atlanta to California and oh my goodness. It is great.

  6. What an ornate, luxurious train the Orient Express was! I have such fond memories of the various trips taken by train, both here and in the U.K. Much prefer trains over planes!
    Blessings, Terri!

    1. Our cruise was for four days on a Norwegian ship. The seas were rolling at 30-40 feet and I was seasick the entire first day. We chose early seating for dinner and the shows and were assigned seating with another couple whom we had nothing in common with and they had no interest in getting to know us or even be companionable. Our best day was when everyone else went over to the private island and we chose to stay behind where we had the pool to ourselves for the entire day and could eat in the "sports bar" as our leisure. We have never wanted to try again. We don't like crowds and we don't like being told where to be and when while on vacation. I know things have changed in 25 years but the ships are bigger and the crowds are bigger... not our thing.

  9. Terri, I've never before heard of anyone hating a cruise! Yikes. (Ditto what Stacy said!) I've some pretty strong opinions about the differing cruise companies. Years ago our travel agent compared to hotels -- there's the Red Roof Inns (eg Carnival) all the way up the line to the Ritz Carlton. The last one we took in 2007 had already begun to feel like theirs was a cattle-car mentality - herd as many of them in and back out again.

    1. See above. Yes to cattle-car and herding. Just not our thing.

  10. I have to admit, I really want to know why you disliked your one cruise so much. (maybe reply privately). We've been on one and I loved it, but Beloved got very sick and was hospitalized as soon as we got home, so the probability of us cruising again is extremely slim, and especially now with COVID making EVERYTHING so much more complicated.

  11. I do not think Id like a huge cruise.. I particularly do not like eating around trough like salad bars where everyone is picking over the food.. I much prefer a smaller river cruise!

  12. I like it all! Hopefully another adventure will happen in the future!

  13. Traveling first class in a plane seems like a great way to get to Europe. I am sure I would not like these new huge mega ships. No romance to them, too crowded it seems to me.

  14. A cruise has never interested me, but those river cruises look like fun, and they go to some wonderful places. I also think a train trip would be fun.
