Hi! I'm your host Bev Sykes of the blog "Funny the World". .
Welcome to Sunday Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The
Blog. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the
blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most
interesting and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves!
1. Where did your name come from? Not sure about my first name but my middle name, Lee, is from my maternal great-grandma.
2. Where were you born? Fayette County, Ohio
3. What was your house like, growing up? Full of love and lots of laughter.
4. What was your childhood bedroom like? I had my own room and in my teens was allowed to pick the paint color - lavender - and the spread, curtains, etc., were pink and purple. Dad cringed a bit when I picked lavender, but I got it anyway!
5. Did you travel as a child? Where? We vacationed in Canada 4-5 summers when I was growing up.
6. Write about your grandparents. My dad's folks were farmers and worked very hard. Granny was a great cook and made the best-fried chicken ever.
My mom's folks ... I had three wonderful grandpa's. Grandma was married three times. She was a very difficult woman and I will just leave it at that. This is her with my mom's dad, her first husband.
My step-grandma who married my mom's biological dad was a loving woman who loved us like we were her own. She lived into her 90s and never forgot a birthday or a holiday and opened her home to us whenever we were in Ohio. Loved her to the moon and back.
7. Who taught you how to drive? My dad. We didn't' have to take Driver's Ed back then.
8. When did you first leave home? When I went to business college after high school and then got married.
9. What did your parents do for work? Both of my folks worked for the Federal Government. Mom was with the Post Office and Dad was with the DOD/Airforce (civilian).
10. Who inspired you as you matured? My parents. Being the oldest of four, I didn't have older siblings to look up to. In my teens, I could say it was my two older cousins, Peggy and Pam.
11. What was the best part of your 20s? Moving to the Washington, DC, area. We followed my first husband's job there.
12. What is the best part of your 30s? Divorcing that first husband and meeting Joe.
13. Where is the most fascinating place you’ve visited? Venice, Italy.
14. What is your favorite family story? I have so many from vacations in Canada, to Christmases, to 4th of July neighborhood picnics in our back yard... those picnics were the best fun!!
15. What was your most memorable birthday? With my birthday just before Christmas, it is hard to outdo the big holiday, but when I was 16 I asked for a large "the works" pizza to be just for me, instead of a birthday cake. A large pizza with the works cost $3.75 back then. That was a lot of money! Pizza wasn't on every corner like it is today. This was a local pizza place (my town of 1,100 people) and I got it! I had to beg the family to help me eat it when I couldn't eat any more! Dad laughingly never let me live it down!
18. What was your favorite food as a child? I was not a picky eater but we always fought over the last helping of broccoli with cheese sauce!! Yes... broccoli. We always had a huge garden and we loved veggies! Especially with cheese sauce!!
Thanks for your visit!
Peace & hugs!! God bless!!

I love visiting with you and learning more about your life and this post is no exception. I can tell you had a happy childhood and good parents who taught you well. Sure hope you were able to sleep last night and the pain is easing up. Prayers continue.
ReplyDeleteIf everyone could be so fortunate... sounds like a great childhood..
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great childhood. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful home, smiles. Sounds like you had a wonderful childhood. Keeping you in prayer, Terri. smiles
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had an idyllic childhood, Terri. I can't complain about mine, either, and although I only got to see my grandparents once a year, those are the best memories of all.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, and continue to heal!
I love reading about you and especially how much you loved your grandma. Glad you had a nice childhood.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story of the birthday pizza! I sure enjoyed your answers -- particularly learning more about your grandparents. (I think your maternal g'ma looks like a little vixen!) My parents both worked for the government, too. Still remember them telling me to "Get a good job with the government and they'll always take care of you." LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis is fun to read! You had a wonderful childhood (as I did). How blessed we were! We used to vacation in Canada as well....generally Ontario, though one year, we went to Quebec. yeah, getting pizza was something special back in the day. So was going to McDonalds. Now, those places are on every corner, and we do them so often that there is nothing special about them.
ReplyDeleteYay, for the gift of Joe in your life!
I hope you are feeling better every day.
Love,
Patti
You were lucky! We had the large garden and I loved most of them, but Mom never, ever put cheese sauce on anything that I can recall. It might have made a few of the lesser favorites a little more enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your family. I'm glad your step-grandma made up for the difficult one. Everyone should have a grandmother who is their champion.
I love broccoli with cheese! You have such nice memories, that is so good! It is so weird, I had really good memories as a child and then I grew up and realized some of my family was nuts. My Uncle wrote my mother a letter saying she was dead to him. I am glad you do not have to deal with family like that. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

This was fun to read. It sounds like a wonderful childhood, which doesn't surprise me because of the way you have always talked about your family.
ReplyDeleteMy parents built a new house when I was 13 and I got my own bedroom. I got to choose the color, and I also chose lavender!
So many coincidences between us! Has to be a connection somewhere!! :)
DeleteMy husband and I worked for the Postal Service too. How cool that you got to go to Venice. I love broccoli and we eat it several times a week. I can't eat pizza anymore. It has been fun reading everyone's stories!
ReplyDeleteYou were blessed with a wonderful childhood and have got to where you are now with a real level head on your shoulders, obviously learning valuable life lessons thru relationships with a couple of difficult people. I admire that.
