I'll Always Love My Mama
Saturday 9: I'll Always Love My Mama (1973)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) This week's featured artists, The Intruders, sing that they don't know how their mama made it through the week without ever getting a good night's sleep. How did you sleep last night? Really good, actually.
2) The Intruders performed this song on Soul Train, a syndicated show that ran for more than 3 decades. What show do you try never to miss? I did watch Soul Train faithfully back in the day! Now, I don't want to miss any of the Chicagos... Fire, PD, and Med. There are others too.
3) On Soul Train, the Intruders wore solid black shirts beneath their brightly colored jackets. Black, white, khaki, navy, and gray are considered neutral colors because they go with everything. If we were to check your closet, which would we find you wear most often: black, white, khaki, navy, or gray? Black.
4) Especially for Mother's Day: Access Hollywood named Carol Brady of The Brady Bunch TV's #1 mom. Who is your favorite TV mom? Back in the day, Donna Reed. More recently... how about Sophia Petrillo!
5) Mother Winters always gave Sam peppermint tea to calm her stomach. Do you have any tried-and-true home remedies to share? Not really.
6) Sam's mother always tips 15% in restaurants. Sam has worked in foodservice and is more judgmental, tipping between 10% and 25%, depending on the quality of the service. What's your tipping policy? I'm right there with Sam. Are you more like Sam or her mother? Sam. How do you handle tips for carryout or delivery during this Covid-19 crisis? We have been tipping our usual 20%.
7) When the tip of her shoelace becomes frayed, Sam's mother snips off the end and then paints the tip with clear nail polish. Good as new! Sam thinks that's crazy because you can just buy new laces for less than $2. Are you more frugal like her mother or spendthrift like daughter? I would buy new shoelaces, so call me a spendthrift.
8) Mother Winters loves how french vanilla smells and burns her Yankee Candles all year around. Do you use scented candles or air fresheners? No. They give me headaches. I might burn a pine-scented candle at Christmas and I have put water on the stove with cinnamon in it.
9) Sam is celebrating Mother's Day with her mother's favorite, Hershey Bars. Would you prefer classic milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or chocolate with almonds? Chocolate with almonds.
Thanks for your visit today! Happy Saturday!
Peace & hugs!!! God bless!!

You and I are a lot alike. It seems I have more black in my clothes...mostly black slacks that I can wear with any color top. That was my usual attire when working, with a black jacket when needed. I did like Donna Reed too, although I haven't thought of her in a long time. Of course, I loved Lucy, even though motherhood wasn't her theme on the old original I Love Lucy shows. I never really liked her newer shows later. But somehow, Lucy became synonymous with my mother in my mind when I was little. I also cannot abide strong candle scents. They give me headaches and nausea too. But vanilla would be one that isn't too bad, and like you, I like a woodsy pine scent at Christmas, but only for a little while and then I have to put it out. when it comes to chocolate, dark chocolate is the only one I can tolerate, and that just a little. Sad isn't it? Have a blessed and wonderful weekend and Mother's Day! Praying for you!
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of black clothes too. As for chocolate I love any kind.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I burn pine scented candles at Christmas, too. Actually, I burn Yankee's "mistletoe." It has a lighter, fresher pine smell and doesn't bother my sinuses as some of the other pines do. You should give it a try. Have a good weekend and blessed Mothers' Day!
ReplyDeletePine scent gives me headaches. I hope you have a beautiful day friend. smiles.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I think Donna Reed was a good roll model for mothers (then and now).
ReplyDeleteAnd also like you, I can't handle a scented candle for very long before it brings on a headache.
Enjoy your Mother's Day weekend!
With both of us having experience in the restaurant business ages ago, Danny and I are always generous tippers. And he has been especially generous in tipping the sweet people at Instacart who deliver our groceries to our door. Since we aren't eating out, I guess that's a perfect substitute. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day, Terri!
I wear mostly black; I love candles and have them all over the house; always tip 15-20%; I am addicted to the CPD, Fire and Med shows too. I wish you a good day
ReplyDeleteI enjoy being a generous tipper, if the service is good. I was a waitress once so I have a soft spot for those who take care of customers in a restaurant. Deborah and I have become friends with the waitress who takes care of us at our breakfast outings. And how we are missing her smiling face right now. I used to burn candles all the time and I still enjoy them at Christmas but now I use diffusers.
ReplyDeleteDitto Wednesday's 'Chicago' trilogy! Ah, Sophia is a great choice … I so miss Golden Girls. Like you, I'm a 20%-er … even when service isn't that great, I try and consider the server might have something awful going on in his/her personal life.
ReplyDeleteCertain scents give me a headache too...usually the floral ones...they are strong. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend!

I would never have thought of Sophia. She was so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI wear lots of black too. I also tip 20%. But unlike you, I love candles and burn them frequently.
ReplyDeleteThey don't like me. I get horrid headaches from the strong scents.
