Hodgepodge
Questions-Volume 370
1. The US of A celebrated Memorial Day this past Monday. Does your family have any military ties? Yes. If so, tell us about them. My dad was Army; Joe was Army; Joe's two brothers were Marines; our Nephew is active Marines. My ancestry takes me back to the Revolution and the Civil War...
2. Cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, potato chips, mac and cheese, macaroni salad...your favorite BBQ side? All of those thank you very much! How many of these do you make from scratch vs. buying from the deli? I make the beans and the Mac & Cheese but usually buy the others. I also make deviled eggs! Can't forget those!
3. I enjoyed asking this question back when the Hodgepodge was a regular thing...Lake Superior State University posts a list each year of words they think should be banished from the Queen's English for misuse, overuse, and/or general uselessness. The 2020 list includes-quid pro quo, artisanal, curated, influencer, literally, I mean, living my best life, mouthful (word used by foodies to describe texture of food in their mouth), chirp (basically an insult, you can read more on the website), jelly (short for jealous), totes (short for totally), vibe, and OK Boomer (internet response from millennial to older generation).
Of the words/phrases listed which would you most like to see 'banned'? You could ban them all except 'curated' because I come from the museum world and that word is very important for museums. I would not miss the others and rarely if ever use any of them.
4. I'm sure next year's list will be filled with words springing out of this weird season we're all in currently. What word or phrase associated with the Corona would you be happy to hear less often? Covid, of course! If I never hear it or see it again... and I hope it NEVER represents "Certificate of Vaccination IDentification". Let's not forget 'self-isolation'. Yuck.
5. The month of May wraps up in just a few days. Bid her adieu in ten words or less. Please let next May be more like last year's May!
6. Insert your own random thought here. I am a week away from "officially" being allowed to leave the house with my knee. Not supposed to go anywhere until the stitches come out. BUT... I am getting my hair trimmed on Friday. I told my physical therapist yesterday that I would be leaving the house for a while on Friday. He had me go outside and go up and down the stairs three times. I did just fine and am using a cane now, instead of the walker!! Yay! I am still having trouble getting the bend where it needs to be but I will get there!
Thanks for your visit!
Peace & hugs! God bless!!

I'm glad to hear your therapy is going well. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteLove devil eggs! Glad your therapy is moving right along!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're getting better with each passing day, Terri, and that's great news! I like deviled eggs, too. :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
WOWOWOW The Revolutionary War!!!! WOWOW. ((and cool))
ReplyDeleteI am glad your therapy is going well.
How did I forget deviled eggs. I love them! I'm glad you're knee is healing and you can get out a little. I had my hair done yesterday and it felt fabulous! I was her first appt of the day and the shop had been closed for two days prior so it felt fine. Took my temperature and hand sanitized upon entry, we both wore masks and she wore gloves (as she always does for color) and it was just the two of us. I feel like a new woman!
ReplyDeleteHave someone carry you in if it means getting your hair done :) LOL
ReplyDeleteTake the girl out of the museum but you cant take the museum out of the girl ;)
Curated ... of course! I just got goosebumps at your COVID acronym. I've never made deviled eggs, but need to break down and, like the folks at Nike proclaim, "Just DO it."
ReplyDeleteLOVE your determination to get out and about!
Congratulations on getting out with the knee and getting your hair trimmed! That's a win-win for sure. Do take care and watch every step. Very good answers and yes, deviled eggs need to be on the list. I'm sick and tired of hearing any of the words relating to this "awful thing."
ReplyDeleteBy all means, make it a priority to get the hair done and the knee will follow!!! (smile)
ReplyDeleteI can't get to the comment box for your post on the black-and-white polka dot dress but I just wanted to say I'd go with the tiny red purse #1 because the ensemble needs more color. The belt is very cute!!!
It will post again tomorrow, Barb. I'm doing it on Thursdays now, but messed up the posting date. Check tomorrow!! :)
DeleteI'm so happy for you! Your knee is improving and you get a haircut!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to hear the word covid again either. I've had enough!
I want a deviled egg now. :)
So with you on Covid!! Glad you are this far out on your knee surgery and sounds as though you have done great. Blessings abundant!
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely cannot forget the deviled eggs if we ever dine together! They are my favorite...and I just can't find a recipe that I like to make them myself. Sigh. You are doing great with that knee! Keep up the good work and you will be dancing in no time!
ReplyDeleteThis was fun! I enjoyed reading that list of overused words. I would like to add "gifted" in the way it now seems to take the place of "gave." Why??? What is wrong with give and gave? And what is the difference between giving something and gifting it?? Of the current words I'm most sick of, "social distancing" has to be at the top.
