Saturday 9 Remembers Doris Day...

Thanks to Crazy Sam for today's questions!
You can join in HERE!

Secret Love

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Secret Love (1953)

Unfamiliar with this week's song. Hear it here.

Rest in peace, Doris Day (1922-2019)

1) In this song, Doris admits she's spoken to the stars, "the way dreamers often do." Do you often daydream?  No, I don't daydream often. Now and then, perhaps, but most of my daydreaming days are behind me.

2) What's the last secret you kept? (It doesn't have to be romantic.)  I can't tell!!

3) While "Secret Love" was one of Miss Day's best-selling records, and the song won an Oscar, she did not perform it at the Academy Awards Ceremony. She said she was just too nervous to sing it live before an international television audience and an auditorium full of entertainment professionals. When did you last suffer an attack of nerves?  Any time I have to speak before a crowd (more than 2!) I get a quivery voice, weak knees, and nothing comes out the way it should.

4) Doris' well-publicized attack of Oscar stage fright was unexpected because she began her career as a band singer, performing before live audiences every night. But she reportedly did develop more phobias over the years, including a fear of flying. Is there anything that scares you now, as an adult, that didn't frighten you as a child?  Now I know how fragile life is. Death doesn't frighten me but losing those I love and the pain that follows does scare me a bit.

5) Doris Day made 39 movies between 1948 and 1968. She said one of her favorite things about filmmaking was working with costume designers on her wardrobe. Do you enjoy shopping for clothes? I do and I don't. I'm not a shopper but I do enjoy getting something new to wear.

6) Doris confessed that when she had to lose weight for a role, she gave up ice cream. If we checked your freezer, would we find any ice cream?  You will ALWAYS find ice cream in our freezer.  It is Joe's second favorite food group, just behind donuts.

7) In 1985 she hosted a cable show called Doris Day's Best Friends. She used the show as a platform to promote pet adoptions and animal welfare. Most of the guests were  celebrity friends who reportedly donated their salaries for appearing on the show to Doris' pet foundation. Did you more recently ask a friend for a favor, or perform a favor for a friend?  I took dinner next door last night, for Bob and Sharon. Sharon just had surgery.

8) For more than 20 years, Doris co-owned the Cypress Inn in Carmel, CA. The Inn expects to continue on without her and maintain the pet-friendly policies she introduced. Have you ever traveled with your dog or cat?  Not on a vacation, but we brought Vinny back from Georgia and years ago we brought Cookie back from Ohio. Traveling with cats is not as easy as traveling with dogs.

9) Random question: What's the last thing you complained about?  I have lately been constantly complaining about my bad, very painful knee.  Just ask Joe. Bless his heart!

Thanks for your visit!! Peace & hugs! God bless!

  1. I never travel with my dog because it is always me who pays for the tickets; never him. Same for the hotel rooms. And he wants room service to bring him bones at midnight. Hey ... that's the title of my next book, "Bones At Midnight". Better start writing.

    God bless.

  2. I always enjoyed Doris Day movies...they were clean and fun. I have never traveled with an animal but I know plenty of folks that do. Have a nice weekend.

  4. I'm not fond of public speaking, either, but at least it doesn't paralyze me these days. Your answer to #4 is very similar to mine. I just narrowed it down to the grandkids. Enjoyed your answers as always!

  5. I so loved Doris Day. My favorite movie is Pillow Talk along with many others. I don't care for clothes shopping. I like to wear cute things back when I worked, but I have never enjoyed shopping. I like to go in a place that has the outfit all set up for you and I will buy that one. I can stand in front of anyone under the age of 18 all day, but my tongue becomes the biggest wad of cotton ever in front of adults.

  6. I do not remember ever seeing any Doris Day movies. She certainly lived to a ripe old age so maybe we should all get ice cream and eat it regularly.:)

    Constantly!

  8. Good answers, as always, Terri, but it does surprise me that you dislike speaking in front of more than two! It is something I have been working on overcoming for the past few years as I get those same symptoms … even when I'm totally prepared. I'm sorry about your knee. Joe and Jay both seem to have a good understanding of what's good! Haha!

  9. Knee pain is awful. You will be in my prayers. I hope it goes away and never returns. Public speaking was easy for me, but I am nervous and shy in one on one conversations.

  10. #2? Exactly!!!
If I HAVE to speak before more than 1 or 2 people, my throat gets all constrict-ey and sounds like I'm about to burst into tears. Weird, I know. Even as a child, I've always been afraid of losing someone I love.

  11. I liked Doris Day, as well as Tim Conway, who passed away the day after DD. It's a sad week for the entertainment industry. Both of these people gave us clean entertainment with a positive attitude.

  12. As a child, I was not afraid of heights whatsoever; today, is a different story. And I think you have every right to complain about your hurting knees, Terri. Just hope you can get the problem righted soon.
    Blessings!
