Saturday 9 with Hall & Oates...

Every Time You Go Away

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here are today's questions

Saturday 9: Every Time You Go Away (1985)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song is about separation. Who is the last person you said goodbye (or maybe just "so long") to?  Al and Theresa popped in last night to visit so I guess it would be them but I don't really say "good-bye", even on the phone.

2) This week's featured artist, Paul Young, was a gifted athlete during his school days and briefly played professional football (aka soccer). Sam enjoys playing tennis, though her serve doesn't give Serena Williams anything to worry about. What's something you enjoy doing, even if you don't excel?  I enjoy singing but I don't do it well anymore. At church I mostly lip sync. LOL

3) Mr. Young and his wife Stacy were married for 31 years, until her death in 2018. What do you think is the key to a happy marriage?  In two weeks Joe and I will have 34 years behind us. Trust and respect. You must trust and respect each other, and above all else, communicate!!  Love is a given, by the way.  But you must not only LOVE each other but also LIKE each other too.

4) Paul Young's performance of this hit song was one of the highlights of the July 1985 Live Aid Concert. This international benefit raised more than $100 million to alleviate hunger in Ethiopia. Tell us about a charity you support.  Our church, the American Cancer Society, and Options for Women.

5) This song was written by Daryl Hall, of Hall and Oates. What's your favorite Hall and Oates song?  I love Hall & Oates and had two or three of their albums back in the day.  This song is always a favorite, sung by them (not the featured artist here).

6) In 1985, when this song was popular, the New Coke was unsuccessfully introduced. What's the last beverage you drank?  As I am writing this on Friday night, it was a glass of milk with a few cookies. I will have spring water soon, however.

7) In 1985, the New York Stock Exchange had to close because of Hurricane Gloria. Has a hurricane shared your name? (Find a list of recent/upcoming storm names here.)  It looks like my name is up in 2021 though it is my "real" name, Teresa, not my nickname, Terri.

8) 1985 was the year that the Titanic wreckage was discovered. There have been at least 11 movies and TV shows about the fatal voyage. Have you seen any of them?  I watched the very popular 1997 version with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.  Has anyone NOT seen that one?

9) Random question: Would you rather own and run a coffee shop or a shoe store? Why?  I would own a shoe store and would stock women's size 12W so I would never have trouble finding shoes that fit, ever again! Ha! Now there is a dream!

Don't forget to visit Crazy Sam HERE and
join in on this week's Saturday 9!

Thanks for your visit!  Peace & hugs!  God bless!

  2. Good morning, Terri! I enjoyed your answers, but I think you got ahead of yourself...easy to do I know. When I'm working a stretch I have to stop and think what day it is. Anyway, today is Friday.

  3. You celebrate 34 years this year and we celebrate 43...you are right. Respect as well as love is very important. I think seeing yourselves as a team and not an individual player is also important. I am thankful for a good marriage.

  4. All of your answers are good. May I borrow the one about marriage? It's true.

  8. I went to a new shoe store over my Spring Break when I got some new tennis shoes and they had many wide shoes. I was super excited. I really need to go back. Maybe I can get my mom to go with me, she loves shoes way more than I do. She also has better cuter smaller feet. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend!

  9. Happy Anniversary!!! Yes, communication is key. Jus' wish I'd realized that 40 years ago! This is a great song, but my favorite is 'Sara Smile.' That's a neat storm link. I wasn't really expecting to see my name! So interesting to learn they're only named as Tropical Storms

  10. Me, again. Did you know (that) Paris Hilton wears a size 11? (I just had to double-check.) She even created her own shoe line to accommodate folks with larger-than-normal shoe sizes.
