The Wednesday Medley on 11/07/18

It's all about - What, what, what???

What is your claim to fame?  Gosh, I can't claim fame of any kind.  I am probably famous among friends for being a cat lady.  The neighbors think I am a good cook... but food always tastes better when someone else does the cooking.

What is something you like to do the old-fashioned way?  I like a good old-fashioned Thanksgiving celebration with turkey and all the traditional trimmings, and if I could have 20 family members here, it would be perfect!!

What did you think you would grow out of but haven’t?  I've grown out of all my clothes, so it's not that.  I haven't grown out of my love for macaroni and cheese, which most likely explains why I have grown out of my clothes!

What is the dumbest thing you’ve done that actually turned out pretty well?  Buying a house here and moving to Florida back in 1989 without jobs or any way to support ourselves was pretty dumb, but we are so happy we took the risk, and have been happy here for 29 years!

If you had to change your name, what would you change it to?  My dad wanted to name me Paula when I was born, after his favorite Uncle Paul. My mom nixed it, saying Paul should be reserved for his son (and my brother was named Paul, three years later).  I would have liked Paula, I think.  I have also always liked the name Miranda.

What is something random you can tell us about this week?  We had a lazy day yesterday, which felt good. We ran a couple of errands and I worked on some bookkeeping but we didn't have to be anywhere.  Today, we are off to the farm (Joe's client).   Thursday is Bible study.  We are still trying to process the death of our step-grandson.  I doubt we will ever understand why he chose to end his life.

I am so glad the elections are over and that's all I'll say about politics.

Thanks for checking in today!!  If you joined in, please link up below to let others know to visit you, too!!

Peace & hugs!!  God bless!!

  1. Good questions Terri, thanks for hosting us. I'm sooo sorry about your step Grandson, this seems to be the end to many lives today. So very sad. So glad everything came together when you made the move to Florida. Yes, thankfully, we all lived through another election. Now, let's move on!

  2. I think suicide is one of the most difficult things to ever put to rest. Prayers for your family. I too am glad the election is over. And is there anyone who doesn't like macaroni and cheese? I especially love homemade, but my kids hated it and wanted Kraft with its brilliant orange cheese powder. Shudder. Thanks for the questions again today, Terri.

  4. I'm glad Florida worked out so well for you. We moved there in '85 under pretty much the same circumstances, but it just wasn't a good fit for us at the time. We only lasted about 2 years. Now, however, I think I would enjoy it more. Tim doesn't agree so it's more cold winters for us.
I'm sorry about your step-grandson. That's is so tough for families to process and understand. I pray the family can find peace and healing.

  6. My mother wanted to call me Ellen but Daddy did not like it. I would have definitely preferred it to Arlene.

  7. Soooo glad the elections are over!
Miranda's pretty, yes … but I like Terri. In the 60's I thought it was cool when girls changed the spelling of their names to have an 'i' at the end. (Little one could do with Myra. LOL.)

I wonder if this Thanksgiving won't be more sober than most; hopefully, sweet memories will warm you.

    1. My mom spelled Terri with an I right from the start. I have never been Terry. My "real" name is Teresa (no H). Don't like it at all!!

  9. We retired (the 1st time) and moved to a city where our son and his family lived only to have them move away a year later. We thought at the time that might have been a very dumb thing to do on our part, but it has proven to have been the best thing we could have done. God's timing.

  10. Suicide is so devastating for those left behind. So sorry for your step-grandson's death. You and I were on the same page for answer #2 except for the macaroni and cheese. Lol. Thanks for coming up with the questions, Terri.

  12. Your reply regarding your clothes and Macaroni and Cheese was cute.

Dumbest thing we ever did may have been our move to Florida as well, since we've been hit with some unexpected things. But we are very hopeful our next move will straighten things out better to everybody's liking. If it doesn't, too bad. We've only got one more big move in us and this is going to be it (Lord willing!).

  14. I am so with you, about the end of the elections. I cannot recall a more divisive election ever. And it seems each contest was amazingly close!

  16. Terri, I cannot fathom losing a friend or family member this way. May the Lord give you the peace to be able to deal with this tragic circumstance. It sounds like you and I love our traditional Thanksgivings...I am the baby out of 8 kids and back in the day we had well over 20 all gathered eating a very traditional meal...some of my greatest memories! Thanks so much for hosting the medley each week!

  20. So sorry about your step-grandson. These things are so hard to understand. The only way I can process them is to just rest in God's sovereignty. He allowed it for some reason.

I love mac'n'cheese too, and I enjoyed your thought of an old-fashioned Thanksgiving with loads of guests. We did that for many years and I am really not nostalgic for it yet. Maybe some day I will be!
