Thanks to Crazy Sam for this week's Saturday 9. You can join in HERE!
Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey
Saturday 9: Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey (1971)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) The lyrics tell us Paul believes it's going to rain. How's the weather where you are today? Raining, with thunder!
2) Paul sings that he is sorry because he hasn't "done a bloody thing all day." What do you hope to accomplish this weekend? Ha! Not a bloody thing!! Well, laundry!
3) He also references butter pie, which is made primarily with potatoes (with onions and, of course, butter). That dish is not popular on this side of the Atlantic. Last time you had potatoes, how were they prepared (baked, mashed, hash browned, french fried ...)? French fried.
4) Linda McCartney is credited as a co-writer and performer on this recording. Paul and Linda were partners in real life, too; married 29 years, they raised four children together. They often said they tried never to spend more than a few hours apart. Do you enjoy a lot of togetherness, or do you value your personal time? Has your experience with Covid19 and quarantine changed how you feel about this? Joe and I get along fine but we both enjoy some personal space now and then. The current state of affairs hasn't made a difference since I have been retired for two years. We are used to being together 24/7 and are comfortable with it.
5) Paul and Linda came from very different backgrounds. His family was lower middle class, lived in Liverpool's public housing, and received government aid. She grew up in affluent Scarsdale, the daughter of a wealthy theatrical attorney. Do you think it's more important for a couple to share a common background, or to share common interests? Common interests but also common beliefs.
6) Paul is known for his work ethic. At age 78, he's still making music and performing live. What's your favorite Paul McCartney song? I was not a Beatles fan but preferred John Lennon's songs to Paul's. Nothing comes to mind, actually.
7) In 1971, when this song was a hit, Bobby Fischer was the world's most famous and highest-rated chess player. Do you play chess? I play at it. I don't know the lingo but do play Joe now and then (and usually win).
8) England's Princess Anne turned 21 in 1971. The occasion was commemorated by a formal portrait, taken by celebrated fashion photographer Norman Parkinson. Who took the most recent photo of you? How about yesterday, when Joe snapped a photo of me getting my hair cut by Teena!! She has on a full-face vinyl mask that you can't see very well, but it is pretty great for this kind of work. Attaches to her glasses.

9) Random question: Do you find it more satisfying to work with your hands or your head? My hands, but even crafting takes a little brain power...
Thanks for your visit!!
Peace & hugs! God bless!!

Interesting information about Paul and Linda McCartney. I loved the Beatles when they first came out, but then they got weird and I lost interest. I actually liked George the best at the time. But Paul was the best looking. LOL. I love the picture of you getting your hair cut! I know that must feel good! I haven't had mine cut yet. Debating on how much I want to have cut off. I'm kind of liking it a little bit longer, and when I get it cut I will probably need a new perm, so I am not in a hurry. I trim the top as needed. Thanks for a lovely post today!
ReplyDeleteI never thought about it, but now that you mention it...I like Lennon's songs better, too. I'll see what my stylist looks like soon. She is beginning to make calls and set up appointments in anticipation of opening next Friday. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, Terri!
(((wail))) a haircut??? Thanks for rubbing it, Terri. (((laughing)))
ReplyDeleteWe just entered Phase 2. The strict rules might cause a lot of folks not to open; face guards (like what Tenna is wearing) with face masks need to be worn, gloves, social distancing, customers must wear masks at all times and the businesses will have to take your name and number for contact tracing. AND employees must be tested every 2 weeks! I IM'ed the lady who cuts my hair, told her I can not wear a mask, we shall see where it goes.
I don't think hair salons are allowed to open here yet. I spend a lot of time with my hubby and we get along fine too which I am so glad. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteSo jealous of your hair cut, Terri - lol! Seriously, I'm glad you were able to get to the salon for some pampering. You deserve it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Lucky you with the haircut.....life is good... :)
ReplyDeleteGetting a hair cut does wonders, doesn't it? I had mine cut a couple weeks ago and we both wore a mask, which was weird. When the Beatles first came out, I liked the songs like I Wanna Hold Your Hand, etc., but then they changed and I wasn't a Beatles fan either.
ReplyDeleteI only put a mask on if they won't let me in without it. If I am sick, I will wear or mask or just stay home... I know about the 14-day thing, but I am just anti-mask unless it is absolutely necessary. I wash my hands and sanitize all the time and don't touch my face until I do...
DeleteOh how nice your were able to get out and get a haircut. It makes me feel so much better to have a fresh haircut. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

That's a great mask Teena's modeling! And you look so happy.
ReplyDeleteI'm still a bit obsessive about wearing my mask on account of Tom's COPD. More like it, I'm just too lazy to bother fixing my hair and blame it on the mask. LOL!
I enjoyed the Lennon/McCartney songs better as well. How cool that face mask is! Things are still closed down in NJ.
ReplyDeleteOh it must have been great getting a haircut! So jealous lol
ReplyDeleteSo you did not have to wear a mask while getting your hair cut? I will be having my first hair appointment on Thursday, and I will be required to wear one. Will certainly be a different experience, but I am so excited to have her cut my hair I don't even care!
ReplyDeleteWe've had thunder and lightning all day today! And I haven't done one single thing. I've spent a lot of hours on the couch today but I don't get to do this very often, even with Covid-19. It's been good!
